Why hasn't the US Government invested in America's infrastructure? Instead of looking like a world leader, we are beginning to slide towards 2nd-3rd world status.

See US infrastructure grades below:

http://www.infrastructurereportcard.org/a/#p/grade-sheet/gpa

What changes should our Federal Government make to correct these problems?

In my home state of Maryland: 55% of all major roads are in "poor" or "mediocre" quality. 368 bridges are structurally insufficient.

It's broke.

If it were possible, I'd like to see the government lower federal taxes so states could raise their taxes in order to pay for infrastructure repairs themselves.

It's about the same here in Michigan. Some bridges are so bad I'd be afraid to drive over them. Makes me wonder about the condition of the Mackinac Bridge Authority funding.

Sh##.....this summer Delaware even made the national news when a major bridge of I-495 around Wilmington was discovered to be seriously damaged. The really scary part is that a regular inspector didn't discover the problem, some private sector engineer was meeting some clients in the area and he could see that the southbound side of the bridge was more than a foot lower than the northbound side. It was later discovered that some building contractor dumped about 50,000 TONS of dirt next to the bridge and the weight of all that dirt caused the land under the bridge to sink and the bridge supports started to sink and lean with it.

We even rated a visit from Obama because of it and got emergency federal funding.

Fortunately in Delaware....if you've lived here long enough and don't have your head up your ass, you know how to get around northern Delaware without going near either of the interstate highways.

The failed war on poverty is part of the problem. We are paying too many people too much money to not work. Beside that, our politicians have invented far too many other ways to blow our money down bottomless shit holes, and we are now far beyond broke.

I can't say about Idaho, since I don't live in Third World Countries, but here in the US of A we know the reason is because the Radicals love to spend money on blowing things up, but fixing things like roads, schools, bridges, etc - that's 'Commoonism'. Solution: run the Rs out, and the problem will be well on its way to being solved.

Keep punishing poor people for being poor... history shows how fucking successful that route has been.

If you want to talk about where the waste is then let's discuss the defense spending that is out of control, and the fucking wars and shit we have been fighting for the last decade or more. Let's talk about corporate welfare and the waste of taxpayers money. Let's talk about the Pentagon never being audited as mandated by Federal law because no one there wants to get into that clusterfuck and find out where there is a ton of waste. But please, let's stop programs for the poor and downtrodden because that is fucking wasteful.

They are not punishing them for being poor, as nature intended. The politicians are rewarding them for being poor, while collecting their votes in return for destroying them in a mutually destructive cycle

"War on poverty" - look it up.

Your diatribe is getting ragged and threadbare.

The premise of the thread is bullshit - a talking point from an Obamabot hack (and shitbag) who will most likely scream "racist" the moment his ploy is exposed. Of course, it only exposes his own Nazi-like hatred of anyone who doesn't agree with him.

This is a pre-emptive strike. An attempt to set the discussions and distractions when the Republicans assume control of both chambers in Congress. If Democrat shitbags like the OP cared about the problem, instead of caring about having a problem to cast blame over, they would have addressed it in the '09 stimulus, instead of squandering that borrowed money on short-term, half-ass freeway overlay projects that do nothing but kick the repair can down the road.

You've got a bad analogy.

The problem with feeding bears is two part.

1. Feeding bears causes them to loose their fear of humans.

2. Human food is better, getting bears used to this higher standard of living causes them to work to maintain that standard of living. In a bears case that means attacking people to get their food. So unless food stamps = muggers your bear argument is a pile of consense.

Because if you don't answer the shit, at least once in a while, people might think it's an accepted norm.

If you are in LA, yes you certainly do, DNAV. You just happen to live on the right side of town, and in a state of denial about what lies to the south and east of you. I'll be happy to drop you off for a walking tour sometime.

Human food is easier, and animals gravitate toward the easiest form of nutrition

There used to be a stigma attached to taking handouts, now its the norm in many households

Nature intended for things like pain and hunger to be motivating factors in behavior

In fact I live in Washington State, where we keep a wary eye on Idaho at all times. I've lived in St Loser, in the Great State of Misery - Ferguson is my home town, in fact - and I've lived in So Cal for longer than I care to think about, so, yes, I know all about the dark side of American poverty. I can honestly say my exposure to the hardship and injustice made a more decent human being out of me. What about you?
