As a mother of three, 2 girls and 1 boy, with my son being 18 now...boys are different to raise. Male culture is about who can top who, even in friendly terms. My son pointed this out one day when he said male culture is all about 'seeing who can piss the farthest'. At least for teens it is. Teens are so hormonally charge and raw, they react and don't always think of the consequences. They take things too far.

Thank you for the welcome.

Team activities are so important for them! Mine is more of a deep thinker/Chess type of guy and loved being in Chess club and on Debate Team.(he actually has his own hash tag now from that. LOL) This pretty much taught him rules, and having to follow a more logical path to win, so I think it was immensely helpful. I am glad you mentioned females also, as our oldest is a definate Alpha Female and thinks much like a male would with regards to Top Dog. I read an enlightening article about how the Armed Services are set up to capitalize on this heirarchy of teamwork and having a strong leader to follow, and why it works especially well for males.

Culture may understand that things are different between the sexes, but sometimes it is not very supportive of them.

I agree, but I don't consider that culture or civilization should be supportive. And that is why I live off the grid, four miles outside the nearest town that has a population of 32 souls. I expect both culture and civilization to exist for its own propagation and safety. People either join or they don't. Some effect change, that's for sure. But for me, I don't inflict myself upon them and stay out of their sight as much as possible. It's a mutually acceptable arrangement so far.

the really interesting thing here is, these are the types of things Christina hoff summers writes about in her two books about who stole feminism, and how society is trying to raise little boys to be little girls...

and some insight as to why leftists go bonkers when she is invited to speak at college campuses.

it also gives some insight into the conservative argument that kids do better on the whole with two parents of opposite gender in the house.

Of course that perspective is from the "I hate everything" position and should be taken with a grain of salt. Most of all of that goes away when the real father of the kids, married to the mother, stays in the home. But that boat floated and sailed away with the Great Society and other leftist scheems to fix the world that ended up making it worse with unintended consequences.

Just wondering as a side bar... do you blame the fragmentation of African American families on the civil rights reforms of the 1960's? This seems to be a popular stance of conservative Republicans now days.

I believe there is some truth to this... I believe one of the biggest problems with any huge sweeping legislation is that once it is signed into law there is political resistance to change it if needed. The idea of giving a group of people equal opportunity in education, employment, financial aid, and reasonable reparations for past racism was a noble attempt to right the worse wrong in our history. But it is and was ridiculous to believe that massive legislation to achieve these goals could be legislated and expected to work without changes and fine tuning.

Republicans would have been better served to work for changes rather then appeal... the Democrats would have been better served to compromise rather than fight any attempt at change. When it became obvious that African American families were splintering just to become eligible for government handouts changes should have been made to discourage this.... When mothers and fathers discovered they could make more money by taking government handouts than working...changes should have been made. Rather then just give support in the form of handouts legislation should have been changed to allow support while demanding job training for future self reliance. When African Americans began helping themselves to handouts and not helping themselves out of poverty the legislation should have been re-evaluated. This did not fail because of race... it did not fail because of the color of skin... it failed because it was flawed legislation that encouraged dependence rather then independence. If the tables had been turned whites would have followed the same course... it is just human nature.

How can helping your fellow man be wrong? The only wrong was and is not trying harder when something has failed. The idea was not wrong... just the mechanics on how to achieve the goals. Rather than scrap the laws demanding equality... lets change them so they work.

Butch
