Our allies will be extremely hesitant to share intel with us in the future as the Democrats are also throwing many of them under the bus in this

Purely for political reasons

No one shares intel, everyone spies. This includes Russia and China. China has 2000 front corporations here in the US just to spy on the US. Also the UN Security Council's intel on the Iraq war called it "garbage". Additionally Snowden told China where all our spies are and we have no idea where theirs are, funny enough. (Clearly he's not a spy).[8|]

If this is news to you I'm sad to hear because this has been going on since HOOVER.

Why didn't the drone program bother you under Bush? Oh yeah...another administration from a different political party.

And when did waterboarding become "loud music"?

We get that, for you, everything is about politics. But despite your "ridicule as if argument" response, Michael laid out clearly the non-partisan issues. It's not about parties -- it's about people, consequences, long term thinking vs. hot-headed reaction. The real world is more complicated than Rs and Ds.

"You, you, you"

Not about you, Ego Boy.

Address the questions and points instead of whining, and there will be *gasp* discussion.

Grow up ...

And once again, I'll ask you to address the questions/points raised rather than yourself, and you'll have a discussion.

Tom, I sincerely hope you find something in life that gives you real recognition instead of having to so crudely construct it.

cloudboy -> RE: BREAKING NEWS (12/11/2014 7:27:45 AM)

That's good, encourage equivocation from someone (DS) who is decidedly upset by the "IRS Scandal" wherein no organization was denied 501(c) status but merely issued requests for more information. This made him feel "targeted" and "violated," but when the US tortures innocent foreigners (26) in black sites around the globe -- he's willing to consider that "ok."

It's a straight violation of the Geneva Convention. Christ, the Republicans are upset this could "trigger more attacks against Americans." For fucks sake, that horse is so far out the BARN DOOR it's not even funny.

This is a devastating black mark against the USA on so many levels.

Last thing, it's clear that DS didn't even read up on what was in the report -- further engaging in bubble thinking (without facts) about what's happening in the world.

Musicmystery -> RE: BREAKING NEWS (12/11/2014 7:30:10 AM)

Bubble thinking? That's funny coming from someone whose head is in the clouds most of the time from reading only far-left, liberal news stories. You post a story from a rag called Americans Against the Tea Party and treat it as if it is entirely factual.

From what I've seen, DS uses actual news sources.

That's pretty much the story our government sold us, but 11 years later they still haven't offered any proof. They're just playing to our emotions to cloud the issue. It's been really difficult for me to accept the fact that as a nation we still need to debate whether or not torture is bad. We executed Japanese soldiers for doing the same thing under the same pretense.

"R. John Pritchard, a historian and lawyer who is a top scholar on the trials, said the Japanese felt the ends justified the means. "The rapid and effective collection of intelligence then, as now, was seen as vital to a successful struggle, and in addition, those who were engaged in torture often felt that whatever pain and anguish was suffered by the victims of torture was nothing less than the just deserts of the victims or people close to them."
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2007/dec/18/john-mccain/history-supports-mccains-stance-on-waterboarding/

Hmmm...and how many World Wars did Japan win or lose?

MM: I'm sorry, it sounded to me like you were soft-pedaling torture with DS instead of out right condemning it.

CD: That's a false accusation.

My main news sources are: The New York Times, The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books. I don't link to wing-nut sites as you claim.

DS is on record as claiming "Obama is a socialist." That is afactual bubble thinking. He refused all sort of correction on the matter. Regarding the torture report, his posting reflects no reading on the subject. For some reason, he can't bring himself to condemn the Torture conducted by the USA on foreign nationals, 26 of whom were entirely innocent.

Your doubts are correct, hot4. No one could have been more careful than Edward Snowden NOT to divulge operatives' identities, locations, assignments. His entire thrust was to OUTLINE the magnitude and scope of US unconstitutional intrusion into, and amassing, the content of all private communications of all citizens, including world dignitaries. Content as well as connected persons. Retroactive as well as prospective. Without any meaningful oversite or warning.

Just so everyone understands, this is done digitally and electronically, by government arm twisting the major communication suppliers. It is suffocating in scope. Has nothing to do with spies or operatives who could never achieve anything close.

It was Bush's controling VicePresident, Dick Chaney who manipulated to divulge IDENTITIES of our operatives (ex Valerie Perinne case) near the turn of the century. . . . Incidentally, China's more a US benefactor these days.

Every civil libertarian (others too) should see the documentary Citizen Four (on Ed Snowden filmed real time during the disclosures) now running in the independent film circuit. Own it, if it's ever allowed to move to DVD and is not confiscated.

You are right in that I did confuse you...And I apologize... with your buddy, Joether who posted this on another thread:

***While the rest of the world was focus on this event (read: journalists), FOX 'news' was covering something of 'equally' great importance: Horse Shit. Or more specifically, the 'shoveling of horse shit'. That's right, FOX 'news', mouth piece of the Republican/Tea Party's 24/7/365 propaganda machine, led their top story with Shoveling Horse Shit. So while the rest of the world was reading and understanding the real things that happened during the Bush era; FOX 'news', whom was a HUGE SUPPORTER of the Bush era, was redirecting its viewers to something silly, stupid, and most of all....petty...

So if your wondering why your conservative friends, family, and associates, whom only watch FOX 'news' for their information on the world, was so clueless.... ***

However, of the sources you cited, could you point out the conservative one you use for balance? I too read the N.Y. Times and other liberal sources when I am sourcing. What about you?

The questions are still these:

Wow. Seems we anti-establishment tree-hugging hippie types had a point when from Nixon on when we distrusted covert government operations.

Question -- you were all for this when the Bush administration went for it. What changed for you? When did you decide it was wrong?

Or is the point that it's not wrong, and that you're happy the practice is continuing?

He also notified them of where our spies were within Hong Kong and mainland China. (Clearly not a commie spy). [8|]
