I would ask domes why they prefer ropes than handcuffs. I think handcuffs are more sexy, or it's all abot traditions..

Status: offline 		Try put pressure on hand cuffs for awhile. Permanent nerve damage is really easy. As are deep bone bruises. Cops do this crap to perps they dislike all the time. Most of the images of people hanging from hand cuffs and other metal wrist or ankle encirclements are porn fantasies or do permanent damage in minutes.
Ropes can be damaging but with practice and care the restraints can be very inescapable but tolerated for hours. Midori showed a favorite at a bondage demo years ago when visiting. It's in many of her books and simple to learn. A number(4) of loose coils around two adjacent limbs to be secured to each other, ends tied. Then a second line is wound around the loose but even coils between the limbs till a tight wrap extends from limb to limb. The tightness is easy to adjust, both line tieoffs have to be kept inaccessible to the bound person's fingers and teeth.

So, on the one hand handcuffs can be worn safely for fairly long periods of time, on the other try hanging by your wrists from ropes, that's not going to go well for more than a few minutes either.

To the OP it's a kink thing, some people get hot and bothered over the barnyard smell of rope, others find shiny of steel more attractive. Though if you want someone to "hang" from a wrist restraint I'd advise leather cuffs specifically made for that purpose over either plus some experience.

To look at. If I want to DO anything, I find them a bit too uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. Which is too bad, because I love the shiny!

Leather cuffs are the most comfortable, in my experience. Of course, it will depend some on the cuff. Rope... Rope, as I understand it, is about the experience more than the utility. Rope doesn't turn me on at all. I do love rope, though. It gets me in a meditative state. And it appeals to my crafty nature.

Status: offline 		ok ok! i could agree with you all if we are talking about "hard bdsm" like.. hanging people and stuff like that, but I was talking about more erotic part of bdsm ad least from my points of view handcuffs are much more sexier than some ropes, well i never tryed leather ones, but my experience isnt alos to high

Status: offline 		I use handcuffs, but I do not do suspension bondage because of the risks.

I make the handcuffs more tolerable by first putting on elastic wrist bands that can be found in most sporting goods stores. Then I can get the cuffs snug without too much discomfort.

It's very much a personal preference thing. My guy prefers using leather or a pair of cuffs he fashioned out of two chihuahua-sized dog collars with a carabiner in the middle to connect the two on me. Added bonus for him is that I cannot pinch the clips together to release the dog collar style cuffs and the leather ones have 3 sets of buckles and straps to try to release, so I never have enough time to work them before he catches me. The only time I got out of one was the time it wasn't tightened enough and my wrist just slipped out.

Rope itself cuts off circulation. With metal handcuffs, I end up with bruising because I've got bony wrists that don't respond well to metal bumping against.

Status: offline 		i agree(second time today) that for rought fun.. metl handcuffs could be not so usefull because of how much pain they could give us, i still dont like ropes but i start opening my eyes for leather handcuffs - wondering why i didnt think of them earlier...

Always.

I use the metal cuffs for decoration mostly and never put strain on them. I use the leather cuffs that I have for positions that have stress placed on the restraints.

My injury happened from simply making them too tight. Felt the "pop". Of course, that happened with the dumbass maneuver of the person I was with forgetting where he placed the keys in my place. No really, let me lead you to where they are...and reach my hands from behind my back to point them out to you....

My fault for letting an idiot cuff me up....but just wanted to put it out there.

No worries, it is extremely good information to be put out there.

As an aside, I never secure handcuffs unless the keys are in my pocket. That is a hard and fast rule I imposed on myself.

Status: offline 		Even for sex, in bed, I just don't find metal handcuffs comfortable. If you're going to use them, get the double locking ones so they don't accidentally tighten during activity.

Status: offline 		I prefer rope over handcuffs because I find rope more flexible, softer, and much more sexy. I thought once about getting a set of pink handcuffs and shackles but realized that it would be much cooler in my opinion to just dye some of my rope pink. The clink of the handcuffs can be sexy for sure, but the softness and the way the rope hugs the person's skin, I find that much more sexy and erotic. Plus there's no key to lose. If something goes awry, I simply use my shears to cut it off. I don't do suspensions so that's not an issue for me either. If I want to vary things, I'll use the leather cuffs I have. My subs and I find them to be softer and more comfortable than cold hard steel and, if I'm wanting the man to feel discomfort, it will be in other places than his wrists and ankles. Sometimes I also use both the leather cuffs and rope just to mix it up a bit.

tis a well known fact, to those that know it well, I wear sandals....thus no tying is required-us Scottish people are ignorant savages when it comes to malarkey like that.
