They took this word and adopted it as a moniker of their own. Even built successful stage shows around it such as "Wogs out of Work".

Words aren't the issue. They're a means to convey an attitude. I'm not calling Milo Yiannopolous a faggot with all of the historical negative connotations that word has had. I'm referring to him by his chosen moniker.

And this is the lesson that left-wing, politically correct fucktards need to learn. Policing speech doesn't police attitudes. Words only have the power which WE give them. And when a gay man adopts the moniker "Dangerous faggot", I think it's a ballsy move that should be celebrated. Not hidden under the carpet because morons are afraid of words.

Holy Crap!! Look at the Wiki entry!

I knew it was once used when speaking of a torch made with a bundle of sticks. I also thought (mistakenly, but close) it was used to refer to a cigarette. I didn't know there were so many different uses outside of the aforementioned 2, and the gender orientation slur.
