NC GOP AG Candidate Tells HB2 Fans: 'Keep Our State Straight!' (VIDEO)

No beating around the bush by the Republican nominee for attorney general in North Carolina: The state's new anti-LGBT law is about keeping North Carolina "straight."

During a Monday rally in the state capital Raleigh with supporters of the law that keeps transgender people from using the public bathroom of their choice, state Sen. Buck Newton, the GOP nominee for attorney general, strayed from the typical conservative talking points about public safety.

"Go home, tell your friends and family who had to work today what this is all about and how hard we must fight to keep our state straight," Newton told attendees at the rally, according to a video posted by Progress North Carolina Action.

Newton made the comments at a rally with other Republican state lawmakers for those support the new law in Raleigh.

"We all know that the folks that wave the rainbow flags and things like that are politically very upset about the way things are today. They’re upsets about the way things have always been in this state," he said earlier in his remarks. "And they're bound and determined to try to change it, whether it’s by winning elections in the city of Charlotte on their city council or whether it’s wining elections in November in the General Assembly or whether it’s winning elections in November for our governor."

The state senator also said that the law was aimed at protecting women from predators in bathrooms, the talking point conservatives have used to justify the law.

"Now it's been said that there are many, many, many, many more sexual predators on the sex offender list than there are transgender people," he said. "And we can all feel sympathy for folks who are having difficult times, because we all know folks that have a difficult time, whether folks are struggling with drugs, are struggling with their marriages, figuring out what it is that they're supposed to be doing in life. We can all have sympathy for that. But that does not mean that we should expose our wives and our sisters and our children to the sexual predators in the bathrooms."

ok, we havent had a discussion about the so called bathroom bills, Or the other Discrimination bills running rabid in the various states.

Why is that?
Why are these people discriminating against people for needing to get rid of their bodily fluids?

Altho I do think hes right that legislators are being called out for what they are....and so should they be.
The AFA has decided to boycott Target for welcoming trans employees and customers.
Yay everyone boycott.
These bills are built on twisted ideology.
Keep government small except when it comes to genitalia, reproduction and fundie morality.
Shudder.

Status: offline 		The whole rhetoric was disingenuous to begin with. This wasn't a "bathroom bill". They didn't even have ONE case of someone being assaulted by a trans* person in a restroom to fall back on. NOT. ONE.

Anybody else hear George Wallace being channeled?

I didnt know who Wallace was until Trump came into the equation, what a throwback.
I needed brain bleach after listening to clips and reading his "stands" from that generation.
If this is when america was great (as we keep being told)...i see no need to "go back" or "take back any country" to that hatred and violence and lack of "rights" of that era. That it has made morality warriors of the ones who want to go back cos it was great for them.

The "segregation now, etc" speech was pretty disgusting but it helped to further his political career. It was segregation that put Wallace on the map, so to speak.

The KKK was the strong arm of the Democrat party when it was formed.

Strom Thurmond was a Democrat in his younger days when he too was a racist.

Is this subject really about political lines or categories of people for you? (I will, however, refrain from using terms like shithead.)

No matter who a person is, their "category" history isn't clean. I wouldn't be too quick to be throwing stones in the Republican's house, either. Messy business.

Status: offline 		The consensus view, up until last month, was that exposing genitals unwanted to someone with opposite genitals was unacceptable.

Women and children who are told they must be willing to view unclothed people of the opposite anatomy as the price of entering their own locker rooms are not truly giving consent.

wow I must someday, get around to charging my father for walking around naked when I was a toddler, I never gave him consent.
Women can be as harmful to women(trans or not) and children in washrooms and locker rooms. But allof a sudden, trans people are more dangerous than kiddy fiddlers or abusive people(physical or mental).
I dont get nekid when I pee, OR poop. In a mens room, a genuine unisex loo or a locker room. Going to the bathroom in a public place has never been "safe".
Going to a girls school for 7 years taught me that.
