ORIGINAL: epiphiny43 The single best reply to "All lives matter": https://www.reddit.com/comments/3du1qm/ White lives have always mattered. Police lives have always mattered. The message America doesn't want to hear is, Black Lives Matter TOO! I read the article: Yes, I think the phrase 'black lives matter' carries an implicit 'too' on the end. The article uses the example of a kid at the dinner table - and this provoked a little thought in me: "Imagine that you're sitting down to dinner with your family, and while everyone else gets a serving of the meal, you don't get any. So you say "I should get my fair share." And as a direct response to this, your dad corrects you, saying, "everyone should get their fair share." Now, that's a wonderful sentiment -- indeed, everyone should, and that was kinda your point in the first place: that you should be a part of everyone, and you should get your fair share also. However, dad's smart-ass comment just dismissed you and didn't solve the problem that you still haven't gotten any!" My thought was, 'Supposing the dad is used to assuming the kid is speaking from a selfish basis? Suppose that the dad thinks 'this kid's idea of "fairness" is only about "fairness towards him and nobody else"'. Me, I know kids like that. But if there are white people who always assume such selfishness in black people, they *will* tend to hear black people saying 'black lives matter' as '*only* black lives matter' rather than 'black lives matter, *too*'. Frigging hell. Maybe one simple solution really would be to rename the movement 'Black Lives Matter Too'. Lets bring your little sob story home, make it closer to the reality Say your poor starving little baby not getting his fair share is an obvious lie. Turns out he has been stealing the other kids' food, even knifing them. Things of that nature Then your baby pookie starts booing his parents when told everyone deserves their fair share, even kills them Whats your white guilt tell you to do in that situation. Time out in the corner, I suppose
