kdsub -> Should Dzhokhar Tsarnaev be executed? (4/17/2015 8:03:19 AM)

I am normally a supporter of the death penalty as many of you know. I believe some people forfeit their right to live when they commit certain heinous crimes….BUT… In this case I believe life in prison is the greater punishment for this animal.

He will need to be separated from the general prison population for his “ safety” and this will mean he will live his 70 or so years alone inside of four walls to contemplate his God and actions. I cannot imagine a worse punishment… Death is too easy and fast for him.

What do you think?

If he posed a threat to inmates I'd be all for execution. I believe he will be prey in the GP, so life w/o possibility is perfect.

To me the death penalty as opposed to a life sentence is a mercy for most… I hope they do keep him safe and separated from the general population. Can you imagine waking up every day for the rest of your life knowing only the four walls of your cell and an hour a day alone walking circles in a pen with no way to end your life?

greg gutfeld suggested something rather creative as punishment...i'll see if I can find it...

found it:

No reason his punishment should be delayed. I say, cook up his justice in the same sort of pressure cooker he used to murder his victims

No, I don't think he should.

How about we don't stoop to his level.....would that work for you ?
I don't know about the rest of you but I am really, really uncomfortable with the state killing people in my name.
Life w/o possibilty seperates him from society, keeps us safe from him and leaves our humanity undamaged.

S'okay. You live in the south. It is a northern state that would be killing him. And they do not do it in your name. The do it in the name of the state.

If they would do the execution in a timely manner and get it over and done with, I would be all for it. Anymore. . . I consider the long drawn out process to be a form of cruelty.

slvemike4u -> RE: Should Dzhokhar Tsarnaev be executed? (4/17/2015 12:37:23 PM)

Yes in this case since I don't live in the commonwealth of Massachusetts it wouldn't ,technically speaking,be done in my name.
Do me a favor though, google which countries still execute as part of their criminal justice system....and than come back and tell me you are comfortable being in that company.
The death penalty is barbaric,it's revenge done in the name of the state(happier now ?) and no civilized society would continence it.

JVoV -> RE: Should Dzhokhar Tsarnaev be executed? (4/17/2015 12:46:36 PM)

I believe that a death sentence would be the safest option for the country.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Should Dzhokhar Tsarnaev be executed? (4/17/2015 12:50:16 PM)

I think the families of the victims should be the ones to decide. If someone wants to limit it to parents, children, and siblings. I'd be okay with that.

Let them vote on it. If the verdict turns out to be death, offer those that voted for death the option to be the ones to carry out the sentence and give them immunity, from the start.

Yes,cause that would be a giant step forward for society [:-]

Not to mention giving innocent victims of the original tragedy a chance to add to their distress....fucking brilliant [:@]

I agree with letting victims & their families have a chance to let the jury know their wishes. Most murder trials allow for it.

I do not agree with letting those families be the executioners. This cannot be about personal vengeance.

That's fine (your second point) but I didn't say that victims and families should have a chance to let the jury know their wishes.

I specifically said:

No "have a say". Let his fate be in their hands. They are the ones who have been wronged. The government/courts have said: "Yes. He's guilty. What shall we do with him?"

I believe their's should be the ultimate word.

Michael

JVoV -> RE: Should Dzhokhar Tsarnaev be executed? (4/17/2015 1:27:28 PM)

That's not how the American justice system works.

The jury must decide. Families of the victims may have a chance to share their wishes for sentencing, and rightfully should. But the final burden of deciding between life and death should not be put upon anyone that cannot get out from under their own pain and suffering yet.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I didn't know that.

Evidence of this can be found:

I think ...

You're a decent enough guy but where in the blue fuck did I say that letting families have the final say IS how the system works? Why must you erect strawmen in order to show someone that they're wrong (when they aren't, just by nature of your strawman)?

Knock it off, already, please.

He should get the death penalty. He knew exactly what he was doing as well as the potential outcome of his actions. There is no denying his taking / maiming innocent people. Just for a little thought, he has now created more victims. Those people who were involved in his trial had to not only re-live the horror but had to view photos / items first hand of all the gore that was created by his actions. They had to see things that even the public will probably never see. FYI, the state will only pay for 1 hour of psychological counseling for the jurors. Maybe it's me but I feel they're going to need much more than that.

I suggest, for those who want him to have life in prison, calculate how much it will cost to keep him alive for the rest of his life and divide the cost among them. Let them donate the money to a fund to help continue pay the victims for the atrocities they'll continue to live through for the rest of their lives.

Welcome to the boards.
Now lets deal with your issues with basic math.
Do some research, figure out the cost to the state of a death penalty case....than figure out what it costs to house and feed(really really cheap food) a prisoner.
Get back here and submit a new post wherein you realize it's cheaper to keep him in jail without the possibility of parole than it is executing him.
