I don't know. I'm trying to reference that concept to transgender. So Caitlyn is now honing to paint pictures of rape?

Don't forget the "archetypal memory" of being burnt at the stake for being a witch.

I think we need Aylee's help here.

I'm thinking about joining here.

She took in one of her adopted brothers, who is black. Claimed he was her son, and turned him into a racist against whites

quote:

'Izaiah always was her favorite child,' another brother, Ezra, told the Post. 'She turned Izaiah kind of racist. Told Izaiah all this stuff about white people, made him really racist toward white people.'

here's a doozy that works in the "progressive education" thread too:

http://www.mrctv.org/blog/u-ca-profs-told-not-say-us-land-opportunity-its-racist-sexist-microaggression

quote:

Rodin's "The Thinker" must be doing a face palm.

One of the initiatives of the President of the University of California system, former DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, is to ensure that no student or university employee is insulted by "microaggressions" - terms which subconsciously have racist, sexist, or other kinds of statements with biased sub-context. Or, to put it another way, the University of California is now a proponent of political correctness gone mad.

Napolitano initiated a program where officials were taught not to use phrases such as:
•“America is the land of opportunity" (apparently the statement “asserts that race and gender do not play a role in life successes"),
•“There is only one race, the human race'" (this denies the "significance of a person of color’s racial/ethnic experience and history")
•“I believe the most qualified person should get the job," (meaning: "People of color are given extra unfair benefits because of their race.)."

Just think of the responsibility and the power Napolitano had under Clinton, too. There are some obvious parallels with Obamas DOJ heads, though those issues manifest themselves in different ways

Well, as a male my archetypal memories would, presumably differ than yours. In the realm of victimology, if you went in for that sort of thing, what archetypal memories should Caitlyn be having now that she's a woman?

quote:

"I told Harvard I was an undocumented immigrant," Dario Guerrero bragged in The Washington Post last fall. "They gave me a full scholarship."

In the 1990s, top-tier schools introduced a "diversity essay" requirement for undergrad admissions. The online "Common Application" used by hundreds of colleges and universities directs prospective students to "describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you."

More recently, the University of California at Berkeley mandated that all graduate school hopefuls supply a "personal history statement" with "information on how you have overcome barriers to access opportunities in higher education."

And that's not enough. Applicants for every U.C. Berkeley graduate program must provide "evidence of how you have come to understand the barriers faced by others, evidence of your academic service to advance equitable access to higher education for women, racial minorities and individuals from other groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education, evidence of your research focusing on underserved populations or related issues of inequality, or evidence of your leadership among such groups."

quote:

Administrators want members of campus to avoid the use of racist and sexist statements, though their notions about what kinds of statements qualify are completely bonkers. “America is a melting pot,” “Why are you so quiet?” and “I believe the most qualified person should get the job,” are all phrases that should raise red flags, according to the UC speech police.

Requests for faculty to quit perpetrating these teensiest of microaggressions are thankfully just that—requests—although the fact that they come straight from the desk of UC President Janet Napolitano lends them some muscle. On January 5, Napolitano dispatched letters to UC deans and department chairs inviting them to attend seminars “to foster informed conversation about the best way to build and nurture a productive academic climate.” That’s bureaucrat-speak for learn to keep your mouths shut.

Now it's craft beer. From Slate...

Craft Brewing Has a Sexism Problem

There are gross puns and derogatory illustrations on far too many beer labels. The misogyny needs to stop.

BOSTON (AP) -- The Museum of Fine Arts Boston is canceling "Kimono Wednesdays" after protesters decried the event as racist. In a Tuesday statement, the museum apologized for offending some visitors with the event, where museum goers were encouraged to don the traditional Japanese garments and pose in front of Claude Monet's "La Japonaise."

The museum said it had hoped to create an "interactive experience," helping museum goers appreciate the rich details, embroidery and fine materials of the garments. It said similar events took place when the painting, depicting a woman in a kimono, traveled throughout Japan for an exhibition. But protesters have held signs at the Boston museum's events, calling them "racist" and "imperialist."

Because, God forbid, we might appreciate seeing the real thing...being able to touch...that is a traditional clothing style from a culture and time different from our own.

For our Aussie friends...oh, and commercial-animal lovers:

Shearer who swore at SHEEP 'under investigation' after animal rights group PETA made an official complaint - claiming his bad language was causing them distress...

...Several animal rights organisations say that animals like sheep can interpret angry verbal attacks and be traumatised by them
'The allegation was that bad language was used by an employee on the property in front of the sheep, and that they could have been offended by the use of bad language. To my knowledge, there was no actual cruelty on the job.'

Tip: If you ever use the Daily Mail as a news source - which I'd never advise, for reasons stated ad nauseam here - you can *sometimes* find the truth buried a long way down in the story. Here it is, from your link:

"While a sheep 'won't get the nuances' of swear words 'what they will be getting is the threat inherent in the way it is used'.

'I believe they absolutely can comprehend emotion. If someone is hurling abuse at them they can instil fear in the animal,' she told ABC News.

'There are ways of working with animals that don't require screaming, shouting and beating.'"

I agree with that, but it appears to be irrelevant to the complaint:

"The allegation was that bad language was used by an employee on the property in front of the sheep, and that they could have been offended by the use of bad language." ~ABC News

If that is indeed the case, this is certainly the right thread for it.

Damn - you've got me there, Sanity. My entire worldview once again destroyed by the inexorable, colossal might of your reasoning powers. As always, you stand majestically like a towering giant of the intellect, while the rest of us can only quail at your feet as the searing light of your god-like intelligence burns through our brains.
