*sighs*, this is just the reality of the working world! In another words. Sexualising yourself wins.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/06/27/women-who-wear-low-cut-tops-on-job-applications-19-times-more-li/

Wearing a low-cut dress in a job application photograph dramatically increases a woman’s chances of receiving an interview, new research suggests.

A French study showed female applicants were 19 times more successful in securing job interviews when pictured in revealing clothing rather than more conservative attire.

The research carried out in Paris found that women stood a much greater chance of earning job interviews for both sales and accounting roles.

Dr Sevag Kertechian, a researcher based at Paris-Sorbonne University in the French capital, is to reveal the full findings of his study at the Appearance Matters Conference - the world’s largest event on body image and disfigurement - being held between Tuesday and Thursday.

The conference will see more than 200 appearance experts from across the world tackle issues including weight loss surgery, eating disorders and ‘ultra-thin’ dolls.

Dr Kertechian decided to research the impact clothing had on the recruitment process after realising it had never been studied.

As job advertisements came up over a period of three years he put two women forward for the roles.

Both have similar looks and near identical skills and experience on their CVs but were dressed differently in their application photographs with one wearing a low-cut dress and the other in round neck clothing.

Each woman was forwarded for 100 roles wearing the revealing outfit and 100 jobs in the more traditional clothing, to ensure the experiment was fair.

Dr Kertechian found the applicant wearing the low-cut dress captured the attention of the recruiters more successfully.

Among the 200 sales role applications, the low-cut dress submissions received 62 more interview offers than their counterparts.

From the 200 accountancy applications there were 68 more interview offers for the more provocatively-dressed candidate.

“Our results showed interesting trends as low-cut dresses significantly influenced the choice of the recruiters, even for accounting positions," said Dr Kertechian.

"Regardless of the job, whether customer-facing saleswoman or office-based accountant the candidate with the low cut clothing received more positive answers.

“The results were quite shocking and negative but not necessarily surprising – they show we need to conduct more research.”

Did they really have to do a study to figure this out? Hell I could have told them that tits get results.

I seriously didn't believe this would be true!

I mean, isn't there enough recruiters in this world, who would think like, they prefer someone more conservatively dressed? Is it really the trend to dress more provocatively now? At work? Even if you aren't on front line?

A French study

That explains it.

quote:

A French study showed female applicants were 19 times more successful in securing job interviews when pictured in revealing clothing rather than more conservative attire.

The research carried out in Paris found that women stood a much greater chance of earning job interviews for both sales and accounting roles.

Dr Kertechian found the applicant wearing the low-cut dress captured the attention of the recruiters more successfully [for interview offers].
<snip>

1. The study covers job interview offers, not actual job offers for new hires. While getting your foot in the door is critical, it does not ensure success.

2. If these were headhunter recruiters working for agencies, then their perception of bringing forward an attractive job candidate is biased, i.e. more pop-culture based.

3. If HR Depts, then the same could still hold true in responding at an emotional level as the middleman, or responding subliminally to commercialization of a (human) product.

4. This study covers only very limited starting-gate results. These are white-collar, not pink-collar, jobs where women who do not present themselves in conservative professional attire in the office are unlikely to get taken seriously by management executives.

But if you send a picture that cover your boobs, and you can't get to the first interview, so 0% chance of getting the job.

That's the point, getting to the interview first is the first important step to land a job. And IF they clearly chosen you because of your low cut attire, then I would think they expect you to follow up with that, in actual person. If you don't, maybe they'll cut you too after first round of interview!

I mean, what is going on!! I sooo want the same study to be done in other countries to see if truly same results!

This isn't a matter of fact thing in this world to me at all!

Really Greta???
Are you sooo naive in your insular little world not to realize this?
It's been like this since the Industrial Revolution pretty much.

The world is (generally) a male-dominated environment.
Most of the hiring and firing and members of corporate boards are male.
Tits will get you interviews and jobs in most cases.
It's been like that for decades.
It will probably stay that way for a few more decades... and then some.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that out.

As Lucy said: This wasnt news back then, its not news now.

In my country, you have plenty of male bosses, always criticizing that, your skirt is too short and your top is too low. That's why it's surprising. They want you to dress more covered up usually. Unless you are in a sales or front line job, that's different.

But accountants?

That's because you have a LOT of Islamic people there and Sharia Law.
You'll find the same 'cover up' attitude in all Islamic countries.

Not so anywhere in the west.

ETA: When the wife was going thru her diverce, her solicitor was a very nice lady but was Islamic and wore her head scarf in the office.
I ticked her off for doing that because I found it offensive and an affront to British tradition.
But, much to my chagrin, it's allowed these days.

Yet I read online articles written by British white people on what is a professional working dress code. And they go to the extent of mentioning that women should not wear pencil skirts if they got big bums as it would be too sexualised.

I wonder if the same results as France will happen in Britain. It may not.

Not ignorant - patriotic.

For thousands of years it has always been a tradition to remove your head gear when going indoors. Not to do so has always been considered rude and insulting.
I just stood up for tradition.
That's not being ignorant.
In fact, I considered it ignorant of her not to follow our tradition in the country that she lives in.

No, ignorant and bigoted.

Not for women it hasn't been, in fact it is just the opposite, in western Europe women were expected to keep their heads covered for most of recorded history.
So you are in fact ignorant, and use fictitious traditions to try explain away your prejudice and bigotry.

They might get the interview but do they get the job?
I want to see the study for that.

I guess it's where your from but conservative is taken more seriously then look I've got big tah tahs.
I really don't want to work for a place which hires me for being a sex kitten.
I lose respect for them along with respect for myself.
Unless I am entering a physical appearance dominant industry then I could see it being a major showcase.

I feel like nobody is getting the point that, if you aren't even chosen for the first interview, then how can you get the job at all, it means you already have 0% chance of getting the job. They already refuse to interview you without displaying a little of those "tah tah" in your resume, as you call it.

So first round of interview, qualification is showing "tah tah", from all the women who DID show their "tah tah", then maybe they choose from who shows up showing "tah tahs" as next elimination round.

But over all, I just find this moving backwards. Like seriously back wards. That one has to flash cleavage for a CHANCE of getting considered for the job.

This is backwards for France, but I would love to see if UK and US has the same results.

And it would be interesting to see if my country has the same results since HR is usually a female dominated industry.

It is moving backwards by demeaning yourself.
I guess it can give you an advantage to get your foot in the door, then showing your qualifications more in the actual interview. It is a dog eat dog world out there.
In my thinking though, I do not want to work for a place that makes sexual distractions priority. Tells me a lot about the place.
