8th Grade Class Receives Immigration Assignment that Leaves One Dad Shaking His Head

At Shattuck Middle School in Wisconsin, one 8th grade class was assigned homework on the topic of immigration policy in the United States using the following illustration...

[image]http://www.collarchat.com/upfiles/235229/4D513179B40440B5B8FA50ABD85569F6.jpg[/image]

The homework assignment asks:

Who are the men in the picture (What is their job? Look at what they are doing for a hint)
What are they building?
What do the symbols on their shirts represent?
What is action being done by each man?
What might this mean to us about immigration and citizenship?

What could possibly be wrong with this?

Jim Strick, the Communications Director for the Neenah Joint School District, confirmed to IJ Review that Davis did in fact assign the politically-charged worksheet. However, Strick was adamant that the assignment was not intended to shape the children’s political views...

Yeah, no.

Nothing wrong here. The image is quite neutral. Its showing a slice of American history (very recent US History). It shows the Democrats helping people enjoy being free and Republicans as the scum they are. Nope, don't see any problem with it. Its not politically charged, because anyone with half a brain could tell this image is an all true statement about the two major political parties on the topic of immigration.

What? Dont have half a brain?

Wisconsin Mom Alarmed at What School Quiz Suggests Conservatives Think About the Poor

Students at Nathan Hale High School were asked to place this and other statements on a political spectrum...

We should not help the poor, it’s a waste of money.

The answer scored as correct is Conservative/Republican.

[image]https://static.ijreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/WisconsinTest-770x330.jpg[/image]

The student’s mother told Fox News the correction bothered her son... “We tend to only see what they are learning as parents when they need our assistance on something. I think that all parents need to realize that there are things taught sometimes to their kids that aren’t true or at best are misleading.”

This is what they want more money to teach?

Dont see any problem here either.....

The statement: "We should not help the poor, it’s a waste of money.", is indeed a conservative/Republican viewpoint.

Should we not teach students true information rather that political ideology? Saying that conservative/Republican viewpoint of helping the poor and its a good use of the taxpayer money, would be a falsehood. Its the stuff FOX 'new's would try to pass off as true.

So much for your proclaimed "non-partisanship". The fact that you can't see the problem here completely blows up that lie.

It is NOT the schools job to teach political ideology as seen from the LIBERAL viewpoint anymore than it is to teach political ideology from the conservative viewpoint.

Both of these from the IJ Review. I will wait upon credible citations instead.

I liked this. My youngest nephew is a genius. He is also a digital learner yet he is forced to learn in traditional ways that do not at all nurture the way his mind CRAVES. He is more social than he was when he was younger but he could have easily been labelled as autistic because he can tolerate his brothers but is hard pressed about other children. He would rather engage adults and family members. The 21st Century Learner

I was taught US History incorrectly. I was told the Carter recession was Carter's fault by my history teacher. It wasn't until I took an interest in economics I realized it was due to NIXON's withdrawal from the Bretton Woods and that our investors panicked since our dollar was no longer backed by gold.

joether, I just realized something. You're not just a victim of our "liberal" education system - you are a poster child... And you should sue.

mnottertail -> RE: Progressive Education (2/24/2015 9:10:33 AM)

You are not a victim of education, rather a lack of same.

More educational lessons:

In Virginia, Liberty Middle School teacher Michael Denman forced his students to identify weaknesses in each of the Republican presidential contenders. They were then asked to develop a strategy to expose these flaws and research where they'd send their plans to reach President Barack Obama's campaign. Much to the shock and dismay of conservatives, the students weren't asked to vet Obama in like manner.
http://m.ibtimes.com/public-schools-indoctrinating-students-one-liberal-lesson-plan-time-213448

Northeast Middle School in Bristol, Connecticut was, until just recently, teaching social studies students that "The courts have consistently determined that the 2nd Amendment does not ensure each individual the right to bear arms. The courts have never found a law regulating the private ownership of weapons unconstitutional."......
The worksheet is published by "Instructional Fair" and it also says that "...the rights of this amendment are not extended to the individual citizens of the states. So a person has no right to complain about a Second Amendment violation by state laws.”......
And it goes further. The worksheet also says, that the 2nd Amendment "only provides the right of a state to keep an armed National Guard.”

For those who need explanations:
The first shows an extreme bias.
The second is an outright lie, the opposite is closer to the truth.

FR

Please keep in mind that a thread should have more substance than attack or festiveness.

With each member that staff notices a posting style that goes to extreme in Feisty, we will look at the posts made in a couple of threads and then decide if the member needs a reminder, warning or moderation. I have spoken enough, posted too much and if members aren't getting it yet, they may need more to assist them in understanding and complying with section guidelines and purpose.

Thank you

Yeah, I know.....Governors got together (and it has a Republican Chair and whatnot, Scott Walker on it).....

Nothing here was done by the federal government, btw.............

That common core needs more work than our highways and bridges.

If you know these stories are true, it would not be at all irrelevant to present some actual fact, and credible citations thereof, I need not see proffers of transubstantiation, just show me the actual wounds.

Not just wrong but ridiculous.

Let me first say that I am more in line with the Republican point of view on immigration. That said, I see nothing wrong or misleading in the first picture. Obama is trying to build a pathway to make it easier for illegal immigrants to become citizens. Is he, or is he not? That is exactly what is depicted in the picture. The Republican stance on immigration is for the illegal immigrants to not have that ease of becoming citizens. Is that, or is that not correct? To me, that is exactly what is depicted in the picture. 100% accurate.

As far as the second picture. . .I seem to remember a Mitt Romney speech concerning the 47%. Directly in line with the corrected answer in the second picture. Again, it seems accurate to me.

Instead of simply saying, "Not just wrong but ridiculous," how about giving the reasons you feel it's wrong and/or ridiculous?
