Just shows that the right wing is once again on the wrong side of history. They will not stop progress, no matter how much they whine and moan, they will and have lost, and they will continue to loose until they learn that they cannot force their primitive views on others. Congrats USA, well done!

It is hard for me to understand the four (4) judges squarely on the wrong side of history and progress here. All of them are aging, crotchedly men, albeit Alito and Roberts are is relatively young. I 100% agree with Tkman117.

Lets all pause for an hour of hate...

You dont think there are any gay right wingers... Or other conservatives who are unopposed to (or even actually favor) gay marriage?

Or leftist homophobes, or are otherwise opposed to gay marriage?

Why is everything about fomenting hate. Why cant people honorably disagree about politics

I know and love people in both camps. Argue with them all the time. About all kinds of things. But still love them. And they love me, no matter how much I piss them off sometimes. [:)]

It seems to me to be much more about an end of an aspect of hate and the beginning of making a certain sort of love easier to make reality, I think - especially that between members of the same sex who want to get married.

kdsub -> RE: SCOTUS rules gay marriage legal in all states! (6/26/2015 8:32:43 AM)

Just a side note BUT...

In the news of our Post Dispatch here in St. Louis there have been two stories one concerning the Healthcare act and now the Gay marriage decision. In these stories local Republicans secretly have been stating how pleased they were of these two decisions... Not because they thought them right but because in one they had new strong political fodder over healthcare, and the other they no longer had to fear gay backlash and changing public opinions on gay marriage.

Why are our elected representatives so afraid of stepping up for what is right and representing the people and their wishes? Is the party line gospel to them. To me the lack of independent thinking in the Republican party is holding them back. And it is a shame because with some independent thinking and party compromise, considering the mood of the nation, they could easily take the Presidency and Congress.

Yes it is a victory for love as much as anything else. To coin a cliche; love always finds a way ........

I think this thread shows that there is a lot of hatred towards republicans or just anyone that disagrees with the ruling.

I disagree with the ruling because I do not think that marriage is a right. It is a contract. Which means it should fall under contract law. Anyone 18 or older that has not been deemed unfit by a judge should be able to enter into a contract.

I also disagree that it is a right in the Constitution because the Constitution is mainly about the Federal Government. Marriage contracts fall under the 10th and are reserved for the states. This is why you find the marriage stuff in state constitutions.

You do have a point, although traditionally it has always been those on the right who oppose gay marriage, statistics don't lie. http://www.gallup.com/poll/183272/record-high-americans-support-sex-marriage.aspx

Although this has nothing to do with fomenting hate, I'm simply pointing out that those who stand in the way of progress (whether they be left or right) will be left behind and looked at unfavourably as people who unjustly tried to control the lives of others, just like your ilk during the civil war, the civil rights movement, the women's rights movement, and more.

Names of hate groups and those who are intolerant may have changed over the years, but that hardly changes the fact that people who fought against changes such as the legalization of gay marriage are the kind of people who seek to control others and force their own views and opinions on them. It's not hate to point out that apples are fruit, so why is it hate to point out that statistically the right wing has stood in the way of gay marriage? Easy answer there: it isn't, but keep believing what you want.

I was wonder how long it would take for someone to come along and use this good news as an excuse to spew a little hate. Just couldn't help yourself, could ya?

I am very much coming to admire Justice Kennedy... he is my kind of moderate. Below is his answer to the above and I agree wholeheartedly.

"The generations that wrote and ratified the Bill of Rights and the Fourteenth Amendment did not presume to know the extent of freedom in all of its dimensions, and so they entrusted to future generations a charter protecting the right of all persons to enjoy liberty as we learn its meaning."

This overrides all in my opinion... after all the Constitution is a living document meant to be interpreted by the Supreme Court and its meaning relevant to today.
