LP's comment brings to mind a favorite quote from a favorite spiritual writer.

"Do you consider yourself a Christian?" [the interviewer] asked.
I sighed and said, "My problem with that is that so many people who publicly identify
themselves as Christians are such jerks about it."
The woman laughed, as did the people in the sound booth behind her. . . .

I said I often wondered if being a Christian was something we could, or should, claim for ourselves;
that if being a Christian meant incarnating the love of Christ in my own life,
then maybe it would be best to let others tell me how well, or how badly, I'm doing.

" A new commandment I give to you. Love one another as I have loved you."

As a so-called Christian, I fail at this, constantly.

Me too, alas.

Your accepted. Your loved. Not by the others but from your own walk in your own life. Sleep in peace. God bless.

Nope. Or just Dizzy, that's what everybody calls me. Either is fine.

Actually that is not quite correct. The actual wording is as follows.
quote:

A new commandment I give to you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

The period makes the meaning very different. What's more, to my mind it is not all that clear just how much he loved anybody, a lot of the time he seems to have used those around him for his own ends rather shamelessly, and so really the "As I have loved you" bit doesn't really mean a lot, in fact given the other things he did and said it really means "talk a good game about loving one another".

I do the best I can. [;)]

dcnovice -> RE: 11 States Sue Over Transgender Policy (5/26/2016 8:49:29 PM)

What do you see as the key difference?

I might be a Christian, but I don't want to be grouped in with the likes of you.

You claim you might be a Christian? You are a fraud.

You have sold your soul to the devil. He is coming to claim you.

Good God there will be no further contact here.

Well in the incorrect version originally quoted it seemed to say that people should love each other the way he loved them. In the actual quote it says that they should love each other because he loved them.

Yeah, "As I have loved you". Talk to people born with birth defects and susceptibility to really horrid diseases. But god can't bestow this shit on people who do really really wrong ?

Well "He" said it, who am I to argue ?

I am in no way intending anything I say as attacking you.
Can we do it? Most likely.
Should we do it? No.

No, I didn't think you were. However, in my opinion, this subject has become a royal mess with some people.

"Should" is an interesting word. It's different than "can" as in ability.

I was at Raven's Stadium (otherwise known as M&T Bank stadium) not long back. If they wanted, they could change the facilities. That franchise has more than enough funds.

Should they? Yes.

That would be accomplished with "family" restrooms better than an open restroom policy.

And yes some people (as with most subects ) assime some form of evil in those who disagree with them.

With no offense meant...

The trans* community is 3% of our world.

I'll take your word for that but I find the 3% figure hard to wrap my head around. I'll admit I pulled the itsy bitsy figure out of a hat.

No offense taken either, you're the least offensive person in P&R.

No it wouldn't. That would require a huge expense in retrofitting everything. And it still wouldn't stop the imaginary army of pervs from using those restrooms to do their imaginary nefarious deeds.

lovmuffin i agree if the feds had left it alone it would have been dealt with without the drama. it does distract the public from the military not having enough funds for bullets and housing for soldiers on drill status. the economy is tanking, who cares who uses what bathroom [sm=wtf.gif]

Anyone who deosn't want people to think about military aircraft grounded for lack of parts. It is like Carter all over again.

Interesting, thanks.

Need to ponder this one. The NRSV has "Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another," which raises the question of how to construe the "Just as." I also the think the foot-washing, offered earlier in the passage as an explicit example of how to treat one another, can be an important lens for viewing the new commandment. Then there's the subsequent verse ("By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another”), which seems to connect the loving to Christ's teaching.

What's the 2nd largest? The USN.

The perverts (and I repeat again I am not talking about Trans) are real and their nefarious deeds are also.

You live in Canada, things like parts and ammunition shortages would not be covered there.
