Yeah. That's what's important here.

What's the problem, Muse? The man got heavily loaded to give those high energy performances. He was pretty open about it. I'm going to miss him, because I feel like he still had much more to give, but I'm going to be honest about who I knew him as. I got my Voltaire via Hunter Thompson, but I liked the one about owing the truth to the dead.

Robin Williams was one of God's prototypes. It's a fucking shame he's gone

I came across a Robin Williams tribute that moved me to tears. It sums up his life beautifully.

Dual diagnosis can be almost impossible to treat. The fact that most 12 step programs view prescription mood altering drugs as taboo doesn't help. But addiction in mood disordered people is extremely common, it's actually self medication but with the wrong medications.

The classic bell jar is the easiest to treat. You feel as though it is imposed upon you, and it responds best to the medications.

As someone who has had a couple of attempts over my lifetime, I can assure you that it isn't a 'cry for help'. I simply couldn't see or think of anything else. It wasn't a 'way out' it was the only direction I could see. And it took three days of obsessing about closing the garage door with the car running before I even identified that I was suicidal and needed help. If you can't identify that you have a problem, you sure as hell aren't going to get it treated.

But I'm one of the lucky ones in that the last time I had a bout of suicidal ideation I happened to have a doctor's appointment already set up. I refused to go to the psych hospital as she wanted, and as I should have, but she had a starter pack of Zoloft in the office and had me take one while her receptionist was contacting the best psychiatrist she knew. Mine lifted inside of 24 hours. It was a blessed experience. People who go from drug to drug for six months on end when they can't deal with the effort of taking a shower? It's unimaginable.

I am one of them. Celebrating 14 years sober on the 18th of this month in fact.

At my lowest point, I was this person. It took everything that I had inside of me not to end it all. Mr. Williams' suicide hit very close to home for me for a lot of reasons. I've lived with this illness all of my life and it is exhausting. I never know when my anxiety or panic attacks will happen, nor do I know when my depression is going to kick in. I have been in treatment for a long time and I am able to manage my symptoms pretty well. My slut has been so understanding of this illness and I am very lucky to have her in my life.

Robin made me laugh when showering/eating/socializing were the last things on my list of "to do". He made me cry when I needed a catharsis (what dreams may come, anyone?). My heart hurts that HE was hurting more than that. My heart breaks for his family.

Manko -apparently you have NO idea what truly diagnosed clinical depression can do to a person (or you are simply so self-centered that you don't care). I'm sorry you get sad when you break a nail. I hope you seek therapy soon, so that you may be able to at least fake empathy.

I loved what you had to say, GreedyTop. He gave so much to us throughout his career. It is very sad to me as well that someone who brought that much happiness, laughter, and joy to others felt so devastatingly sad himself.

I can only hope that the loss of Robin Williams will spark frank and honest discussions about suicide and depression. We have so many military folks coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan who end their lives because of all the trauma they have suffered. I think the statistic is something like 23 veterans per day are committing suicide. If anything good can come from this, it's my hope that there is a massive increase in empathy and understanding for the suffering others endure.

When one is so impressed with whatever gems spew forth from their word hole, they can't be bothered with ridiculous details like the huge night and day difference between brain chemistry altering clinical depression and temporary sadness or the "woe-is-me Im so EMO" sadness shit. Perhaps if Robin had just pulled himself up by his damned bootstraps like she did, he wouldn't have had the audacity to die

A song by Traffic, "Dear Mr Fantasy" has a line that I feel appropriate.

"You are the one who can make us all laugh.................In doing that you break out in tears"

"[T]he pain of severe depression is quite unimaginable to those who have not suffered it, and it kills in many instances beause its anguish can no longer be borne, The prevention of suicides will continue to be hindered until there is a general awareness of the nature of this pain. Through the healing process of time--and through medical interventions or hospitalization in many cases--most people survive depression, which may be its only blessing; but to the tragic legion who are compelled to destroy themselves there should be no more reproof attached than to the victims of terminal cancer."
