Oooh yes. Some very basic things in our political world are coming apart at the seams. Scotland is pulling away and is going to get so many more powers that it will look silly that it'll begin to look like it's all but outside of the UK. An almighty battle over our membership of the EU is looming, too. The two-party system is also falling apart: the duopoly held by Labour and the Conservatives for a century is threadbare. The lib Dems have incurred so many enemies as the junior partner in the Coalition that they can no longer count on being the leading 'alternative party'. The political class as a whole is rock bottom in terms of approval and respect amongst the electorate. The next election will have me hooked on the TV as the results come in. None of the pundits wants to predict the results. Fun stuff!

Thanks for the update, I will also be interested in the election results.

Ron...

The next election is probably the one the main parties are dreading. Labour won the Scottish heartland from the Tories, only to sling it away and allow the SNP to become the main party. UKIP are rising quickly in England due to the Tory/Liberal coalition not getting a grip on things. There are way too many disgruntled voters in the UK and the Liberals will get the lowest amount of votes they have had for years.

I suspect there could be large scale attempts by Labour and the Tories to cut a deal with the remaining parties. At present nothing is cut and dried but the old two system party is well and truly on the back foot. The problem is that all the recent Elections have ended with the same type of policies from those in power. I think the first party to actually take note of the electorate might well hold the upper hand next May. Presently it is too close to call but with all party plicies in such a mess I am guessing the EU, the NHS and the Economy come May, will be the big deciding factor. It is a folly to think that UKIP only attracts racist votes, the elderly often vote in the biggest numbers and they are not happy with the unbridled immigration and diktats from the EU which affect UK policy. UKIP appeals to them now but needs clear workable policies in its Election Manifesto.

Two of the three leaders of the currrent main parties will have to resign come May, who they are depends on the result. My own view is we will have another hung Parliament who will then need to cut deals with the minor parties to form a Government. I dont think the end result will be good for British politics.

That seems a ways off. Did UK elections used to take place on a shorter schedule? Six weeks or so? Or am I imagining that?

But at what cost???

There's your problem.
Much the same as our private hospitals run by insurance companies.
They have plenty of beds.... if you wanna pay for them!!

They still do as our Election campaigns usually last four weeks. What happens most times is the possible date for an Election is leaked by those in power. Our PM can call an Election any time he likes but it must be within five years. This means the next Election HAS to take place by next May.

From here to there, while there is no offical campaigning, there will be much briefing of the press and dropping hins about party Manifestos. One example would be George Osbourne, current Chancellor of the Exchequer, announcing he will pump vast sums of money into the NHS. He is due to make a Statement soon on next years budget but no doubt he wants the good news leaked first. It was better in the old days, in my opinion, when any official statement was announced in Parliament first and not leaked to the media.

Hope this helps, any more questions just shout.

It was a special case.
A teenager (not an adult) that was sectioned under the mental health act, not a normal patient.
They needed specialist care, not an ordinary hospital bed.

And like the USA, our mental health care isn't up to par, sadly.

It's not brainwash at all.

True, it's not free. But, it's already paid for by taxes.
So, at the point of delivery, no money needs to change hands.
There is no billing afterwards either.
And, there are no insurance policies to look at to see if you are covered.
With our system, you are covered regardless of ability to pay or your condition.
If you like.... it's pre-paid with no exclusions, no co-pay, no deductibles.

ETA: if you are a pensioner, under 18, or on benefits, it actually IS free.
And I really mean FREE, as in you pay not one red cent because you aren't paying premiums or taxes.
Your treatment is paid for from the public purse, not your bank balance or credit card.

There is universal access, which sometimes leads to pressure on the system....... If it wasnt open to all it wouldnt be so fucking busy.

Why the fuck is this so hard for some of you to understand ?

Because they can't see beyond private companies and profits and extreme individualism.

With all the explanations I've given to Desi, all he sees is companies losing out and it'll be a meltdown.
Well.... that's what single-payer systems are all about.
There is very little in the way of private insurance companies and they don't figure in it at all.
And that profit doesn't matter either; there is virtually no profit to be made or had.
That's what they can't comprehend.
