Status: offline 		It's not that simple, because the leaders of a country cannot fire the head of another department because they're trying to make a project better. The EPA or Ministry don't outright reject a project unless it's truly that damaging and there are no other alternatives to make it better and it isn't that benefitial. No, they try to minimize damages while amplifying benefits. Their JOB is to assess, determine impacts and provide alternatives/fixes to the project, so you're essentially saying they'd be fired for doing their job, which is insanity.

Status: offline 		Well considering you work high up in the government where you witness this all the time clearly your word is law, it must be true

If there's one thing you need to know about me, I don't take things at face value, I need evidence before an opinion of mine can change. But of course things like this can and do happen in countries world wide, but more often than not it's likely bribery than threat of being fired. But when it comes to an entire department who's job is to provide oversight on a project meant to HELP the environment, why would they be fired for trying to make the project better? It makes no sense, it's self defeating. It's like beating someone up for trying to give you a free 100$ bill. This is what is insane about the whole thing you've seemingly fabricated. Peer review isn't meant to destroy a piece of research, in most cases its constructive criticism meant to make the research paper better and easier to understand.

Status: offline 		Actually I worked at a lower rung of a municipality and worked in the military. I did achieve a national certification in occupational safety and health. My peers usually had Masters degrees while I had my HS education. I had interns sent by the University to work with me to learn. I spent more time teaching them the real world than safety. They were, what is commonly referred to as book smart common sense poor.

I worked in CA. My work went to court in NY (after I retired) and when questioned how I arrived at my conclusions, I wasn't called to testify. It was the defense team that called. I think they had a problem trying to get to innocent. The guy was terminated for cause.

But I have seen this type of insubordination failures get people into trouble over and over when the bosses conclusions were just wrong.

With the discussion winding down and hopefully with you having learned a little something about the peer review process and science itself, I'm gonna take my leave for the day. I got a lot of assignments to work on and I'm going with my friend to the health clinic later who's getting a potentially cancerous mole removed (hail universal healthcare!). I'll be back tomorrow to see what more ignorant stuff pops up on here

It sounds like what you are looking for is a meta-analysis.

The problem you are going to find is that you are going to have to narrow your question that you want answered. Just like when you wrote papers in high school and college, the thesis is going to have to be narrow and specific. You will also likely have to pay for the search and the article. If you have a local college or, better yet, university, you might go there and see what the librarians can help you find.

The interwebz Ken, the interwebz! Dollars to donoughts the library there has online access to the proper science journals. Think JStor for science.


Speaking of that. . . you might be able to strike up a convo over the interwebz with a librarian at a university.

If it is something that you are really interested in and want to put time and energy into. If it is just a minor curiosity, then it is likely not worth it to you. (personally I have no interest in investing my time and energy into it.)
