so you have a definition of feminism ... why not share it with us?

As I said, what feminists do is what feminism is. Either the good or bad. I bet you have no problem claiming it's "feminism" when women got granted the right to vote. People only seem to have a problem of claiming something is feminism when its from something negative.

The movement for women's voting rights was suffragism. It was never called feminism; suffragettes didn't coin the term feminist.

Amazing, that you of all people don't consider women winning the right to vote as being 'something negative.' I'm too speechless to comment further. [X(]

Dreamlady, so voting rights for women have nothing to do with feminism? Rightio. Plenty of feminists/SJWs out there will bring up voting rights to claim the good of feminism when the conversation demands it.

Really? Looks around...it seems that you are the only one who is saying that.

Let's see, I am a feminist, so whatever I do is what feminism is. I try to avoid nightshade in my diet. Therefore, feminists avoid night shades.

Lucy is a feminist. Therefore Lucy does not eat tomatoes, potatoes, or eggplant.

Well the logic is impeccable.

Lucylastic -> RE: The Man-Shaming Project (10/31/2015 1:30:24 AM)

Lucy is a feminist.
Lucy was a stay at home mom
All feminists are stay at home moms.
But Lucy doesnt like egg plant... so ...noo feminist likes eggplant!!!
(Winks at Aylee)

Lucy the fannyfartzi also doesn't understand the difference between claiming all feminists are X compared to claiming something negative is a part of feminism.

I will expect what I say next to go completely over your head. I don't care what debate team says what.
It's a matter of simple statistical economics, which actually ties back into addressing the social imbalance that ensued with the emancipation of the slaves, in the eyes of white male Heads of Households.

Here is the sequence of events.
Pre-Emancipation: Adult white males have the right to vote.
Emancipation: Suddenly black males have a voice in the voting process.
This leaves out adult females entirely.
Adult white females outnumber the adult minority (black) populace.

Who stood the MOST to gain, by "giving" ALL women the right the vote?
It was the white male HOHs, who pompously believed that they could sway their wives and adult female dependents to vote "their" way.

That, my fellow, is the only reason that the suffragette movement ultimately succeeded, despite vehement opposition at its inception.

As in much of life, Follow The Money (e.g., who stands to gain).

What part of feminism isn't about shaming men when they talk about men? Male feminists must have a kink for self flagellation as no news about men is good news when it comes to feminism. Being a male is pretty much illegal in feminist logic. We must think and act like women when it comes to sex and everyday life or else we are oppressors.

All the shaming being done to men seems to be self inflicted.....Doing something you know is wrong a thousand times, doesn't make it right the 1001 time.....

But we did claim something negative as part of feminism. The NOT eating of eggplant.

If we consumed mass quantities of eggplant, we would be Coneheads instead of feminists.

It is really quite simple.

dreamlady, this isn't about what actually happened with voting, don't bore me to death with that. I am just pointing out that feminists will claim such that women got the vote because of feminism. Not all feminists of course. Any positive gain women have made, many feminists will have no problem to claim that its feminism that made the positive change.

This might be a hard fact for a sad little boy like you to grasp, but the people who believe in something other than that pesky definition, aren't feminists.

Stef, you are in no position to say what is and isn't a feminist. It's what people do behind feminism is what feminism is.

If you really knew the extent of "stef" extra accounts, you might recognize the futility in seeking a reasonable reply from her.... soon she could be attacking you, hoping to get you to insult her and than click she reports you to a moderator....

good luck with this conversation, you are going to need it....lol

Only those without multiple accounts really worry about those with them.... to me a reply is just a reply...... SO REMEMBER

IF you don't mind it don't matter lol.... it is more correct to use multiple accounts and unfortunately for everyone they're allowed...... thank you COLLARSPACE for
saying your goal is to foster communication, when in fact you create TOS that allow for everything else but that....

OP, you opened the door. Doesn't mean you get to close it. . . unless you want to start acting like a gentleman, that is. [8D]

You should be so lucky as to have me bore you to death. <mutters under breath>

If you were actually interested in carrying on a dialogue, you would define what you mean when you throw out ill-defined terms you employ while casting out your aspersions.
You've been asked several times for clarification.

Btw, I see your bromance with Sargon is still going strong. Longest meaningful relationship you've ever had?

MercTech -> RE: The Man-Shaming Project (10/31/2015 2:25:37 PM)

Just thinking back. I think the first time I heard the term "feminist" was around 1972-1973. That was around when the National Organization of Women started pushing the campaign for the "Equal Rights Amendment".

After talking with some people who actually were at the convention in 1970; the whole thing about the ERA started to make more sense. The original thrust of the NOW was proposed to bring a class action suit basically stating that "men" as used in the Constitution is a generic term for all mankind so all rights and protections extend to women as well. A very vocal minority pushed through a proposal for a constitutional amendment as that would more high profile and in the public eye rather than an action through the courts.
I think the vocal man-bashing by so many of what we would call "Social Justice Warriors" today hurt the ERA movement much more than anything misogynistic old white men could ever have done.
