It looks like I'm the exception, rather than the rule. I think a small tattoo in a private location that is normally covered by a bikini and only shared with an S.O. is sexy as hell on a woman. Any more than that, to me, seems more like graffiti rather than art. It hides the true beauty of a woman. Just my opinion.

P.S. I'm not a big fan of tats on anyone...male or female.

I'm with igor on this. I don't have any....and at my age now I can't imagine getting one. But at the very most if I ever did get one, it would be something very small and discreet that couldn't be seen by anyone except my SO. And even then it would be something totally sentimental....a name or an image to remind me of something or someone very special. I know I shouldn't feel this way....but I think they have a specific appropriate time and place. If someone ever came in to my office for a job interview covered in tattoos, it would influence my opinion of them. I mean....how many political candidates who have a lot of visible tattoos ever get elected? (Not that not having a tattoo makes them a good candidate....maybe we should be electing people with tats.

Another example is if you were an actor or an actress. Having poorly placed tattoos could kill your chances of ever getting certain roles and really limit your career.

To quote Jimmy Buffett.....

"Permanent Reminder of a Temporary Feeling"

She was no marine back from the Philippines
She was their pride and joy, their incarnation.
Her parents viewed the chief
With shock and disbelief
Looking for some other explanation.

The Indian, her back was poised for an attack.
She said 'a tattoo is a badge of validation'.
But the truth of the matter is far more revealing.
It's a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.

Permanent reminder of a temporary feeling
Amnesic episodes that never go away.
It's no complex memento, it's no subtle revealing.
Just a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.

That's what it would be for me....a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling".

well as you can tell i have a few bits of ink- the moomin, some script on my arm (a proverb) and and a very small stylised phoenix (a nod to my given name)... all of which have meanings for me, contemplating some form of mariners cross considering i think my current job may well be a lifelong career and is tied to the sea...
No issues with women having tattoos but i have a huuuuge issue with the "tramp stamp" kinda stuff on lower back of those strange tribal bands and symbols (probably followed by idiots who go something chineese or japanese tattooed and dont know its gibberish or in some cases funny or even offensive, mum can read it and has pointed out some gems to me!), these are usually picked off the wall of the studio and totally meaningless to the person. For me they have a " i catalogue order my uniqueness" vibe. People who want ink really should get something custom, suited to the space and shape of their body by a skilled artist, it costs more, but there is no comparison between them!
As for tats and work, i think it depends on whats tasteful, most employers and clients i have encountered dont have an issue with them but i can really understand people taking aversion to someone with blatant unconcealed swear words, KKK/gang/nazi/racial symbols and so on so in that aspect i think its more a case of being reasonably tasteful with what you have

I should have read this before I made my own post.....THIS is what I am talking about.

Mine are all custom, cost more than I care to admit, and I will never regret them, because I got them for ME.

There's another reason I probably won't ever get one.....I don't have the freaking MONEY!!!

But.....they can also have a practical use.....

That is a gorgeous tattoo! If I was going to get one (and that's never gonna happen! lol) I would get one like that! I love the details.

About a year ago, there was a patient in our ER who had an entire suit of armor tattooed on the upper half of his body. It was incredibly detailed and authentic, down to every single ring of chain maille. He even had a large scar on his upper arm that they encorporated into the design, like a spear had pearced the chain maille, all ragged and broken around the visible scar. I couldn't stop admiring it, while trying to maintain my professionality, lol.

A girl I work with has several nice tattoos. She recently found a video where they showed the tattoo "gun" in action in extremely slow motion. All the little needles going in and out of the skin, the skin puckering and even bouncing a little.....it was really squicky! My friend even squealed a little and said she may never get another one after watching that! lol You might be able to YouTube it, if you dare!

I've seen that exact vid. To me, it was FASCINATNG, not squicky at all. I'm always amazed that they can SEE anything while they are working. Between the ink everywhere, and the blood...I'm amazed.

Nice ink, Blondie. I'm ambivalent on tats-if they're well-done and tasteful, they look great on either gender. If they're not, well...they're not good. I've got a couple, and two more planned as soon as I have some spare cash.

Do you know what group of people are the most vocal about their terror and hatred of needles when they come into a hospital or clinic to get their blood drawn? Yup, the tattooed! So we ask them how they could stand getting all those tattoos and they always say,"But that's different!" lol

You must have seen a different video with the same concept. The one we were watching didn't have any blood or ink, just showed the skin being punctured over and over a thousand times a minute, lol. I think it was made to just show how the gun worked and what it did to the skin, just for demo, not actually tattooing.

No. The video was clean. The blood and ink I was referring to was mine....

And. I'm fine with needles from a doctor as well. I'm not at all squeamish. Then again, I gave birth both times, with no pharmaceutical intervention, and I actually enjoyed it.
