Agreed, I know some good people who are Muslims, the precepts of Islam (the way of submission) is not, at it's heart extremist. Unfortunately Mohammed included to many things which excuse (note I did not say advocates) extremism.

So, given that the Koran was written in the 7th century, a very different time, you're suggesting it should be read as a "living" document, not a strict fundamentalist/constructivist approach.

Good idea. What other documents written a few centuries ago should be recognized as from an older, different time?

Being in france I suppose you meant the Front national and not the tea party... anyway while the religious motivation, to say the least is probable, what usually concerns more is whether those two persons are part of a large terroristic organization or it is a plain hate crime, it makes no difference for the 12 dead persons but it is in terms of what countermeasures take.
