Austrians are arming themselves at record rates in an effort to defend their households against feared attacks from Muslim invaders.

Tens of thousands of Muslim “refugees” have poured into Austria from Hungary and Slovenia in recent months on their way to Germany and Sweden, two wealthy European countries that have laid out the welcome mat for migrants. More than a million will end up in Germany alone by the end of this year, according to estimates from the German government.

Obtaining a working firearm and ammunition in Germany, Britain, Denmark and the Netherlands is practically impossible for the average citizen. Germany, for instance, requires a psychological evaluation, the purchase of liability insurance and verifiable compliance with strict firearms storage and safety rules. And self-defense is not even a valid reason to purchase a gun in these countries.

The laws in Austria, while still strict, are a bit less overbearing.

A Czech TV report confirms that long guns – shotguns and rifles – have been flying off the shelves in Austria, and Austrians who haven’t already purchased a gun may not have a chance to get one for some time. They’re all sold out.

And those arming themselves are primarily women.

He cites the Austrian news outlet Trioler Tageszeitung as the source of his report.

“We cannot complain about lack of demand,” Stephen Mayer, a gun merchant, told Trioler Tageszeitung.

He claims the stock has been sold out for the last three weeks and that demand is being fueled by fears generated by social changes.

“People want to protect themselves,” Mayer said. “Nonetheless, the most common purchasers of arms are primarily Austrian women.”

They are also buying pepper sprays, which Mayer said are in big demand among those who can’t get a gun.

Alan Gottlieb, executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, said he recently returned from a gun rights event in Europe, where he sensed a change in attitude toward firearms.

“I just returned from a gun rights meeting in Belgium, and I can attest that all over Europe people now want the means to defend themselves,” Gottlieb told WND. “Self-defense is no longer a dirty word. In countries like Austria, where it is still legal to own a firearm, gun sales are at record levels. I can tell you first-hand that people in Europe now wish they had a Second Amendment.”

your "czech tv" is a notorious neonazi site

Czech Television is a member of the European Broadcasting Union, which audited CT's standards in January 2015:

The public media organisations in the EBU are currently the most trustworthy sources of information in their countries and reach more than 90% of the European population... The team of international auditors assessed the development of universality, independence, uniqueness, diversity, responsibility and innovation of public service of Czech Television, based on specific results, projects and activities. ~European Broadcasting Union

From the report:

The CT group is an independent public service television. Its Director General (DG) is appointed by the Czech Television Council, which is nominated by parliament. Editorial content and decisions are separate from the business decision-making process. News is processed by professionals and according to international standards. The high level of trust in CT news shows that Czech audiences value the efforts made by the CT group to develop high-quality, politically balanced, and accurate news programmes. ~EBU Audit Findings

Well if you need an American to help you figure it out, okay. I understand. But focus now. The WND story is based on a Czech TV news report. Got that? There are two hidden clues to this: The first is the story's repeated references to the Czech TV news report, and the second is the link to it at the bottom of the piece. Did you think blnymph pulled Czech TV out of her hat?

Yes.

If you haven't read it already, "Glock: The Rise of America's Gun" was an interesting read.

EDIT: Google has the first few chapters freely available if you'd like.

God, K, when you go for pompous, you *really* go for it.

In answer to your question: No, I thought blnymph pulled 'czech tv' from lovmuffin's original excerpt.
'Czech TV' could refer to a TV company, as you clearly assumed, or it could refer to 'TV in the Czech Republic'. My guess is blynymph was talking about the latter, though - hinted at by the fact that she referred to 'czech tv' without capital letters.

And the site that she refers to as 'neonazi' I believed to be the WND site, based in the USA. From Wikipedia, this is a WorldNetDaily (WND), 'a politically conservative American web site. It was founded in May 1997 by Joseph Farah with the stated intent of "exposing wrongdoing, corruption and abuse of power". WND has been active in promoting a number of conspiracy theories, including Barack Obama citizenship conspiracy theories.'

This is a pretty good translation about the gun laws in Austria, they are - for European standards - very relaxed, compared to the US, they are pretty strict

https://rdns.im/gun-laws-in-austria

Now some gun nut reporting from a conference for fellow gun nuts that more people want guns, yeah I take that with a grain of salt, I mean if you go to a BDSM event, how likely are you to find people who want BDSM? Will you find people that are into equestrian sports at an event for equestrian sports?

I'm fairly often in Austria, I have yet to see the "Islamic invasion", if somebody is taking about the Syrians, they are hardly noticable, especially not in areas where the people tend to be darker (a lot of Austria borders on to Italy, Slovenia and Hungary, so you find more dark haired, skinned and eyed people), they dress very Western, they are highly educated, the paranoia people seem to want is just missing.

Because Europe tends to keep religion out of governments, we also don't seem to get manic Christians trying to kill doctors who perform abortions, due to the regulation of fire arms, you don't tend to hear all that often about the one nutcase with an arsenal of automatic weapons going on a killing spree in a cinema or a school or toddlers shooting parents or other kids...

Funny how that works....

Just for the heck of it I called the Austrian embassy in London, embassies have all the info from the government and chambers of commerce.

Been transferred around a bit and ended with a very nice lady, oddly enough gun sales aren't up in Austria, they are aware of the propaganda and said it happens from time to time, tend to be groups with their own agenda who never bother checking with offical channels or verify their claims beyond giving a cherry picked individual who's agenda seems to mesh with theirs.

Interesting enough there was a slight increase of crime since a lot of refugees were admitted, however that increase came from militant right winged groups (neonazis) and not from the refugees.

Funny how a bit of research can clear things up, I would recommend to call the embassy or consulate to check for yourself, Austria seems to have one in every country of the world, you can also email them. They are quite forthcoming with information and don't like to have their reputation smeared by gun peddlers.

from a research methods perspective, im pretty skeptical there is a way an embassy worker in London has the answers to those questions, even taking into account your "embassies have all the info from the government and chambers of commerce."

so far it seems to me the best source are the gun merchants in Austria, cited in the report. that's really not "cherry picking"---that's going to the horse's mouth.

also, on its face, isn't it a bit naïve or absurd to think that tens of thousands of people could be "pouring" through a particular place and not have the crime rate be affected directly by them.
