And - for fuck's sake, seriously - you call me effete? You monumental dildo. I can lift twice my body weight. I'm roughly 150% as strong as the average man of my own weight. I've been using a gym regularly for over fifteen years - and hard, at that. I didn't photoshop those abs on my belly, matey.

If I were to challenge you to put up your mitts against me, you'd probably have a cardiac arrest just trying to heave yourself out of your chair, you great lummox of methane-filled, psychopathically-egotistical, rancid old lard.

Well yeah sure. But other than that...

LL, given that you used it thrice, do you mean by separating the words feminist and misogynist with slashes, to say that they are opposites, in the same way that woman/man are?

I'm curious.

Funny really. Absolutely against everything that the likes of respectmen and Awareness have so energetically been pumping at us all here, and for so long ... I've never come across a self-professed, female feminist, who's been anything but supportive of me, and who I am, and how I want to carve out my own life. They've all *got it*. The reason I'm a feminist isn't primarily because of the feminist theories I've read (and had to read, given what I do). It's because I've liked the real-life feminists I've met. The women I've know who've called themselves feminists have, without exception, been good women; their hearts have been in the right place, and they've not bullshitted me.

That last, I would see, were it not to have been there: I do have something of a good nose for bullshitters, though I say it myself.

Milo's an editor on Breitbart, he writes more than anything else and his appearances on Youtube are recordings of the events he speaks at. I can see your knowledge of Milo is on a par with your knowledge of feminism.

None of that seems like a good reason to jettison the entire notion of gender equality.
I actually firmly believe we need a "Men's Lib" movement but this isn't the way to do it.

I don't think we need a "women's lib" movement anymore. And, we certainly don't need a "men's lib" movement. to counter the women's lib movement.

What we need to do is to make sure we're working for true gender equality. That means treat men and women alike. That doesn't mean women get priority status over men for past inequality.

It's like trying to counter racism with different racism. All you get is more racism. In this case, it's genderism/sexism.

If someone is treating one gender differently than another - regardless of which gender is getting the boost - that someone should be held accountable for discrimination. Period.

Why are they getting "too" much equality?

And, we certainly don't need a "men's lib" movement. to counter the women's lib movement.

What we need to do is to make sure we're working for true gender equality. That means treat men and women alike.

So will women have to stand up to pee or will men have to sit down?

That doesn't mean women get priority status over men for past inequality.

So if someone steals everything you own and murders your children but then says he will be nice from now on you would be kewel with that?
It is pretty common for thieves to feel they are entitled to what they have stolen.

It's like trying to counter racism with different racism.

Tell us just how to fix it. Like above steal everything someone has for a few hundred years and then say you will play nice from now on?

All you get is more racism. In this case, it's genderism/sexism.

Perhaps because the thieves don't want to let go of what they have stolen?

If someone is treating one gender differently than another - regardless of which gender is getting the boost - that someone should be held accountable for discrimination. Period.

Now you are talking out of both side of your mouth. If someone is to be held accountable for prior discrimination how is that accomplished without taking some of that wmp and spreading it around?

I'd like to ask you something, thompsonx. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression from your replies to Mr. Scuri that you believe feminism still has some ways to go.

What does the victory condition look like? What sort of numbers would you wish to see in order to state the following? "Ok, there. Mission accomplished. We have achieved what we set out to achieve."

I used to think that. Now, I'm watching what's going on and realizing I wouldn't take Carol to more than half the states in the US any more than I'd take her to a Muslim country (well, Muslim countries that have legalized oppression of women anyway). That's a sad state of affairs. We have yahoos in power talking about when rape is OK and, for god's sake, asserting that you can't get pregnant from rape. Yeah, I think there's still some more work to do. That sucks but there you have it. I think women had damned well better get more organized than they have been in this last decade or two because they are losing ground.

And, we certainly don't need a "men's lib" movement. to counter the women's lib movement.
I never saw it as a counter movement. I saw it as addressing things feminism has chosen to pass over. I'm not real huge on the notion that 50% of humanity is in some sort of conflict with the other 50%. I think we need a men's movement more to counter societal rules than anything feminism introduced.

What we need to do is to make sure we're working for true gender equality. That means treat men and women alike. That doesn't mean women get priority status over men for past inequality.
This is a much more complicated question than that and I think you know it. If there is currently an entrenched inequality then some action must be done to correct it. It won't change on it's own. In other words, with some careful limitations, I'm in favor of affirmative action. In fact, I've been involved with affirmative action type things as a manager and they desperately needed to get done. The status quo was simply unsupportable (which was a strong, institutional bias towards promoting men even when more qualified women were present). The corrective action was fairly obvious. The first step was to go through our personnel folders and find those women who should've been promoted years ago and spend our promotion budget on them first. After that, it was to assertively nurture female employees where capability was demonstrated in order to get depth on the bench. I can't find fault with either of those things. It's what needed to happen if the reality of our HR practices was to match what the corporate culture wanted. The company envisioned itself as a meritocracy so it set out to fix the places where it wasn't.

JeffBC, is that so? I can certainly picture a sweaty, poorly-cut suit-wearing pulpiteer droning on about biology he doesn't understand and making an assertion that one can't get pregnant from rape.

The talking about when rape is OK idea though seems a little out there for the US in 2016. Would you care to point me in the right direction, or did hyperbole get the better of you?

Sadly, there are men in power that still think it. See here.

I don't recall the particulars, but I think there was some politician that said that rape was ok in some cultures. In 2014, there was a politician in India that said sometimes it's okay, but I seem to recall there being another stupid comment about it within the last couple weeks, but I don't recall if it was in the US or elsewhere.

Dizzy, I disagree with you here.

I think there are some real differences between how the genders handle certain issues, particularly emotional ones, which feminism even at its most sober seems to have no consideration for.

Though I generally dislike feminism, and the open display of its various calling cards I take as a sign to call elsewhere, I applaud all of the motives and half of the efforts of those feminists who mean it when they say that their end in mind is human flourishing in general terms. I happen to think that there is a blindness to some of the differences which is very much caused by the same lenses whose focus won so many of the movements earliest and noblest victories.

I happen to not like the term "Men's liberation movement", but I think that the most effective efforts to help men and boys deal with issues we could call gendered don't come from within feminism, mainstream or not.
