quote:

Chimpanzee groups are male-dominated. Chimp dominance is about monopolizing fertile females. While they're dominant, dominant males father a disproportionate number of young. That's the main driver of male competitiveness and aggression. Chimps are jealous, ambitious, sometimes violent even within their group. Male chimps form coalitions to topple dominant males, then share power and privileges

quote:

Contrast bonobos, and here's the thing: the dominant individual is always a female. Female coalitions preserve bonobo peace by keeping males socially submissive. Female authority thoroughly dampens male aggression

And what does the social structures of other species have to do with those of humanity?

Bonobos are known as the dwarf chimpanzee. An endangered species which has been out-evolved and out-competed by those dominating male chimpanzees.

Yeah. I think you just shot your own argument in the foot.

You're welcome.

P.S. In case you didn't understand the implications - those tribal groups with matriarchal societies are largely dead because they had the shit kicked out of them by male-dominated societies.

Evolution in action.

Women are in charge. It's just that some insecure males refuse to admit it.

Just imagine how much evolution action you're ~not~ going to get by posting nonsense like this. Because females control reproduction. They choose which males they wanna do the funky chicken with. Unless of course, you're planning on being the first immaculate male conception? Let us know when you come to term. I'll send a fruit basket.

Nope. Neither out-evolved nor out-competed by chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes). There is no competition between the two Pan species. They live in different regions and habitats.
Bonobos (Pan paniscus) are endangered because of habitat loss and being hunted by humans (Homo idioticus). So are chimpanzees, for the same reasons.

I hope you understand the implications.

I am so incredibly Dominant that I make my decisions without checking what simians decided to do.

Yes, I understand that some people aren't all that quick on the uptake.

I was speaking of homo sapiens.

Christ, some people are thick.

As an old hand at these sorts of discussions, I've noticed that people don't really 'do' the study of social structures here, TDC. If you want to understand human society, you don't look directly at human society, you look at those of wolves, simians ... etc, etc. Psychology gives you some mileage, though.

So we can add biology and evolution to the long list of subjects that Awareness knows little or nothing about, but despite this ignorance, is prepared to pontificate about loudly and arrogantly.

So in love with the sound of his own opinions he doesn't seem to be aware that someone has just made a complete fool of him .... so much for his 'awareness'.

Seriously?

Bonobos are considered amongst our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. We out-competed and out-evolved them.

Duh.

Again, Christ some people are thick.

Oh, I love the way you try and play mean girls by talking about someone to each other instead of to them.

It's something which men don't do. We're more directly confrontational. Well... unless you're a submissive male of course. Then you act like a girl.

QED.

Sexual dimorphism, gender-based division of labour and patriarchal societies are aspects of successful species.

Matriarchal societies tend to be small, isolated or extinct.

Look, Awareness, word to the wise - maybe you should just avoid the forums at this time of the month? Particularly if you're having, well, not to put too fine a point on it, a very heavy one.
