Unfortunately I never liked any of them. I am a failure as a geek.
(I also don't like comic books or superhero movies)

And back then, not popular meant not popular with the Nielson families. That was the only data they had. Now it is built into some cable boxes, even with a camera to see if anyone is actually watching or if they just left the TV on ad all left. Some people do that to discourage burglars.

The other problem with the Nielsons is that they tend to assume viewing figures are largely static over the course of a season. They didn't seem to be able to account for a show's audience growing slowly but steadily week by week back in the '60s.

I wanna see Tennent back ....soon even if its only for one show.

PeonForHer -> RE: Anyone tired of white male hating? (5/24/2016 10:09:06 AM)

Anyone know how they made the Tardis noise? *I* do. [;)]

ETA: And no, they didn't record a cow giving birth.

WhoreMods -> RE: Anyone tired of white male hating? (5/24/2016 10:09:31 AM)

You enjoyed the 50th special then? It was John Hurt who struck me in more of that one. I want to see a lot more Doctor Grumpy, frankly.

Creative: as far as your and Lucy's talk about Star Trek and Who goes, I'm told (admittedly, before my time so they can tell me anything), I think the first broadcasts of Star Trek over here went down a lot better than they did in the 'States. It's been suggested that having to suddenly compete with that was a factor in the Beeb raising their game a lot for Troughton's last and Pertwee's first seasons.

PFH: Blue Peter watcher, eh?

Yes, but Jon Pertwee told me. When my brothers and I visited his house in West Barnes.

I was told by an ex who liked the show (yet another I don't like, sorry) that it was a reverbed recording of some keys scraped along a piano wire.

Tennent was really good at portraying a Doctor that goes from the joyful wonder of generation to a Time Lord weighed down not only by his experiences but the memory of shared experience of the previous Doctors. Matt Smith was good and was a pleasure throughout but way different than David Tennent. Coal-fired? Vexing AND interesting.

I dunno about that, I know I just watched both avidly. But too young then to have known the reasons behind the beeb.
My godmother was a matron at stanmore orthopedic, and we got to meet Jon and a dalek at a hospital do...I wasnt very old, and never got pics, but i know my sister peed herself when the dalek moved. Mr Pertwee forever had my adoration, lol.
By the way his son Sean is a hell of an actor.

Yes I did, I loved the 50th... always like John Hurt, but I like Chris Ecclstone too, shrugs.
Blue Peter fan too, gawd I feel old. did you ever watch HOW?
now im feeling nostalgic, dammit.

Butch!!! Yes a big red dwarf fan, and blackadder. you know the new RD X1/X11 comes out soon?

ThatDizzyChick -> RE: Anyone tired of white male hating? (5/24/2016 10:56:43 AM)

Blackadder, I enjoyed that show.

Apart from the fact he makes me drool
Yeah...what you said:) I think his theatre background has a lot to do with it, have you seen his shakespeare?...theres a joke in there somewhere.
I enjoyed the hell out of Matt SMith, but he was too light at times, Capaldi, I like but he hasnt grown on me yet.
I have to say that I missed out the later years after Davidson, I was into chaps by then so dr who, went out the window.
Now, when its on, me, hubby and my kids get together and watch it.

Am I the only one who watches programs and never makes a note of the name of the episode??
Ive watched them, but I need a synopsis of the episode to recognize them.
Its a mental block I think, Im like it with most tv shows.

I have Black Adder on DVD. And The Thin Blue Line. (Cannot stand Mr. Bean though.)

WhoreMods -> RE: Anyone tired of white male hating? (5/24/2016 11:46:22 AM)

I'm impressed by the stories about meeting Pertwee. Always thought he's very underrated as a Who (though obviously, he was way better as a scarecrow. [;)]) He probably gets a bit of a bum rap over being stuck between the two best Whos from the original series.

I really liked Matt Smith at first (and the writers did do a much better job of writing him as an old fart in a completely inappropriate body than they ever managed with Peter Davison), but he'd got really tiresome by the end. Tennant was great, but I'd have liked to have seen a lot more of his darker side: the stuff of his that really stands out for me is the moments when he reminds you that he's playing an alien war criminal who has a history of doing terrible things, is is capable of getting really unpleasant if necessary. Mind you, I much prefer Eccleston to either, and I'm enjoying Capaldi a lot as well.

I don't have any real memories of HOW, but I am absolutely positive that I watched it, if that makes any sense. The opening title music on Youtube and the cast in the clips there are very familiar seeming indeed, but nothing seems to connect, which is weird.

As we've already done Star Trek, how about favourite Who stories? I'd probably go for The Silurians (The Pertwee one) from the original series, and Dalek (the Eccleston one with what was supposed to be the last Dalek) from the relaunch.

Dizzy, do you have a favourite Blackadder? I always liked the one where he's appointed Lord High Executioner...

Lucylastic -> RE: Anyone tired of white male hating? (5/24/2016 11:47:31 AM)

Did not the Nine O Clock News ever make it over there? Brilliant sketch show that I think was the first thing Rowan Atkinson was in on the telly.
