Kirata -> RE: An now jailed! (9/10/2015 4:46:43 PM)

From the (now missing) post you were responding to:

Well, I'm not fond of any of the variations of that sort of "filled with the Holy Spirit" look.

Do you go for that 'All the weight is off my shoulders because I have God' look yourself, K? Do you actually admire the wonderful certainty that someone like Kim Davis has, as a result of the firm belief in her religion? I mean, most of us, I think, are saddled with fundamental doubt about things - a necessary consequence of adopting reason as the 'ultimate authority'. Is that not for you - and do you, yourself, prefer something other than reason as your ultimate authority, as it were?

I have no idea how you got from there to that, but reason is a whore who will spread her legs for any premise. I prefer to direct my concern first to the premises. The quality of reason that follows is irrelevant if they are questionable or false.

K.

PeonForHer -> RE: An now jailed! (9/10/2015 4:48:42 PM)

So ... does that mean you support Kim Davis's position here, then, K?

Musicmystery -> RE: An now jailed! (9/10/2015 4:53:24 PM)

OMG. Read it slowly. You aren't even close.

PeonForHer -> RE: An now jailed! (9/10/2015 4:54:34 PM)

... I mean, it seems to me that religion is whore that'll spread her legs for any old shitty prejudice that comes along. Do you hold a different view of religion yourself, K? Would religion, for you, be a solid and reliable counter to 'reason that opens its legs for anything'? if so, how would that work?

Or would you err on the side of believing, as indeed do I, that religion is actually an excellent way of justifying any old nasty, stupid and brainless prejudice - like that of Kim Davis, regarding homosexuals?

ETA: And, re the present topic - do you actually support Kim Davis's position? In fact would you go further and say that you actually admire it?

What's your position on all this, K, if you wouldn't mind saying?

I don't mind saying. Do you mind actually reading the thread?

K.

Could you explain it then, MM? I always do seem to have trouble following K's points.

Musicmystery -> RE: An now jailed! (9/10/2015 4:57:23 PM)

I'm not paid to be your teacher. You posit a number of premises about Kirata, got called on it, and chose a completely unrelated conclusion.

If that need to be explained, you need a tutor.

No, I asked a few questions of Kirata and didn't get an answer. I made no conclusion - as you will see if you can bring yourself to read the thread. If you're not capable of answering yourself, old boy, then you'd best stay silent, mmh?

Pfft. In all seriousness it's a piece of cake. Click the camera at just the right time and the subject's eyes will be half-closed as he/she blinks - presto, the subject's having an orgasm.

As I noted in my Kim Davis thread, more than two months went by between the SCOTUS decision (6/26) and Davis's going to jail (9/3).

In all that time, she really couldn't come up with a workaround that would allow citizens to exercise their legal rights while keeping her "conscience" pure?!

After all, her deputies managed to do so the first morning she was out of their hair.

I'm starting to wonder if Davis (abetted by her high-octane counsel) was seeking media martyrdom.

If all of the couple's in her county that wanted a license have already gotten theirs, then there's not likely to be any test of the judge's orders for Davis anytime soon.

thompsonx -> RE: An now jailed! (9/11/2015 4:36:07 AM)

So we are good then???I will receive an automated email within say ten minutes or so of your demise?

There's little doubt (at least in my mind) that media martyrdom would hold a certain appeal to some religious types. The whole idea is not that far removed from other forms of martyrdom fashionable in other circles around the globe.

In the Catholic school that I survived, we were taught that to die a martyr's death for the Faith was the most noble and blessed way to go. It guaranteed entry into Heaven, the status of sainthood and that one's life and family would be revered for generations by the faithful. It's not that much of a jump from that to other forms of martyrdom currently fashionable in other religions and conflicts around the globe.

Anyways Ms Davis has had her 15 minutes and the only things between that and the permanent obscurity she so richly deserves might be the book deal, the film rights and the inevitable musical ..... I dread to think of how atrocious the music and lyrics are bound to be
