There are more than dozen places in the synoptic gospels where Christ declares, but I say (something different).

True.

And the early Christians, after much wrangling, decided that circumcision was not a requirement for baptizing Gentile converts.

Why is the Right so afraid of Sharia Law?

It's in the fucking Bible.

Discussion?

Over the centuries people have put in blood, sweat and tears to ensure we can co-exist with certain freedoms. It follows that a return to a religion based dictatorship is not advisable. Not sure that 'afraid' is the right choice of word, considering that there is no chance that Sharia Law will gain much of a foothold. You can't turn back the tide of centuries of progress.

Why didnt Monty Python ever do a skit based on that requirement

It would have been a good one

ANYTHING the lads (Monty Python Troupe) did was good!

As far as Jesus, "changing" the law: in one verse, He specifically says: "I come not to change the law but to perfect it".

I've always believed that that was a political move on his part because the leaders of the Hebrew faith would have killed Him, if He claimed ... Oooops! That's right. They did kill Him.

Seriously, as a Christian, I don't even bother with the OT so, Leviticus doesn't come into play for me. Hell, I barely pay attention to any of the words that aren't in red font in my bible.

Most Christians, today - whether they want to believe it or not - would more accurately be called: "Paulians".

You know ... Paul, the guy that never met Jesus and was thrown out of every country in which he tried to preach? In fact, in the NT, Paul makes references to Leviticus to change Jesus' message. Paul was an opportunist. I denounce him.

Jesus was definitely politically aware -- riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, for example...if he'd pranced in on an Arabian, they'd have killed him on the spot.
