FR Talk about thread drift. My point was that if you had a business say in Ohio or Illinois or something, you might retire in a red state. When you have a few million in the bank and get maybe a couple grand a month social security you do not pay taxes, or much taxes. If nothing else you displace taxpayers. And Florida for example, is almost completely a service based economy, but they get enough business that there is no state income tax. In fact their property taxes are low I think, when I was there my buddy told me something like the first hundred grand value of your property was exempt. That may have changed but in the 1990s that is how it was. At least in that county. Let's go into that a little more. It seems the perception is that Florida is a great state to live in, but to work in not so much. My buddy who chose to move there made dentures for a living. He got his license (CDT) which enabled him to open his own business doing it. He showed me the intricacy of the work actually and I see it is not a job for monkeys. In fact it is hard to find qualified help in that business, somewhat like a few specialised engineering fields. Things like that, and their lax application of bankruptcy laws made it kinda a retirement capitol of the country. I mean, your Wife has $30 million in the bank but you are broke, you go to court and can keep your $3 million house and your Deusenberg. One car and one house, no matter what they're worth. Some of the people down there fucked over alot of people, but they are by no means welfare recipients. In fact their spending supports the state economy, remember there is no income tax, and any house worth less than a hundred grand was tax free. You can see the possibilities. I am semi retired, I don't but I could live in one room. Just get rid of most of the rest of my tools and I can be there. Buy a fifty grand house for cash, and down there electricity is cheaper than up here which is a good thing because you NEED AC down there. Then we got qualified engineers fleeing California for Colorado, Arizona and Texas. These old guys are not taking on alot of projects, their SS probably covers most of their expenses and they work for something to do. So they're no longer making that $500,000 a year anymore. They are spending time with their olady, going to see the grandkids. Work maybe ten hours a week. But they are retired and they EARNED that SS check. It is in no way welfare any more than unemployment is. Another thing about the south is by nature they have a longer growing season, and sometimes can get two crops a year with certain plants. An agrarian environment does not pull in that much money, but try living without it. In relation to income, people pay a small fraction for food than they used to say 100 years ago. There is more produce per acre, but also better transportation. You want your oranges coming from Florida by horse and buggy ? Hell no, you want them in a nice clean reefer hauled by a supercharged tractor going about 90 MPH. (they do get filthy) But the fact is, that is one of the things I have been saying about the balance of trade. We import little phones n shit that are worth $600 each and you can get millions of them on one boat. We export wheat and bombs. The wheat is dirt cheap and the bombs have a very limited market and that is the crux of our problems. And after the Dodge boys sued Henry, that fixed for all of us. And when people went to Kmart back in the 1970s and saw the Zenith TV for $279 and the Sanyo for $229 and pocketed that fifty bucks they told the industry they want it cheap and did not care about quality or jobs in the US. In a way, at least back then you can say the government did not impel the offshoring of our jobs, the people did. They spoke with the loudest mouth in the world, their wallet. Now it is different, case law now dictates any publicly traded company must offshore the jobs if it will make more money. It is an obligation to the shareholders. But back to the south, I like southerners. They'll shoot you in a heartbeat but I consider that a good point. Real conservatives, not these assholes we got in government. If government is significantly making life better there, well remember California. Not recently, but in the past they said California was tops, bringing back 150 % of taxes paid. Now forget about the national election and think about the state elections for senators and congressmen. They used to be rated by how much federal money they could pull from the feds for the state. Remember that ? So if it is true their congressmen are better than those in the blue states. How they do that being so stooopit ? What's more, an opposing President signed it. Congress only has limited powers to act unilaterally and that does not include this. I am starting to think there are some real conservatives in government who are not fucking stupid or religious, they just don't make alot of noise and aren't running for President. Wouldn't it be nice for a President to not try to take away your rights and retirement, spank the banks and do a few of the things liberals want to do, but actually figure out a way to pay for it ? Even a third party candidate, so ideal that even this crowd on this forum can agree on him, would not be able to fix this shit with this congress. Logically that means congress is the place to start. There are about 435 in the house of representatives known as congressmen, or congresswomen. There are one hundred, two per state in the senate, and their positions are not vulnerable to gerrymandering. In fact in the past they weren't even directly elected, but that is neither here nor there. There is no redistricting for them and they are 435/100 more powerful than the house of representatives. And other than EOs, they can pretty much kill any stupid shit a President might try to do, like Trump. Seriously I prefer Trump to any republican approved tweedle dee, but he does not know politics. I am not so sure he is strong on business skills, but he is a change. He is not a Bush. He is not in the old boy network. He did say he was against abortion But he has about as much chance of making it illegal as Bush did. And Sanders with the tax increases, congress has to put something on his desk for that, unless he want a new tax by EO and the court would strike that down in about five minutes. The problem is these motherfuckers become CEO of the military and can fuick with other countries, and all the most of them accomplish is to create more terrorist, or freedom fighters depending. Hillary Clinton has promised to do that. Not the other two. Even if Hillary Clinton gets ALL the Woman democrat vote that does not guarantee her the big chair. No more than being White got McCain or Romney the big chair. Whites are still in the majority, so it is logical that any voted for Obama. Call us racist again motherfuckers because 20 % of the people did not elect this Black President. Can't be done. OK, this is one of my slightly disjointed rants on a Saturday evening. Hope you enjoyed it. T^T
