............UX/UI could be easily and greatly improved in this way, as well as other options for "verified" membership, or paid memberships (for perks above and beyond what is there now, such as "featured, more photos, etc.), and this site could turn more of a profit.

That pretty much sums up the business outline I submitted to him through a third party. Pretty standard stuff really. I just don't know if he ever really saw it.

That's the rub, right? No response = no clue whether there is anything getting through. Not that it matters. Their choice to do anything or nothing at all.

Yup... I feel the same way.

I spent a couple of days getting the data for that 11 page report I submitted. I never received an acknowledgement, a thank you or even a bugger off. No direct response. The mod I gave the report to said the owner saw it and he didn't know that 1 in every 5,000 North American internet users visit collarme.com daily (in 2011). In retrospect, I don't think he ever really saw it.

A year or two later, that mod came back asking for a link to the report saying the owner was ready to see that kind of stuff now. I didn't mention that she had previously told me he already saw it. I simply told the mod the data was now out of date and it was pointless. Honestly, I didn't believe a word the mod said. I figured they she was just hustling me for the commercial porn vendor RSS feeds with my account and passwords I had listed in the report. Seriously, this same mod asked me for a cash loan earlier that year. I kind of figured the owner never even saw my report and the mod used the data from it for her own job security . . . being she often asked the owner for money to help with her bills.

I look at that report and business plan like it was my donation, my payback to CM for all it has done for me. I still think they ought to capitalize on the $16,000.00 a month ad revenue I pointed out they are missing and use some of that money to hire some help with the site. That way they might rescue it's falling rankings.

People ask about the ownership of this site and why things aren't getting fixed. I can't answer for him. In 2011 CollarMe popularity rank was:
United States 1,468
Global Rank 5,844

At the time of this post ranking is:
United States 4,250
Global Rank 13,895

If you look on the home page at Collarspace, you will see they only have one advertizing client left, Alt.com. So now you know why people are asking if "the old gal is dying". I don't think it will die no matter how much neglect it suffers. But t won't enjoy the thriving numbers it once had. I believe that if the site was properly monetized, it would mean more to the owner and perhaps get the attention it deserves so it doesn't fall off the charts into obscurity. See chart:
Collarspace.com tarffic
[image]http://residentsadist.com/pics/csgraph.png[/image]

If the owner doesn't respect this place, why should his volunteers? I just don't think the owner realised how much money he was throwing away by not capitalizing on this website. I gave him a list of 76 advertizes in my report. Now that CollarSpace is crashing in the charts, where did all the traffic go? It went to FetLife and it's making them a pile of cash. See FetLife chart below:
Fetlife.com traffic
[image]http://residentsadist.com/pics/flgraph.png[/image]

Collarspace failings have pushed Fetlife ranks beyond their normal load. They never enjoyed such high rating before. Look at this...
Fetlife.com Global rank 1,977
Fetlife.com United States rank 634

When I see someone throwing money out the window like that, it makes me want to dust off my old dot.coms I have stashed and start up a site that does both what Collarspace and Fetlife do.

What pisses me off about your note here is that I speak imperfectly 5 human languages.
I am close to perfect in 7 computer ones. Cobol, Assembler, Pascal, C, RPG, ABAP, BASIC.
Maybe I forgot one or two.

Now we have this little nerd with no contribution on the subject.

What can you bring to the table that is of any value?

I was trying to point out that you were calling others stupid and commenting on people using spellcheck, when you couldn't tell the difference between 'loose' and 'lose' (despite your extensive knowledge of languages).

To be fair, he did say he speaks them imperfectly. [;)]

Actually I find the software sub par too but in my experience the worse it is the more people focus on what they're actually writing. Imagine this running on kuro5hin or freshmeat. Eeow.

ResidentSadist -> RE: How Stupid are the Admins here? (8/15/2015 10:49:08 PM)

I don't think Kuro5hin (or Freshmeat) is software. I'm pretty sure they are news forums for programmers doing open source development. Well FreshMeat wasn't truly open, they wanted you to join their club and then it was open withing the group. Kuro5hin's voting system was a take off on the Slashdot web. You had to get so many votes to get published. The FreshMeat website is defunct. But Kuro5hin is still up and runs Scoop Forums on a VA Linux system.

As mentioned in an earlier reply, CollarChat is an ASP (Java active server pages) site running PGD Forums on a Microsoft Windows IIS server system.

I was talking about the user experience otherwise I could have mentioned OpenBSD too. Kuro5hin is about programming like this site is about Hillary Clinton.

"Chicks dig UNIX" was my fav T-shirt but I don't understand why you could or would mention OpenBSD? It seems I misunderstood what you meant by "running on kuro5hin" as much as I misunderstand your OpenBSD comment. But I am glad your mentioned K5 because the voting system they used was pretty good. I have always said that CollarChat's simple post count system also promotes trolls to an elevated status in the eyes of a newcomer.

I somehow have the impression that the first version of K5 ran on it. I might be wrong, that was all so long ago ...

I wanted to say that may be a blessing in disguise. Newcomers are overrated. Look at me, I entered a site (actually running Scoop), picked a fight with everyone within sight and ended up with several friendships that have travelled across more than one social media network.
The administrators of that site, however, tried to put a gag on the residents so as not to scare off new people. The end of it was that an award-winning site died of disinterest.
