An old thread was resurrected...whether or not this should be a paid site. They have advertisers here. Money. I don't know if the site charges to allow people to direct people to their sites in the "for sale" forum. I personally think if a Pro Dom/sub maintains a profile that indicates that the relationships sought are mainly financial...Money for services...then I think those folks should pay a fee of some sort. For the rest of us, My answer would be no. Mod 3, you lovely creature...this should take care of those "necros".

I agree with you CD - what a surprise. Like you said the site pulls in money from advertising so it's not like the owners are doing it for free. I also don't know whether those people who advertise their services in the Professional Services section pay to advertise but if they don't they should. After all they are posting in order to make money I don't see anything wrong in their paying to do so.

Personally I'd rather see the fins and pros barred from posting anywhere but in the professional services section, whether or not they pay fees. I have no interest in the views of people who do bdsm for a living. As for the rest of us, I suspect if we were charged a fee to be on this site, it would become even less populated than it already is.

There are plenty of places, paid and not, that don't allow the pros. They crash it anyway, making profiles after profiles, because it pays to do so.

Well the fact remains that the owner has done a remarkable job keeping the site free for its members. I have an easy solution to the financial conundrum. Charge the men. [sm=stickineye.gif] To be honest, this site is pretty populated. Going over to FL I realize the online kink community there is pretty small and I think most people seeking a relationship would be turned off by the commercialism of FL. It seems like there are cliques and packs but they are huge ones and they usually are involved in the sex industry in some way, eliminate those people and eh... So you have a cluster of people who are involved in event organizing, modelling (if one more photographer emails me to be a subject...), poly sessions, parties, promoting their material etc. For those people heavily involved in the kink community they are going to frequent both CS and FL for networking sake, why wouldn't they? Do I think less people log in? Not really, there are new kinksters like both my friends on here under 30. Do I think more people lurk in the shadows? Yes. This site not only gives a pathway for those who do choose to profit from the lifestyle or work the sex industry but also those who want to make connections outside of that which FL does not really accommodate because it's just not as user friendly as CS for relationship seekers.

I don't like FetLife very much although I'm there as frooty. I hate the black background to begin with, I don't like the um.. the closed feeling. Here you can jump in anywhere, I don't feel like I can do that there. And yeah I can't navigate that place at all. It doesn't feel friendly to me.

Firstly they don't even give real search options aside from geography and then you don't know if the person logged in last night or 5 million years ago. Chances are most of the quality people you do know from fet are from none other than CS.
