WALK ON BY.....

Great song, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. I didn't realize it (considering so many musicians dropping like flies lately), but Burt Bacharach is still alive, at the age of 87. Go, Burt, Go! He's outlived them all.

Dionne Warwick made some great music, including a great single with The Spinners ("Then Came You"). She was also in an episode (with Isaac Hayes) of The Rockfish Files. Hayes' Theme From Shaft might be considered somewhat political.

For The Love of Money by the O'Jays

Love Train (also by the O'Jays)

Livin' For the City (Stevie Wonder)

Save the Country (The Fifth Dimension)

Come on, people, come on, children
Come on down to the glory river.
Gonna wash you up, and wash you down,
Gonna lay the devil down, gonna lay that devil down.
I got fury in my soul, fury's gonna take me to the glory goal
In my mind I can't study war no more.
Save the people, save the children, save the country now

Messages in music is intellectual masturbation. It has the appearance of depth when all it really does is make the artist feel good about himself.

Yeah, I suppose the same could be said about any art form.

Here's a scene from The Munsters which sort of captures the entire essence of the 1960s, at least from a certain point of view.

Ah, then maybe Rage Against The Machine might be your thing:

This time the bullet cold rocked ya
A yellow ribbon instead of a swastika
Nothin' proper about ya propaganda
Fools follow rules when the set commands ya
Said it was blue
When ya blood was read
That's how ya got a bullet blasted through ya head

Blasted through ya head
Blasted through ya head

I give a shout out to the living dead
Who stood and watched as the feds cold centralized
So serene on the screen
You were mesmerised
Cellular phones soundin' a death tone
Corporations cold
Turn ya to stone before ya realize
They load the clip in omnicolor
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fuckas lost their minds

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Run it!

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Checka, checka, check it out
They load the clip in omnicolor
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fuckas lost their minds

No escape from the mass mind rape
Play it again jack and then rewind the tape
And then play it again and again and again
Until ya mind is locked in
Believin' all the lies that they're tellin' ya
Buyin' all the products that they're sellin' ya
They say jump and ya say how high
Ya brain-dead
Ya gotta fuckin' bullet in ya head

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Uggh! Yeah! Yea!

Ya standin' in line
Believin' the lies
Ya bowin' down to the flag
Ya gotta bullet in ya head

Ya standin' in line
Believin' the lies
Ya bowin' down to the flag
Ya gotta bullet in ya head

A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
Ya gotta bullet in ya fuckin' head!

Now, that's some political music.

Ah, so basically - you're worshiping me.

That's perfectly understandable.

Where were you in the US? Most of it isn't like that.

In 1993, we covered Hawaii, Las Vegas, LA, SF, SD. I remembered seeing nude beaches in Hawaii and it was seriously nude. That's an unusual thing for me. Las Vegas, SF and SD at that time felt safer than LA somehow. I also remembered Hollywood looked slummy surprisingly back then considering it's one of those more touristy areas. Maybe it's fancy up now.

Lol!! Why does every pro-america song shown so far gotta be pro-hillbillies?

It's like saying the real america is the jesusland in the south!

Just for you Greta. Since you say "pro America" and not necessarily political here are just a few rock tunes from way back to not so far back. There are also a lot of heavy metal and rap "pro America" songs, as well as more classic rock and "oldies" rock.

Aint That America.....John Mellencamp
R.O.C.K in the U.S.A......John Mellencamp
Born in the USA .....Bruce Springsteen
Rockin in the Free World.....Neil Young
Citizen Soldier.....3 Doors Down
The Star Spangled Banner.....Jimi Hendrix (Metallica has a similar version)
Red White and Blue.....Lynyrd Skynyrd
Rockin' in the USA.....Kiss
Warrior.....Kid Rock
Livin' in the US.....Steve Miller Band
Back in the USA .....Chuck Berry

Thanks!! I personally am not a fan of country.

So many stuffs to go through but I had a hard time with listening to the country stuffs, as it's just a style of music that I never appreciated.

I have mentioned I have watched Forrest Gump and I don't see it as a political movie, but a bumbling low IQ man, with a good heart trying to make it in this world.

Hair, not yet have time to look it up.

I don't know what you mean by "political" or "not political"---among other things, the movie presents forrest who is drafted and goes to Vietnam, and jenny, who becomes a drug using hippy who protests the war, yet they have an enduring love for each other that transcend those life experience differences.

also, the movie is full of music (the point of the thread) that highlights and speaks to those difference.
