Another blurb from my home page...

What does everyone think of this? Significant or no brainer?

Thegunnysez -> RE: President renames Mt. McKinley (8/30/2015 3:18:02 PM)

117 years late...better late than not at all.

JVoV -> RE: President renames Mt. McKinley (8/30/2015 6:34:06 PM)

It's good than General Motors has recovered enough to sponsor a mountain. (joke)

MrRodgers -> RE: President renames Mt. McKinley (8/30/2015 6:55:12 PM)

Given that the mountain was 'named' by a local prospector and only because apparently, after hearing that McKinley was running for pres. and without regard to the native people who lived there, it is a no brainer.

KenDckey -> RE: President renames Mt. McKinley (8/30/2015 7:07:33 PM)

wonder when he is going to rename the superstition mountains Wi:kchsawa

and the grand canyon Ongtupqa

Everything had a different name before white men "discovered" it. Does that mean that it is a no-brainer to change everything? Your right, it is a no-brainer, as in only a person without a brain would think it made sense.

KenDckey -> RE: President renames Mt. McKinley (8/30/2015 8:50:44 PM)

Actually it is simple, if we move everything back to it's original name we call everything ugh.

Try catching a plane to New Amsterdam.

Well, I suppose they can call it whatever they want, but I was a bit surprised to find out from the Wiki article on Denali is that the mountain isn't as tall as originally thought.

quote:

In September 2013, Alaska's government announced the mountain is 20,237 feet (6,168 m) tall and not 20,320 feet (6,194 m) as measured in 1952 using photogrammetry. The Statewide Digital Mapping Initiative, in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey, said the more accurate height was 83 feet (25 m) lower using measurements from a 2012 survey that used Interferometric synthetic aperture radar.[8] The new height was accepted by the U.S. Geological Survey and is now part of its National Elevation Dataset.[9] In 2015, following the lead of the state of Alaska, the United States government announced the mountain would be renamed from Mount McKinley, for former President William McKinley, to its original Athabascan name of Denali.

It's still the highest peak in North America.

If a non white person discovers you and names you something other than your name I am sure you would prefer the new name to your original name because the one who discovered you is ethically and intellectually more capable of discerning your true nature than you or your progenators.

FR How fast would these Obama supporters change their tune if a Republican President decided to change the names of every Martin Luther King public place to Ronald Reagan?

Obama's a stupid fucknut of a man

Have they done that. Did they change the name to Mt. Jimmy Carter?

You seem to have a real dislike for black people...why is that?

Sounds like making a mountain out of a molehill to me - in a manner of speaking. It's still a rock and fairly solid, unlike the economy.

Whatever the name is, I'm sure folks will be able to find it via Map Quest if they want to climb it. There are bigger fish to fry. As to changing
other names.. whatever. There's usually a Starbucks within walking distance so I don't care about it. Once they started changing the names of
football stadiums, everything was shot to hell anyway. I don't care what other people used to call Candlestick Park.. to 'me' it will always be The Stick regardless of whatever name is on it now. The only difference between the two parties is that a republican would probably have named the
damn mountain either Pepsi Peak or maybe Mountain Dew (that would be funny.. lol)

No a Republican would have left it alone.
But a Republican wouldn't want to erase anything to do with straight white people.

Does anyone know the original name of the swamp that DC was built upon?
