ORIGINAL: FelineRanger I don't know what the validity of ASMR is as a diagnosable condition. But the Preston & Steve morning show on Philadelphia's WMMR had a major segment on it. Whoa, that was hilarious. Not what GoddessManko and I were describing; shiftyw's references to trance and meditation, being non-sexual in nature, sound more like it. However, there may be more than just a few forms of this which people experience in different ways. What's misleading are the words "head orgasm","headgasm" and "hairgasm", as well as "asmrgasm" itself. Meridian is a euphemism for "orgasm." Here's what I gleaned. -- Preston says the sound of others typing on a computer keyboard (but not himself) makes him drool and that it's "exciting." He claims it is soothing, not sexual, to hear random or improvisational sounds, frequency & semi-rhythmic gait of ambient noise. Nature or environmental sounds not so much. He compares it to meditation...trance...zoning out...relaxing & hypnotic...like almost getting high. NOT a whispering, lispy female voice on ASMR videos for him personally; there are *roleplay* videos of getting a haircut, massaging the scalp while shampooing & conditioning. These are his triggers: -- Cutting paper w/scissors -- Cutting hair, getting hair cut -- Wrapping presents, the crinkling of paper -- Going into a paper bag (crinkling noise) -- Sound of high heels clicking -- Rummaging through a cosmetic bag filled w/make-up -- Squeaky magic marker on board -- Basketball shoes squeaking across floor -- Skates on ice Others bring up the olfactory equivalent of freshly cut grass, or that the opposite (turn-off) would be someone crunching on potato chips while eating. a) Male caller states response as relaxing, not sexual. b) Female caller said she chooses a keyboard by testing it first for the clicking sounds it makes while she's typing. c) Male caller likes to hear keyboard clicking at the auto parts store while he makes purchase, also clicking of women's heels d) Mention of airport ticket clicking noise, loving the sound of haircutting scissors e) Others bring up rhythmic music, fire crackling in fireplace, babbling brook, which are not well-received suggestions. f) Male caller is into the visuals, not auditory, as in the motion & tapping of pencils as being relaxing and soothing, distracted him in class. g) Male caller says it's not sexual, but his attention was caught by a girl in school who would whisper when reading books. Although the majority of ASMRers claim to not get sexually aroused, I wouldn't be surprised if some do; for example, I can see where the clicking of high heels can easily get fetishized. It wouldn't surprise me if these sensory stimuli can turn into sensual arousal responses and/or reaching a state of erotic headspace with certain individuals. I wouldn't classify mine as ASMR, but music can get me turned on, so can the sound of some men's voices (particularly if they have a sexy-sounding accent). But, then again, this may be something else based on verbal-aural arousal factors.
