Freedom of religion and freedom of speech is often attempted to be denied here by many posters and for many reasons. Mostly hypocritically.
I doubt any regular poster here on the left or the right, atheist or christian or muslim or jew will not decry this horrible shitty cowardly murder of the people at Charlie Hebdo (cops included)
But that hasnt stopped some of our posters claiming otherwise.
quelle surprise.

You are confusing freedom of religion, with freedom from criticism

Bama you will not find me among those that think just because millions of Muslims are peaceful this absolves them of all responsibility of these terrorists acts. I personally think Islam in general by its very nature and teachings breeds terrorism more so then other religions. But i will not blame the vast majority of Muslims for the specific acts of terrorists.

But what I believe, and will take the heat for, is my belief that peaceful Muslims do not do enough to stamp out radicals in their religion. Radicalism cannot exist on the scale it has manifested itself today without help, indifference and denial of responsibility by the leaders of the religion.

Butch

Agreed, I know some good people who are Muslims, the precepts of Islam (the way of submission) is not, at it's heart extremist. Unfortunately Mohammed included to many things which excuse (note I did not say advocates) extremism.

So, given that the Koran was written in the 7th century, a very different time, you're suggesting it should be read as a "living" document, not a strict fundamentalist/constructivist approach.

Good idea. What other documents written a few centuries ago should be recognized as from an older, different time?

Is this documented, it would seem to faintly imply that possibly the attackers might have some inclination toward Islamic extremism.

Of course a fair minded person would wait for proof that this wasn't the tea party trying to frame Jihadists.

Being in france I suppose you meant the Front national and not the tea party... anyway while the religious motivation, to say the least is probable, what usually concerns more is whether those two persons are part of a large terroristic organization or it is a plain hate crime, it makes no difference for the 12 dead persons but it is in terms of what countermeasures take.

Where have I ever suggested that anyone or anything should be free from criticism

And why is it that you suffer from the delusion that I am a Christian

hot4bondage -> RE: 12 dead in Paris (1/7/2015 12:47:38 PM)

Thanks, Aibo. Yes, it is incredibly important to know what's at stake here. If you can't live a more or less peaceful life as a political cartoonist in Paris, something has gone horribly wrong.

There were more than two, experts say they appear likely to be a trained commando unit.
No leftist blame everything on the tea party your sarcasm detector may be malfunctioning.

MariaB -> RE: 12 dead in Paris (1/7/2015 1:28:03 PM)

Political cartoonists that work for satirical magazines like this know that they put themselves in the firing line because they draw to offend. In a free world though, we have the right to offend and the right to be offended. What we don't have is the right to kill the people who have offended us.

Anyone working within the Charlie Hebdo offices were fully aware of the risks.

Where have I ever suggested that anyone or anything should be free from criticism
where did I state that you did.
the only part that pertains to you is the being able to give criticism and not being able to take it

And why is it that you suffer from the delusion that I am a Christian
I dont suffer illusions about you, LOL thats why you are just a prime example of people who give it and cant take criticism...but i sure as hell refuse to argue with you about "you". I dont personally give a flying fuck what your religion is.
I have much more important shit going on that is taking up my precious time.
Go attempt to troll someone else.

Lucy, the "In" is silent... and not visible on the forum either. I'd pin them in, but we're not allowed to alter the quotes.

After all, without *his* "in," ET would be "Ex Led Ty Rat," and that makes no sense.

Similarly...well, enough said.

French police say that the 3 gunmen have ties to Yemeni terrorist network.
