Marini you were praising a poster that does... so I assumed you were agreeing with him... you posted... good post...when he does not know the area in question and is not using good sense when talking about the make up of Ferguson's government. Many of whom were voted for by African Americans... but never let facts get in the way of Cloud Boy's rants.

This would be your opinion. We would gladly look at any validation you might be willing to provide.

He has no idea the progress the City has made in the last 15 years...

Perhaps you could enlighten us?

how revitalized the business district is... what a good place it is to live.

Riots are not usually a prime indicator of resident satisfation with the quality of life.

How personal income has increased because of the economic growth even in these hard times.

Perhaps some actual numbers might help bolster this rather shallow rhetoric?

They will get over this tragedy and the reforms will make them stronger for it even if it can never bring back this young man.

Well they have been waiting since about 1865...how much longer do you think it will take?

It seems that they've identified the officer in the shooting as Darren Wilson. It seems that things were a bit quieter last night.

quote:

The initial refusal of Chief Jackson to reveal the officer’s name had galvanized demonstrators and prompted civil rights groups to go to court to force its release. Chief Jackson had said that his unwillingness to disclose the name had been based on safety concerns after death threats against the officer and his family were posted on social media.

On Thursday, Gov. Jay Nixon ordered the Missouri Highway Patrol to take control of security and crowd control in Ferguson, replacing the St. Louis County Police Department, which has been criticized for its heavy-handed tactics against protesters. Wednesday night’s protests ended with the police firing tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd.

The difference in tactics and tone was apparent almost immediately here. On Thursday night, the armored vehicles and police cars were gone, and the atmosphere was celebratory. A street barricaded on previous nights was filled with slow-moving cars blasting their horns. There were few signs of police officers, let alone a forceful response.

Have I ever said that looting was okay?

I was having lunch with a friend yesterday, and she said that riots and looting simply arm the opponents of an issue with ammunition. So, instead of talking about the underlying issues, you have a repeated mantra of "looting is wrong."

Not a single poster here on the entire thread has said that "looting is right," but when you try to focus back on the underlying issues, some posters retort (over and over again) "looting is wrong."

This same group has not said, "Shooting an unarmed black teenager bound for college is wrong, seriously wrong. The police mishandled the situation. I can understand why people are upset."

Regarding the looting: 40 people were arrested and probably charged with criminal violations. Not a single poster here has said those individuals should not have been arrested or that they were falsely accused.

Looting / rioting here is not the underlying issue: it is a symptom. A racist police department that seems at war with the local population, that's the issue.

"The name of the officer who killed Michael Brown has not been released. The police department has not said whether eyewitnesses who have been talking to the media have been interviewed by police, too. And while it's not the key issue in the Brown case, the heavy militarization of the police forces, a trend that had been covered by the libertarian journalist Radley Balko and the Pulitzer winner Matt Apuzzo, has broken out as a controversy."

It's kind of damning that the only person who could get a F2F interview with the Police Chief was Sean Hannity.....

The Police Chief looks like he's engaged in a coverup and white-wash of the shooting.

Turns out that Officer Darren Wilson was responding to reports of a convenience store robbery when he encountered Michael Brown, who is visible in surveillance footage from the convenience store.

What I heard about that was that it happened in the back seat of the cruiser.

I think Butch has already said that Ferguson doesn't have cameras installed. That's unfortunate because such a video could have been the "silencer" on the "smoking gun" or, it could have been the smoking gun.

Either way, we'd have had more evidence instead of just assumptions and a reason to procure that 60" TV I've been eyeing but haven't been able to afford to pay for.

Screen captures still RULE! Ya feel me?

Raiikun -> RE: Rioting is the answer (8/15/2014 8:52:11 AM)

Also, those trying to make a racist narrative of the incident...the police officer that shot Michael Brown is black. (So I've just heard, haven't checked for confirmation myself).

That's weird. The first mention I heard about the race of the officer was on the Yahell/ABC feed and they said he was white.

Well, if he's black, I guess that removes the "racist" plank from the rioting platform. No?

Why wasn't this information released right away? What's the rationale for withholding it?

altoonamaster -> RE: Rioting is the answer (8/15/2014 9:22:47 AM)

so vincentML your saying this is all made up

cloudboy -> RE: Rioting is the answer (8/15/2014 9:32:53 AM)

Well, if you don't want rioting -- you release as much information as possible right away to explain what the police did. Also, you invite the parents into the police station to tell them what happened to their son, and to tell them how you plan to investigate the incident. You also call in and interview all the relevant witnesses.

As it looks, the police withheld information and the dressed up in riot gear armed with tear gas.

I understand that you havent any proof of this or you would have posted it. So you are content to run your mouth with what you wish were true.

Let me disabuse you of your ignorance then. I thought I was pretty clear that I was in favor of the boston tea party, pretty sure that was a riot with some looting or looting with a little riot depending on whom you read. I have pointed out that the american, chinese, cuban, french and russian revolutions were riots that kinda got a lot of popular support. Did the american revolutionaries loot royal arsenals customs houses(where the money was) and stores(where the booze was) to bolster ther revolution? Yeah it is pretty well recorded...since we wound up agreeing to pay for all the shit we stole with the treaty of paris.
