When it's happened to me they are usually people who have tried to convince me to do things I'm not interested in. When they finally realise it's not going to work they delete my reply Unread as if it's a way of them coming out on top.

Were I in your shoes, my opinion would be, "Their loss."
Personally I'd rather find out right off the bat than waste time and effort on something that cannot and will never be.
They failed the litmus test right outta the gate. Terrific.

If you think it's their way of 'coming out on top', then that would be your personal interpretation of it.
Also, they may have hovered and read your response - you won't have a clue if they did that or not.

When I get those unwanted replies and delete, I'm thinking "they aren't worth my time and effort", not 'getting one over' the sender.
Most of us just shrug it off and ignore it.
If you are going to get your panties in a knot over it, that's your problem, nobody elses.
I think you need to grow a thicker skin.

theprlncesslucy -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 7:48:48 AM)

I've already said I am not bothered by it, I find it amusing, keep up! I know they have read it, as it's the end of the conversation.

Then why pose the question??

You obviously think they have 'one up on you' otherwise you wouldn't have posted such an asinine OP.
And you also stated in that OP "...even when they have obviously read the preview" of which you have no way of knowing whether they did or didn't.

theprlncesslucy -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 8:01:36 AM)

My original post was if anyone else found it amusing. They read the preview & didn't like the answer, so delete unread as a way of getting the last word.

I have to admit, I just can't get your POV on this. If I delete unread it has nothing to do with getting the last word, that strikes me as really weird. I delete unread because I've less than zero interest. There is no one- upmanship, it is not a type of retort. It is simply a deletion.

theprlncesslucy -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 8:06:08 AM)

That's true in your case, but some do use it as a way of getting the last word.

You have NO WAY of knowing if they read the preview or not.
You are just making stupid assumptions.
They could have deleted it without looking - you just don't know that.

As Camille said, there is no one-upmanship whatsoever.
I also don't get your PoV either.
And no, I don't find it amusing or even interesting.

Just how is it that you know complete strangers are using the delete button in the manner you say they are? IMO you are projecting.

theprlncesslucy -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 8:11:51 AM)

I know if I have had a reasonably long conversation with someone and it suddenly stops... and my last message is deleted unread, that they have previewed it and deleted it.

Actually you are guessing. Assuming.

True, but unless you are the reincarnation of the Amazing Kreskin, I think what FD is saying is that your presumption in this matter says nothing at all about the deleter but is highly informative re you.

I caught this too, but was gonna let it pass. since it's been called out, I'll second his knee jerk reaction

Ladytisha -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 8:14:55 AM)

So does someone deleting your messenge bother you or you feel like they did it to somehow get back at you? As one poster said a deleted message just means no more of your time is being wasted take it as a lesson learned so you know how to weed out the fakes from the ones that are truly seeking. You really are getting great advice maybe you see it as hostile but consider what's being said.

camille65 -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 8:16:37 AM)

I have been a tad hostile, and for that I apologize. It isn't like me.

*blames the weather which is making her pain level increase and making her bitchy attitude increase*

theprlncesslucy -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 8:18:17 AM)

I've already said twice it doesn't bother me, I find it amusing they would think it bothered me.

I was curious if anyone else had noticed this, but it seems it's only me. Maybe I'm the only one who looks in the sent message section

We all look at the Sent Message section.
But, unlike you, we don't think the sender thinks it bothers us like you do.
You are making senseless guesses and projections that apparently nobody else does.
Why would that be??
Because most of us aren't sooo far up our own asses that we need to think that way.

Grow the fuck up!!

Ladytisha -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 8:23:56 AM)

You are not the only one but the point myself and others are trying to make is shit happens. You are not the first person this has happen to, I have had it happen and so have others. You can either put your BIG GURL panties on and look at it as a missed opportunity for that person or you can throw a tantrum for a deleted message. So what cha gonna do, shit or get off the pot?

camille65 -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 8:23:59 AM)

I don't think I've ever looked at the sent mail folder lol, if someone doesn't reply... they don't reply. It isn't something I really think about.

theprlncesslucy -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 8:33:04 AM)

The only tantrums I can see here are from other people [;)] You've got your big gurl panties wound up about my light hearted question, grow up. [;)]

NookieNotes -> RE: Deleted Unread (12/27/2014 9:57:33 AM)

Wait... why would I care if someone deletes a message read or unread?

If they disappear and don't write back, excellent. No more time wasted.

It boggles the mind why anyone would want to make up stories about that for themselves.
