http://www.10news.com/news/mom-outraged-her-daughter-is-asked-to-perform-naked-for-ucsd-art-class-final-050915

Is it right to make a student get naked or fail a class? The sylibis indicated only an erotic expression. I like to look at pretty girls as much as anyone but forced nudity isn't what I believe America is about.

Here's more:

Dominguez’s biography on the department website lists a series of political efforts, including a government-funded project called the “Transborder Immigrant Tool,” in which he handed out cell phones to prospective illegal immigrants with instructions about how to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

http://www.breitbart.com/california/2015/05/10/naked-final-exam-at-uc-san-diego-sparks-moms-outrage/

At UC San Diego, students are being required to perform “a gesture that traces, outlines or speaks about your erotic self,” according to the course syllabus of Professor Roberto Dominguez’s visual arts class. “It’s the standard canvas for performance art and body art,” Dominguez told the local news. “It is all very controlled…If they are uncomfortable with this gesture, they should not take the class.”

One mother, whose daughter is in his class, doesn’t agree claiming that the requirement was not clear and was a “perversion.”a

Apparently, "erotic self"...when used in a syllabus...is the code term for get naked in class. Perhaps because "get naked" would be considered a "triggering" term. Or perhaps because it might have drawn a response sooner?

DaddySatyr -> RE: Get Nude or Fail Class (5/11/2015 2:49:45 AM)

I have to agree with Ken, very plainly:

Forced nudity is never a good thing (but any ladies with this fetish are encouraged to write me [:D] ) and I will go a step further: A class like this should never be a requirement in any curricula (but any ladies interested in my own version of this class are, likewise, encouraged to contact me).

One can express eroticism without being naked, Burlesque is the perfect example.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Get Nude or Fail Class (5/11/2015 6:11:12 AM)

My "erotic self" resides between my ears so, there are any number of "gestures" that I could "perform" to demonstrate it.

This sounds like some sicko perv, trying to get his kink itch scratched.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Get Nude or Fail Class (5/11/2015 6:18:57 AM)

I think eroticism is about the subtleties of tactile, emotional and mental seduction. Nudity can be erotic, but to require it as such sort of undermines the concept.

Sounds to me like the guy just gets off in being outlandish and tries too hard to be controversial.

To answer the question, no. I guess if it specifically stated in the syllibus "Nudity required to pass," that would be different but I don't think erotic self implies that at all.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Get Nude or Fail Class (5/11/2015 6:34:05 AM)

It seems like the student's mistake to me. It is part of the curriculum and has been for 11 years. That is like taking an art class on human form and freaking out that you have to sketch a nude model. You can stand on the same stupid soap box claiming "why should my daughter be forced to look at a nude man" . . . or studying ballet and complaining that you have to wear revealing tights or costumes.

Instead of taking the art out of the arts . . . the students shouldn't take the class if they can't handle the content. Her premiss is that being nude is humiliating . . . that is her personal emotional problem and is not in accord with the opinion of the world of art . . . or the class she is in.

Lucylastic -> RE: Get Nude or Fail Class (5/11/2015 6:59:30 AM)

You dont get much burlesque in a university art class, a dance class, the fashion/dance is a form of art.....yes, its self expression, yes, its erotic, or glamorous, or sexy, titillating etc but im loving the condemnation from the males(oh and the mom) who are calling it perversion.

Erotic self yes, is very much whats between the ears.....but art is an expression of whats in the mind.
free expression....

I wonder how many of the people here look at porn or erotica of women who REALLY have been FORCED into porn, sex/trafficking and just wanna see the T&A and piss flaps but certainly dont give a shit about ugliness that can be behind it.

The guys been doing this for 11 years, and one mom complains (not the adult daughter) without a name, about "Force" being applied...is that like "force" as I understand it?
DO you have a problem with a man getting mental gratification from being among young adults?, Do you have trouble with freedom of expression? and speech (ie nude art classes) or is it because its a liberal arts university, or is it....Forced
Maybe mommmy dearest should have read the syllabus and what UCSD actually stands for?
I know personally that being naked in a group of naked people is quite......liberating, even for one with as many scars and years of being told nudity is perverted...as me.
Oh and burlesque is one of my favourite subjects and why I picked that up first.

No, it's not. There is a huge difference between taking an art class where you learn to draw the human form and being required to show up naked in a class. Drawing a paid nude artist has centuries of history. Being required to show up nude at a university class is weird, even if it's been gotten away with for eleven years.

Here:

http://www.breitbart.com/california/2015/05/10/naked-final-exam-at-uc-san-diego-sparks-moms-outrage/

Shows its a prerequisite. So it's required. Yet, the way university works I doubt any of the kids didn't know a year or so in advance it was required. However, this complant was from a Mom. If I were her I'd be asking why my tax dollars were going to paying one weirdo a salary to force eleven kids to get in a room naked with him as a requirement for a degree that will pretty much be worthless once it's obtained.

You don't ger much forced nudity either and I'm sure that's more valid an argument. Hum, men like watching porn and some women have been forced into porn, so forcing these people to be nudes okay. Novel argument.

Mom should have read syllabus, yes it's all the mom's fault and she shouldn't be complaining now. Also a novel arguement.

Thats why I pasted the relevant part of the syllabus in my post. Because it uses the term "erotic self" and the cites I gave...And the one Jen gave...have Mr. Dominguez trying to explain how everyone should KNOW that it means naked.

Like I said...And others have said...you don't have to be nude to express yourself artistically. I love burlesque also and the idea of seeing Danielle doing a burlesque dance or one of the modern day burlesque queens doing her version of Sally Rand's old fan dance strikes me as more erotic than someone being having to be naked to "earn" their grade.

Lucylastic -> RE: Get Nude or Fail Class (5/11/2015 7:50:46 AM)

If you stopped putting words in peoples mouths, they might not get so peeved with you
I did NOT say
quote:

yes it's all the mom's fault and she shouldn't be complaining now.

when you want to have a valid argument, make sure you understand what is being said, and NOT what you think I said.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Get Nude or Fail Class (5/11/2015 9:15:08 AM)

To me, this situation almost sounds tantamount to sexual harassment. I can only put myself in the place of one of the students (since I am a student).

I'm a guy that LOVES to be nekkid, as often as possible. Whenever I want to take my clothes off, I want to be able to do it. I go to nude beaches, almost exclusively. I wear no clothes around the house; all by choice.

In that last paragraph, I used the words "want" and "choice". There's the difference. CD, I am still convinced that you and I are kindred spirits.

I can't help but wonder how normal compassionate human beings that are involved in this lifestyle, especially, can't wrap their heads around anything non-consensual being a bad thing.

I can't understand it but, understanding that the left frequently uses moving goal posts, I understand the seeming lack of thought, put into responses.

In my moms art classes in the 40s & 50s it was the norm for the students to take turns modeling nude. Art is not prejudice about nudity or who's it is. Fretting about who's getting nude is the emotional hang up I am pointing out. You're attaching something more to the nudity than art. It's like you're saying it's OK for them to be nude but not you? Don't you see the inequity or insecurity or immaturity in that? Would be like saying voyeurism is OK but exhibitionism isn't.

I wonder if you have to get nekkid if you're just auditing the class, and not taking it for a grade...
