Georgia sheriff installs 'politically incorrect' welcome sign

[image]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CUpwUcJWcAEQM0p.jpg[/image]

According to WLTZ-TV, Sheriff Mike Jolley of Harris County, Ga., put up the new welcome sign outside the sheriff's office in Hamilton, Ga.

The sign reads:

"Welcome to Harris County, Georgia! WARNING: Harris County is politically incorrect. We say: Merry Christmas, God Bless America and In God We Trust; We salute our troops and our flag. If this offends you… LEAVE!"

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2015/11/25/georgia-sheriff-installs-politically-incorrect-welcome-sign/76362266/

Well, that's a new spin on "Southern hospitality."

It's funny: For all we hear about out-of-control "political correctness," I've come across lots of whining about "Happy Holidays" and none at all about "Merry Christmas."

N.B. The article specifies that the sheriff used his own money to pay for the sign.

SO there is a sheriff in Georgia whom is an idiot?

The only people that have a serious problem with 'politically correctness' seem to be those that do not understand when and when not to use it. Its like being professional. There is a time to be a keystone cop, and a time to be a paid law enforcement official. That this idiot can not figure that out, should inform those around him to seek a new sheriff!

It's a pretty big leap to go from that sign to Jim Crow. The article!e was also quite exaggerated all the way through.

I don't know if I'd have pushed it to 'Jim Crow' either, tbh. I think I'd have just said 'silly old fart' and left it at that.

Greta75 -> RE: Georgia sheriff installs 'politically incorrect' welcome sign (11/26/2015 7:24:40 AM)

I think it's absolutely intolerance to not be able to say Merry Christmas. In my country, we celebrate every religion's special day, regardless which religion it is. I mean, all of you probably know how I dislike Islam, but I wish them Happy Hari Raya! And don't mind that we put up Happy Hari Raya everywhere in the malls, in our apartments, we celebrate every religion and every race special day! So if it's Christmas, we sure hell are gonna put "Merry Christmas" signs everywhere! Even if we aren't Christians!

These are are peaceful things, that should be embraced! It's one of the rare peaceful celebrations of Islam, where, they are celebrating the ending of their fast. Christmas is also a peaceful event.

I just don't even understand the whole concept of bothering to get offended with peaceful events.

Is there any evidence that this has actually happened, Greta? It's just that so many sources say that it was one of those great internet myths cooked up out of nothing then blindly retailed over and again by the sort of berk who is never happier than when he's 'found' a new 'reason' to go around quacking about 'political correctness gone mad'.

Lucylastic -> RE: Georgia sheriff installs 'politically incorrect' welcome sign (11/26/2015 7:43:45 AM)

there was an amusing one going around the other day about Obama supposedly telling troops they cant say merry christmas.
of course it was put out by breitbart and infowars and several other bullshit sources, but snopes was pretty quick to deem it falser than trumps hair.

From what I understand, in many places in the west, it's no longer acceptable to decorate places with Merry Christmas signs! Instead now replaced with "Happy Holidays" to be neutral. Even starbucks stopped posting Merry Christmas on their sleeves for their cups.

For us, every single race and religion occasion. We put up their greeting signs everywhere!

Everyone with traditional values is an idiot ? I am not a Christian at all, but if someone says merry Christmas to me I say "Same to you". Christmas is a chosen, defined national holiday. It is not the real date even, some Pope chose it to appease the "heathens" they were trying to "save".

And figuring it out ? Nobody can figure it out because it makes no sense. If this keeps up it will be politically incorrect to flunk a kid on a test for getting the answers wrong. Bias against those lacking knowledge. That is what gets the politically correct out of trouble because they try to make everything a fucking insult. If I say for example that YOU are too dumb to know how to tie your shoes you might take offense but you know what ? I CAN PROVE IT.

https://www.ted.com/talks/terry_moore_how_to_tie_your_shoes?language=en

DEATH TO POLITICAL CORRECTNESS ! I will never be politically correct. I will avoid racial slurs but that is about it. That's like calling a guy with a limp a gimp. Actually that last sentence could be politically incorrect but there is no other way to really express it. If I thought about it, maybe. Like calling a bald guy "Curly" ?

Yeah, when not to apply political correctness, that would be 100 % of the time. And BTW, you tell them people to go look for a new sheriff I bet they tell you to leave. This is what people do not understand. That guy, and people like Joe Arpiao(sp) in Arizona, they have tremendous popular support. I bet it sticks in your craw that there are so many republican governors in the states. Well that is because the People want it.

All the liberal lies do not appear well on y'all. Like red states getting more money back from what the feds extorted from their people. That is bullshit because those figures include social security retirement benefits and alot of retirees like to live in those states because they are a nice place to live. What's more, by one of the standard metrics, if they are really getting more for infrastructure that means either their congressmen are doing a good job or there is something located in that state that is in the fed''s best interest to support. It is not fucking welfare.

I am not saying republicans are honest, I would NEVER say that. But neither are democrats and liberals. I am not mentioning conservatives because we have none. A half a fucking trillion military budget is not conservative. Real conservative means back even before Bunce and Crockett and "Not Yours To Give", it goes back to the founders warning about complex foreign entanglements and their wish to be fairly separatist.

And now "separatist" is a bad word, and if you happen to be White and are a separatist, now the connotation is bigot. So in the spirit of political correctness I demand that nobody ever call anyone a separatist.

See where it can go ?

And those red states, know why there are so many retirees there ? Because they are old and are no longer liberal. Like the kid sees a bum. Wants to give him money. Dad says OK, you can go and work on this and that and when you get done I will give the bum the money you earned. Then the kid says "Why doesn't he just do the work then and you can pay him ?". The Dad smiles knowing that his kid just went from being liberal to normal. (like I said, we have no conservatives)

Anyway, people who are cogs in the liberal machine that is going to turn this country into what it was formed to get away from should move to places like Australia, where they are glad to have given up their guns. (they must be putting something in the water)

People who doubt that the phrase "Merry Christmas" is not discouraged apparently do not work at certain places. All over the internet there are examples, even scans of company memos.

In fact one of them told the employees to not use the phrase "brown bag". That means to take your own lunch to work instead of going to McHeartattack. But it saves money, maybe that is what makes it politically correct, McD's started that shit I bet !

Can't have it where someone bitches about the ten bucks the had to pay for their Strokeburger and have anyone respond with "Maybe you should brown bag it".

That was Seattle. Possibly some college campuses as well. Because there used to be a "brown paper bag test." Of course that had nothing to do with bringing a lunch from home.

Of course, now if your lunch has "non white" (whatever white food is) in it, you are appropriating someone's culture. Sigh.

i saw this, and Lucy's more or less "incredulous" post asking for evidence. while i don't particularly like the phrase "war" on anything, so im not going to say "war on Christmas", evidence abounds all over the country as to "merry Christmas" being frowned on, an impetus to lose one's job, and being outright prohibited (and not just "merry christmas" but Christmas period) in public schools. heck even things that are green and red are verboten in some places.

as to the sheriff specifically, its enough that he is commenting generally on the "politically/religiously correct" state of the nation.

i suppose i could look some things up, but an earnest internet search by anyone would get you to what im talking about pretty quickly.
