I'll admit it was kind of a tougne and cheek thing and if the women were none the wiser, no big deal. If they did have a clue then maybe it would be similar to what we saw on the video. If perverts started using the policy to start going into women's bathrooms with their cell phone cameras and all the rest of it and were found out, I think you would definitely see pretty much the same reaction.

I'm not really sure tongue and cheek would have been the descriptor I'd have used. The term 'jerk' comes to mind. I saw some of his other topics for 'social experiments' and this man doesn't exactly impress me as somebody looking for honest reactions. He's trying for the shock value. I can just imagine what's on the 'woman nursing in public' bit considering the slant of this one. A person has to wonder why he didn't do the same experiment in reverse if he was really interested in data. You don't suppose it might be that a man dressed as a woman using the men's facilities might just get an up close and personal lesson about what could happen, just maybe? (Sorry for the hint of wise crack there. It's not directed at you. It's directed at the doofus who put this crap on youtube.)

On this thread, there have been folks saying that perverts will do this or perverts will do that if those who identify (and that's a really important word in this debate) as the gender that they are transitioning into use the facilities that correspond to how they present. Like these simple ordinances are going to make all of the difference in the world and it's just the chance people are waiting for. I don't have the belief that a misdemeanor is what is holding people back.

What, exactly, do you think you or any other perv would see in the ladie's shithouse?

Nothing you couldn't get in vast quantities on the Net, I don't suppose.

I meant it was tongue and cheek as for me posting it on this thread. But I agree, it's not exactly a scientific experiment and Joey Salads is trying to be humorous and maybe somewhat sensational.with his YouTube videos. However, as far as the perverts go, and I could be wrong, these bathroom policies seem like they might open up a whole new opportunity for some of these guys thinking they will be able to get away with some of their crap. I do kind of feel for the trans people and even cross dressers trying to find a place to relieve themselves. I've been in that situation and it's a real inconvenience.

There's no need to indulge in conjecture about what might happen if TGs use the bathrooms appropriate for their gender. We already know what happens. Nothing happens. Nothing at all. Because TGs have been using the bathrooms appropriate for their gender for decades and nothing untoward has happened. And if anything untoward had happened we surely would have heard about it by now.

So it appears that the only places that these dark possibilities for unlimited unspeakable perversions exist is in the minds of those people who choose to talk and write about them.

I can agree with what you said but you missed my point. I was saying that perverts, not tg's or trans, are likely to take advantage of the policies with their cell phone cameras and what ever else having less risk under the law.

That has been my, and I believe the almost universal position, of those opposed to the open restrooms movement. It isn't the trans that will be the problem, it is the people who will use them for cover.

LadyPact -> RE: Keep Our State Straight. GOP AG. (5/4/2016 5:33:31 PM)

<Fast Reply>

For a very long time, I have been an opponent of legalizing BDSM. My reason for it has been thus: Actual proponents of DV will use this as an excuse to evade the law.

Unlike this debate, I base this assertion on what we KNOW already. The reason we have 'no report' laws now is because victims of violence were told what to say by the perpetrator. "It's just consensual BDSM" is the same thing as, it's just a disagreement, or a family matter, or whatever.

But, we don't have that here.

So far, NOBODY has been able to establish a case in North Carolina that says this. Not one case on the books.

What do we think? What do we know? What can we prove?

People wouldn't exploit the law like that...and they couldn't get away with it.

Oxford approves transgender bathroom ordinance with threat of $500 fine, 6 months in jail

Jesus Christ. Can you imagine it? As a TG you're terrified of going into one bar-toilet, lest you get beaten up by the neanderthals. But go in the other, and you could end up in jail.

How much worse do they want to make the lives of these poor sods, before they'll be satisfied?

Which was swiftly repealed.

And if that's not bad enough you have the FtM's who are afraid of being in the mens restroom because the neanderthals might find out they really aren't a man and beating the crap out of them or trying to use the ladies room and risk being run out because they finally starting growing facial hair and look like a man. It's a cluster fuck for sure. Personally I still think they should be adding family/gender neutral bathrooms so everyone can pee in peace.

As long as I'm wearing my confederate flag shirt and riding around in my pickup truck with the gun rack in the back, I can get away with just about anything. [:D]

Seriously though, we make the headlines for a lot of stupid shit, and it can get really embarrassing. And we get a really bad rap for it, some of which is deserved and some which is not.

I work in a very liberal environment with direct ties to families and communities all over the state that are directly involved in education, the arts, sciences, etc. So I get a front door view into all of the good things happening that doesn't get reported in the media. For us moderates, it is promising to see how people from all backgrounds and political views still find ways to come together. I see it regularly firsthand. But not in the news. Our politicians keep the reporters way to busy with their antics, even John Oliver.
http://www.al.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2016/04/watch_john_oliver_rip_gov_robe.html

I could talk about wonderful things that I see firsthand but that while are inspiring, just as not as interesting as making John Oliver.

But I will share a couple of articles that have appeared in our papers recently, and while they don't discuss all of the newsworthy items that no one knows about, they do address sides of Alabama that no one gets to see, because of what makes better news.

Some of the rest stops on I-95 now include single-toilet handicapped/family bathrooms that also provide sinks and fold-down changing tables. Aside from the benefits to all sorts and conditions of other folks, I love them for the selfish reason that they're way more ostomy-friendly. (Sorry if that's TMI!) [:)]

Funny you should say that.

Years ago, I was visiting a historic house in Georgia and noticed that the ticket taker--the Platonic form of a genteel, coiffed, elegant Southern lady--had a book with her for slow times. Through my lens of regional prejudice, I wondered inwardly what televangelist it was by. Turned out it was Blinded by the Right: The Conscience of an Ex-Conservative by David Brock, which led to a fascinating, amiable conversation.

Now and then, I need reminders about books, covers, and (most important) their readers.

Thank you, DC. Appreciated. However, there are fewer and fewer people like that these days, it seems. One of the reasons why, as one of the articles that I linked said, we have learned to laugh at ourselves.
