TV news reporter and cameraman shot and killed during live broadcast in Virginia; suspected shooter live tweets manhunt, posts video of shooting (SHOCKING VIDEO)
A TV news reporter and cameraman were killed Wednesday morning in a shooting captured in a live broadcast, and the gunman remains at large, police said.

The scene of sudden shock and horror at a pedestrian plaza in Moneta, Va. was captured during a routine news story on WDBJ, a station in Roanoke.

"We heard screaming, and then we heard nothing," station manager Jeff Marks said on air while announcing the deaths of reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward.
Also video, apparently of the shooter, videoing himself shooting three people. apparently he is dead now....

theres not enough WTF to go around on this one..

Totally shocked at this. I don't understand how people think at all. This is a sad, sad event.

It seems in his manifesto he murdered these two as revenge for the Charleston murders and picked these two as targets because one went to the HR department with complaints after working with him and the other made racists comment about or to him. .. He is evidently black and gay.

Many blacks refused to believe the Charleston shooter was insane but killed strictly over racism… I wonder what their feeling will be about this man and his sanity and motives.

Myself they are both nuts and neither represents the true feelings of most Americans black or white… but the obvious lack of sanity of either will not stop some from making claims of racism.

Haven't you heard? The Nation of Islam flag and the ISIS flag are not symbols of hate; just poor, misunderstood "freedom fighters". The Junior Varsity team, even.

President Barlett to his staff "When you have the facts in court, argue the facts. When you have the evidence on your side, argue the evidence. When neither the facts nor the evidence are on your side, bang the table so loud that the other guy is not heard!".

Of course they needed to derail things. They do not have a real counter discussion or argument to make.

So long as we have a corrupted version of the 2nd amendment in place; this nation will keep witnessing costly mass shootings. How many mass shootings took place back when the amendment wasn't corrupted? Not even one in two decades! We now average one mass shooting every few days if not weeks. An people always seem surprised by this....

Lucylastic -> RE: TV news reporter and cameraman shot and killed. (8/27/2015 3:33:42 AM)

Aug. 26 is the 238th day of the year. And with the fatal shooting in Virginia today — in which a gunman shot himself after killing two reporters and wounding one more person — plus the shooting of four during a Minneapolis home invasion, the number of mass shooting incidents has risen to 247 for the year.

These numbers are compiled by the moderators of the GunsAreCool subreddit, a sarcastically named community that tracks gun violence in America. They define "mass shooting" as any single incident in which at least four people are shot, including the gunman. The tracker comes in for some criticism because its definition is broader than the FBI's definition, which requires three or more people to be killed by gunfire. But the broader definition is nonetheless a useful one, because it captures many high-profile instances of violence — like the recent Lafayette theater shootings — that don't meet the FBI's criteria.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonkblog/wp/2015/08/26/were-now-averaging-more-than-one-mass-shooting-per-day-in-2015/

Of course it will be poo poo'd by the gun nuts, as its not counting just the dead people. Its counting the number actually shot.....all victims.

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2015/08/23/3694323/mass-shootings-an-exceptionally-american-problem-new-study-concludes/

Over the past fifty years, there have been 90 mass shootings in America. Though it has just five percent of the world’s population, almost one-third of the world’s mass shootings occurred in the United States during that time period.
Those are some of the harrowing takeaways of a new study by Adam Lankford, a criminal justice professor at the University of Alabama. The study, “Mass Shooters, Firearms, and Social Strains: A Global Analysis of an Exceptionally American Problem,” offers the first qualitative analysis of all public mass shootings worldwide between 1966 and 2012.
Lankford used data from the New York City Police Department’s 2012 active shooter report, the FBI’s 2014 active shooter report, and international sources. It omitted gang-related or drive-by shootings, as well as hostage-taking incidents, robberies, and shootings in domestic settings. A public mass shooting can be defined as a shooting that killed at least four victims, according to the FBI’s definition of mass murder.
“It’s a bigger problem today than it was a decade ago and it may be a bigger problem in the future,” Lankford told Newsweek. “There are a lot of questions that people have posed in the past that we didn’t have statistics on or quantitative answers for,” especially when it came to understanding the prevalence of mass shootings in America as compared with other countries.

Lankford examined data from 171 countries and concluded that the United States had the most public mass shooters in the world: 90. That’s five times as many as the Philippines, the next country on the list, which had 18. Of the remaining top five countries, Russia had 15, Yemen 11, and France 10.

The study found that public mass shootings in the U.S. were distinct from those abroad. Mass shooters in America, for example, were more likely to use multiple weapons than shooters abroad. They were also more likely to attack in schools, factories, warehouses, and office buildings than shooters in other countries.

“Given the fact that the United States has over 200 million more firearms in circulation than any other country, it’s not surprising that our public mass shooters would be more likely to arm themselves with multiple weapons than foreign offenders,” Lankford said. “I was surprised, however, that the average number of victims killed by each shooter was actually higher in other countries (8.81 victims) than it was in the United States (6.87 victims) because so many horrific attacks have occurred here.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lankford also found a strong connection between America’s civilian firearm ownership rate and its number of mass shootings. According to the 2007 Small Arms Survey, United States, Yemen, Switzerland, Finland, and Serbia, rank among the top five countries for firearms owned per capita. They are all also ranked in the top 15 countries for public mass shooters per capita.

“My study provides empirical evidence, based on my quantitative assessment of 171 countries, that a nation’s civilian firearm ownership rate is the strongest predictor of its number of public mass shooters,” he concluded. “Until now, everyone was simply speculating about the relationship between firearms and public mass shootings. My study provides empirical evidence of a positive association between the two.”

Thinkprogress? That's your idea of a reliable source? Heh. Here's what Thinkprogress didn't report...

To try to further speculate on the prevalence of mass shootings in the U.S. and to look beyond firearm ownership rates, Lankford turned to his own and others’ previous research to ask: Is there something about American culture that incubates more mass shooters?

"At least one explanation" about violence in the U.S. has suggested that "crime and deviance occur when there’s an unhealthy gap between people’s dreams and aspirations and their ability to reach those dreams," Lankford explains. In the U.S. in particular, he writes, success and fame are idolized. "Everybody is shaped by culture in a way," says Lankford. "Our culture has people reaching for the stars and slipping and falling probably more often."

Public mass shooters - who often make comments or leave behind notes that help explain their motives - frequently cite "blocked goal achievement (such as being expelled from school or fired from work)" or "negative social interactions (such as being bullied by fellow students, coworkers, or supervisors)," according to the paper. Mental illness can distort certain individuals’ perceptions of such strains and exacerbate their inability to deal with them in a non-violent manner.

That school and work represent these grievances as well as the gap between one’s aspirations and ability to fulfill those dreams could explain why American mass shooters are more likely than those in other countries to target schools and workplaces.

"Unfortunately, due to some combination of strains, mental illness, and American idolization of fame, some mass shooters succumb to terrible delusions of grandeur, and seek fame and glory through killing," Lankford writes in his paper. "They accurately recognize that the only way they can guarantee that their names and faces adorn magazines, newspapers, and television is by slaughtering unarmed men, women, or children."

Such was the case with the Columbine High School shooting in 1999, which has inspired copycat shootings in the U.S. and other countries. Lankford cites a 2009 paper by Ralph Larkin that identified school shooters in Argentina, Canada, Finland and Germany who "imitated or referenced the Columbine killers."

Mass shooters may be far more common in the U.S. than in any other country in recent decades, but "in a world that has been made functionally smaller by advances in technology and communications," Lankford writes, "America’s exceptional problem of mass shooters could grow increasingly globalized."

That's from your "More at" link, but you didn't post it. I guess you didn't think it was relevant. Or maybe you didn't even read it, having already heard all you wanted to hear. I hope you won't mind if I take this opportunity to thank the 24/7 media and the posters who keep giving these homicidal excuses for human beings the unending fame and notoriety they seek. I guess if guns are evil, the end justifies the means.

Crazies with guns is a small price to pay when the alternative can be the only people having guns is the government and the population is helpless to assert human rights
