I have complete contempt for Hezbollah and the countries that support and allow them to continue their rain of hatred. Israel is protecting itself plain and simple. This fight will continue. If this is not the start of  World War III then it very soon will be. I too feel sorry for the innocent victims of this world that always get caught in the cross fire. But, there is a much bigger issue at hand here. These Arab nations want Israel driven into the sea and they will NEVER stop wanting that. I pray for Israel and I pray for peace.

And I understand why they want to drive Israel into the sea. I just don't think that's the way to go, no more than I think we in America should give land back to the native Americans. You have to draw a line somewhere.

Furthermore, I wonder if we quit occupying Iraq, bossing Iran around, stopped supporting Israel, and packed our military bases out of Saudi Arabia if terrorists would quit attacking us? I bet you they would, and your argument has about as much merit as the one I just posited

FYI, the US closed all its military bases in Saudi Arabia in 2002.

As for the rest of your argument, I think you should ask the Danes and the Canadians and the residents of Bali and the Spaniards and all the rest how your strategy's working out for them.

Why does one have to be pro Hezzbollah not to like giving money to a so-called demomcratic government that has a religious symbol on their flag? I have the right not to like my tax dollars used to bulldoze people out of their homes. I have the right not to like my tax dollars used to bomb Lebanon...

Furthermore, I wonder if we quit occupying Iraq, bossing Iran around, stopped supporting Israel, and packed our military bases out of Saudi Arabia if terrorists would quit attacking us? I bet you they would, and your argument has about as much merit as the one I just posited

Julia.. They did attack us when all of your criteria were being met, except the supporting of Israel. I am of course referring to 9/11  AND   the USS Cole and all the other ones that were cast upon us in the 80-90s. 9/11 was not an isolated incident, it was just the most catostrophic. Before we went into Iraq, we were promised more of the same. So you may want to quit wondering.. we were told and forwarned. <Just an FYI, I am not a supporter of the war in Iraq.>

I wasn't making an arguement, I was stating my opinion.

You do not have to like it, you do not have to accept it. That is your perogative.

As for being pro Hezzbollah because you resent sending your tax dollars to Israel, that is not what I was referring to. I was referring to the current war Hezzbollah and Israel are involved in. I came in late in the thread and was addressing what I thought the OP asked.

                    mbmbn

edited to add.. i missed your reference to the military bases in Saudi. But I do not think we were there against the will of the Saudi government. I could be wrong, I am sure some one will correct me If I am.

What do you think about what is happening in that region?

Master96,

"Until the Arabs can join together and stop fighting, they will always be a little people, a silly people, murderous and barbarous and cruel."

T.E. Lawrence

Although Im not sure it was helped much by the allied powers after WW2 invading, establish the country of Isreal, heavily arming them, providing them money and support and the like, and turning a blind eye while they picked fights with their neighbors and inflict atrocities on the Palestineans, which, while not as extensive as those inflicted on the Jewish people in WW2, seem to me to lie somewhere on that same slippery slope.

I think the whole region is a huge mess.  Im not sure what the solution is, and I really dont think anybody has a clue what that might be.  The only reason the rest of the planet pays any attention to them at all is because the region sits on vast oil reserves which provide power for the rest of the planet.

And if you dont agree with me, ever wonder why nobody has covered what Pakistan looks like now that winter has ended after the earthquake destroyed huge sections of the country?  If there was oil there it would be All Pakistan, All The Time on CNN.

Just me, could be wrong, etc.

I actually agree with what Bush said about Isreal when he thought his mic was turned off the other day....he said, "They need to cut that shit out!" (and I think Bush is a moron but he couldn't have said it any better than how I feel about the total situation!)

Perhaps the big ticket item in the objections of the terrorists is the presence of Isreal?

I personally have nothing against Isreal per se.  I find their behavior and treatment of their neighbors and the people who live in their country reprehensible.

Just me, could be wrong, etc.

"Stop bossing Iran around..."

Julia, much of the world is "bossing" them around due to the fact that their leader wants Israel wiped off the face of the earth, and they are aggresively pursuing nuclear weapons. Add 1 and 1 and you may get kaboom.

That's part of it, but it isn't the whole thing.  It's amazing to me that people are still speculating about this, as if it's some big mystery why AQ is so hostile.  It's no mystery.  They've said why they're carrying out these attacks and what their agenda is numerous times.  Bin Laden and Zawahiri kicked it off with a fax to a London newspaper, in 1998, IIRC.

The problem is no one seems to want to take them at their word.

Like I said, Level.... I wish I had the answers.

Again I point to Hezzbollah. The "peace process" < using that term very loosely> between the Palestinians and Israelis has been fragile at best. Hamas and the radical factions in Palestine are obviouly aligning themselves with Hezzbollah. While the average Palestinian  must be torn between their allegience to their Arab brothers, yet want to live in Palestine and get back what was taken from them.

Maybe I should use the very small steps that have been taken towards the Palestinians have been fragile at best. But whatever progress was made is certainly shattered now.

I still have hope, mbmbn. [8|] Many of the Lebanese and Palestinian people want nothing but peace, and a chance at a decent life; but man oh man, it's going to take a lot of work to get there.

I still find it hard to understand how Israel explains itself, when the Jews own Torah seems to expressly forbid the setting up of the state until Jews are led there by God.  It seems to me that the Zionists simply bypassed their own religion, defied God and just accepted the land with open arms.  As I understand the Torah, Jews are supposed to live under the umbrella of other states until God leads them back into Israel, not just walk in and start bulldozing.

Hello irishbynature,

You agree with that Bush said.

What exactly does the sentence "They need to know that shit out" actually mean?

"Need" I can understand.

But how does one "know shit" and more importantly, how does one "know shit" in an outward direction?

I apologize, I must have lost my MonkeyBoy to English decoder ring, and I suspect the book "The Bush Dyslexicon" wont be much help.

Just me, etc.

I don't think he was talking about Israel. He meant Syria.

Then maybe Isreal needs to "Cut that shit out!" (Like our Fearless Chimp in Charge said recently?) *Grins*

irishbynature -> RE: Middle East, (7/19/2006 7:19:46 PM)

I get so frustrated when others don't see Isreal's fault in this situation. (Blows hair outta my face and gives up on this topic). PS. Russia and China won't even back them on this one....and it appears, neither will the USA or the UK.

All they seem to know is war. If you take their wars away.. what WILL they do?

Hopefully get educated and move towards the same century as the rest of us. However that would mean possibly freeing their women and I don't think they are ready to give up on that. I mean they've kept them underboot for so long it would be difficult for them to come to terms with YES women have intelligence and are useful wonderful equal human beings.
