Where did that come from... We just do not know what went down... I said she shot through the door carelessly... But she could have called and the husband wanted to scare her... It would make a difference don't you think?

How do you know she shot through the door carelessly, if you don't know what went down? Are you saying that shooting through a closed door is always careless? Or, was her shooting through the door careless because he's okay even though she shot him?

So it is up to folks like Muse and me to keep pointing out the outrageous and deadly results of the regulations that exist today and hope we can change minds.

You analyzed the situation, yet, others can't?

One of the first things ANY responsible gun owner or user learns is to IDENTIFY YOUR TARGET. She obviously did not do this. She knew approximately where the "target" was located. But she did not identify the target. Hunters are shot every year because someone sees brush move, and so fire blindly into the brush thinking they are shooting a deer, or elk, or...? Here she shot blindly through the door, not knowing who she was shooting at.

Do you know what happened? Neither do I. Nowhere did I say she did or didn't act responsibly.

The article points out that there is no indication that he announced himself or shut off the alarm. If he was trying to scare her by not responding to her requests to identify himself, and he was making a lot of noise (to instill more fear) while not attempting to shut off the alarm, that may have more to do with this than anything else (note the "If" at the start of this sentence, showing that this is hypothetical and might not have any accuracy involved).

No one has mentioned that there had been a number of burglaries in the neighborhood recently.
He has already been released from the hospital so maybe he will shed some light on what happened.
Could be he was the one being really stupid.

In the article, it was mentioned that she may have already been on edge because of 4 home burglaries, and 4 car break-ins in the neighborhood since January 2014.

Gun ownership is regulated.

Not effectively nor as aggressively as the situation warrants

not nearly as regulated as cars are. oh thats the point eh?

No Aylee

If she had the proper training with a weapon she would not have shot through a door...see the difference? If it was a rapist and he came through the door she could have shot him with a lot better chance of hitting him... or if she yelled she had a gun the real rapist would most likely of left... Then the police could have been called... either way the husband is not shot.

Butch

The closer the intruder gets, the more danger she is in. You are essentially saying that she has no right to be in fear for her life until he has actually begun his attack.

Stop being ridiculous Aylee .
Suggesting that this woman would have been better served by not firing through a closed door does not equate with suggesting that she allow the attack to actually begin.
Seeing who one is shooting at seems like a good idea in almost all situations

Why would I need all the facts of THIS situation to have formed an opinion on the LARGER situation ie:guns ?

I thought this thread was about this situation? How can you use a situation (this one) to support your assertion if you don't know if it supports your assertion?

So there are morons that own guns.

And then there are people who are just morons.

The alarm sounded and Tiffany Segule, who had gotten back in the bed, shot her husband in the chest through their closed bedroom door... it's unclear whether he ever announced himself or tried to turn off the alarm.

So after a woman home alone has seen her husband off to work and returned to bed, the intruder alarm warns her of an illegal entry, or attempt, the which of which is soon resolved by the sound of someone outside her bedroom door. Because the door is closed, the intruder can't see her yet and that's a very good way to keep things. I call it a good shoot, and her husband gets a Darwin commendation.

Zia Segule was able to walk and talk following the shooting, said police. He has been released from Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He declined to speak in detail with media when he returned home early Friday afternoon, but said "I'm good."

He declined to speak in detail. Heh. Yeah, I don't think I would want to either.

I know someone else who could use a Darwin award [8|]
How is it ever a good idea to shoot at someone/something on the other side of the door without ascertaining what the fuck you are shooting at ?
Unfucking believable ,what a putz.

The reactions of pro-fun posters are alarmingly predictable.

It doesn't seem to matter how tragic the circumstances, how stupid the behaviour of the people involved, how senseless and avoidable the shootings were. It is never the fault of legal responsible gun wielding people. The tragedy is never the result of the gross over supply and easy availability of guns or inexperienced/untrained/poorly trained people having access to firearms. It's always something else ........

The right to life trumps all other rights and it is this right that is so regularly violated. Second Amendment rights are meaningless to the thousands of victims of legal/illegal gun violence as they lie in their coffins. I'm glad I don't live in a place where the right to bear lethal weapons over rides the right to life.

Because my assertion is that there are too many guns.....knowing that she shot her husband through a CLOSED door seems to butress that opinion.
is that clear enough ?

Musicmystery -> RE: Woman accidentally shoots husband who tried to surprise her with breakfast (1/10/2015 8:27:40 PM)

So basically, the right to shoot shit through doors if someone doesn't take full responsibility for the gun holder's mania trumps surprising your wife with breakfast.

The nuts get nuttier with every episode.

Stupid post actually. The reactions of anti gun posters, while not alarming are equally predictable.

Sure the right to life trumps all other rights so that means we have a right to not be sitting ducks like all those guys in France.

If ya want to talk about gun availability, France doesn't have gun availability. They have more regulations and gun control than Chicago and New York City combined. So I have to ask again, where did those assholes get their AK 47's ?

Oh no! You can't bring that up. That's exploiting a tragedy for political gain. Don't you know that only the people who hate guns are allowed to exploit tragedy?

lovmuffin -> RE: Woman accidentally shoots husband who tried to surprise her with breakfast (1/10/2015 9:13:57 PM)

Oh crap !!!!! I forgot about that. Even so, I'm curious to know the answer to my question.

How does that pro gun saying go ????

Let me see.....If guns are outlawed, only terrorists will have AK 47's. yeah, that's it.

TheHeretic -> RE: Woman accidentally shoots husband who tried to surprise her with breakfast (1/10/2015 9:25:39 PM)

FR

I'm not sure how we have gone from Muse's little anecdote about gun safety, to the availability of Kalashnikovs in Paris, but I'm going to hope this couple is able to laugh about this story at their 50th wedding anniversary.
