UC Berkeley students protest Domino's Pizza for thanking cows for milk

Thanking cows for milk is “animal exploitation,” according to students at the University of California, Berkeley.

Members of UC Berkeley’s Organization for Animal Advocacy gathered outside a local Domino’s Pizza recently to protest the chain’s latest pizza box design, which allegedly endorses the ‘rape and forcible impregnation’ of dairy cows.

Printed atop pizza boxes, the design thanks dairy cows for their milk since it’s a necessary ingredient in most Domino’s pizzas...

"It is never okay to rape someone, steal their children and milk, or kill someone for palette pleasure. Help us speak on behalf of dairy cows today."

Help us indeed.

Looks like the professors at UC Berkeley aren't giving out enough homework.

I can only image the tears of joy their parents must cry when they see this, then see the tuition bill.

That just tops off the weekend.

First I learned this weekend that "Chink in the armor," was a racist statement. Apparently chain, loricated, and scale are all "races" of armor.

And the National Pan-Hellenic council banned adult women members at U of Va from attending parties that were held by adult males. I thought that it was the 21st century, but this is sounding much more 19th century to me.

Ah yes, thank you. Another of many "Tales from the Edge".

@USArmy uses racist term for Asians in headline! #inexcusable I’m waiting for an apology. @bjones @ArmyTimesTony

Inexcusable! Oh my.

Lt. Col. Alayne Conway, an Army public affairs officer, said Friday that the service was surprised by the reaction “since there is nothing even remotely racial” in the expression... Nevertheless, based on feedback from some followers who expressed offense, we deleted it. It was certainly not our intention to offend anyone.”

The service’s deletion of the message without an apology posted on Twitter led to more anger...

The @USArmy has decided to take down its racially insensitive tweet from earlier today making reference to "chinks". But, no apology?

The cruelty of it is heartbreaking.

When you guys can decide on what your argument is; could you inform the rest of us? Thanks in advanced!

Because last I checked, that is an image of US Citizens demonstrating their 1st amendment rights. The forth part of the 1st amendment at that!

.on a related point....regarding Uof VA? and your quote
And the National Pan-Hellenic council banned adult women members at U of Va from attending parties that were held by adult males. I thought that it was the 21st century, but this is sounding much more 19th century to me.

I admit freely I havent followed this, so let me ask, do you think that it might have to do with the rape that may or may not have happened(from the RS debacle), so they are doing gender segregation at parties(It still amazes me) to prevent anyone a chance to rape a woman(or man) or just as importantly to be accused of rape?
Whatever it is its bloody daft policy.
do you have a link? as I said, I havent read up on it, I cannot imagine going to any college, liberal or not and living by such a "rule" I dont see many college students taking notice.
WHile concern about the number of rapes in unis and colleges around the world is very much in the media, this is a step way too far in my humble opinion. backlash causing more retaliation and backlash ad nauseam.

That's right. They are demonstrating their 1st amendment right to free speech by protesting. And the folks here are demonstrating their 1st amendment right to free speech by commenting on how stupid they think the protest is.
Isn't free speech great

An inordinate amount of casual Speciesism on this thread.

I'm sort of a vegetarian in that I only eat anything that lives in or near water, and as you never more than 72 miles from water no matter where you live in England, then that's pretty much anything and no animal is safe.

Although it does raise an interesting philosophical question centred around empathy, not that I consider this when tucking into a lamb. I tend to eat first and ask questions later.

In terms of the OP, usually in England these environmental types are middle class lads and lasses living in holes and spending Mam and Dad's money on living in a hole in the ground or half way up a tree and doing pretty much anything to avoid work (including living in a hole in the ground). Few people take them seriously, and it seems it's no different in the United States.

I remember when Margaret Thatcher stopped school children from having milk courtesy of the State, and became universally known as ' Maggie
Thatcher the milk bottle snatcher'. Seems the students are following suit although for an altogether different motive. Who would have thought environmentalists and Maggie in cahoots.

Times have changed. The maturation process is more dragged out than when we were students.

Today -- they're kids. And sometimes they do stupid kid stuff for no clear reason and with no clear objective in mind. They just think it would be cool to do.

With luck, they live through the dangerous parts of that stupidity, and hopefully, ripen later into thoughtful, purposeful, effective members of society.

And some will always do stupid shit for no clear reason. It happens.

From a kinder perspective -- they feel they are victims at every turn, that everyone else has power over them. When they see some small way they think they can exercise power, however silly or stupid, they will, chasing that elusive sense of being in control.

Isn't Protest 101 part of the mandatory curriculum at Berkeley?

I think you're confusing Berkeley's programs with their student culture, which can have a "mind" of its own.
