You promised never to share my pictures! You know how I hate to be seen without my make up. Oh well, at least no one knows which one is me, but I am sure they could make a good guess.

LMAO... Alexia must have sampled the site when it was running like a bat out of hell the other day. Normally Collarspace is average, in the 50% range for speed. Alexia now says:

How fast does collarspace.com load?

Very Fast (0.692 Seconds), 84% of sites are slower.

. . . if only it were true.

You know, I am trying to live without a months pay. Wonder if there is any connection.

I had to, I really did. I will go sit in the bad mod corner now.

You AND tech should be getting time and a half for everyone who is pouting about not having world class speed to their free product!
Yes, I miss seeing the screens load quickly, yes I miss the photos instead of the little black box with the "x" in it. But the speed and inconvenience at least allows for the site to still BE HERE! Much better than a shut down or black out that we all experienced not long ago.
Mod 3, brownie points for not pasting "Get a real life" all over the place in a fit of rage! Just remember, the "customer is always right" is some BS that corporate officers came up with because they did not have to deal with the actual customers.

Is this site running very slowly for anyone else or is it just me?

New on here - not sure if this is normal?

It's just you.

Actually it is not. The site is abnormally slow. It is taking more than a minute to load pages.

Looks like a VERY determined DDOS attack. I can't imagine ANY group of IT professionals being THIS incompetent.
No wait, I've been here for years - it's well within my imagination...

That's cute.

I just noticed another odd phenomenon. While I'm able to get around the site fine and send messages, the timestamps are a bit off. I just sent one today and according to the site I sent it 4 days ago.

Maybe they've now included time travel as an additional membership benefit.

The site doesn't load for me about 95 percent of the time. I have watched a 30 minute tv show while hitting the refresh button and the site only loaded like twice in the time it took to watch the show.

To the moderator, if you have a solution my name is the same on the site as here so you can contact me on the site, if and when it loads.

It has been this way for almost a month now.

The site has been running like it's on a Commodore 64 and I don't think you can run a time travel machine on a Commodore 64?

But who would benefit from running a DDOS on CollarSpace?

Alt.com fell to pieces and is ranked 2000 places lower than CollarSpace. I don'tthink they have the resources.
AFF is top dog and wealthy. They wouldn't bother, it would be less effort to buy CollarSpace than implement a DDOS.
That leaves FetLife that is perpetually going off track because they run Ruby on Rails. They can't keep their own shit together much less break someone else's shit.

Who hosts a site that would program a bot to infect their own clients and run a DDOS against CollarSpace??? No one I can think of off hand.

I doubt it is a DDoS.

I remember someone telling me that the owner of the site wrote all of the code for collarme originally.
If they are switching servers, and someone unfamiliar with his coding and logic are doing the switching and patching, there will very likely be some unexpected and frustrating hang ups.

ETA since I seriously doubt it is a DDOS attack, it is almost guaranteed to be just that.
CS might as well assume it is, as that seems on par with my experience.

I highly doubt it's a DDoS attack if for no other reason than Mod3 has said there are technical difficulties that they are trying to resolve.. Why do people keep trying to invent other reasons for the issues? Even if it is the result of a DDoS attack and they're trying to deal with it.. Why does it matter so much that people need to have that answer? What's wrong with the simple "We're experiencing technical issues, please be patient while we are sorting them out.."? It would be different if we were paying customers or stockholders/investors, where we could demand and expect a reasonable explanation. But most of us are simply regular users who get what we pay for--More than what we pay for, really, because we're paying nothing, but getting something more than nothing.

Look at it like this.. Let's say you decide to throw a BBQ party in your yard, and invite your neighbors to come over, free of charge. How would you feel if they came over and just started complaining? "You're taking too long to cook the free food! And I bet it tastes like dog food, too! And this beer.. It's a brand I've never heard of before! How dare you serve me free no-name brand beer! And look the way you decorated your house! I don't approve! You need to hire someone with a sense of style!" I'm betting you'd be pulling out a shotgun right about now to shove up their ass with a load of buck shot, no? So, why do so many people act in a manner towards others that they would not like others to act towards them?

Everyone is frustrated with the way things have been. Including those who help run the site, both the paid staff and the unpaid volunteers (I am one such volunteer--I help run the chat server here as an IRC operator), who often work hard to bring you the best they can.. Often without any thanks, but lots of criticism and abuse. Even the polite and helpful suggestions that some give me are sometimes taken the wrong way simply because after so many people have jumped all over my butt demanding we jump right to giving them a FREE site, with better service than even the pay sites, because, you know, the whole universe came to a stand still when you were born, and owes it's very existence to you.. Err.. Sorry, got caught up in the rant! But you see what I mean? After dealing with that constantly.. Even I have trouble not snapping at even those few who try to approach me politely about the issues and problems. My patience and tolerance has simply been knocked down and kicked around until it's at the end of the line.

The only thing I really understand is how people here are mostly frustrated with the lack of information, not knowing what's going on, except hearing all kinds of rumors (for example, I keep hearing that the site is shutting down for good on June 23.. backed up by the claim "I know one of the moderators, and they told me!".. Well, I know Elvis personally, and he told me he's making a comeback in 2020, five more years! :-P). Seriously, the only thing I'd really like to see is some kind of short blurb on the top bar, or an announcement in the Announcements forum, letting people know they're aware of and still working on the problems. But since I don't know how easy or hard that may be for them to do right now, I'll just live with it being only a mere suggestion, and continue to try to be patient and look forward to things getting back in working order, and maybe even better than before!

C.

ETA: Yes, this was meant as a FR towards the entire topic, not towards anyone in particular :-)

Umm...I'm thinking this was a fast reply, but since it does appear as a response to me I'll respond with; I'm not upset, frustrated or complaining. My profile is hid on the other side so I don't really have any reason to worry about it one way or the other. I'm just here for the forums.

I am the moderator accused of stating the site was shutting down. I didn't know there was a date to it! lol I was made aware of this yesterday or the day before. How the days blend when they have no end. No such conversation took place. I did not and would not spread a lie. If someone ever says that I said something, take it with a grain of salt until you see my post saying such or you hear it from me. Of course, now with you're sharing that, I do understand a bit more. lol

Thank you Casteele.
