ORIGINAL: Baldrick I am all for people owning weapons... If people are properly trained and licensed... I'm Canadian.. We have strict gun laws. In order for you to purchase and own a weapon... You need to take a firearms safety class. 1 day for rifles, 2 days for a combined rifle and handgun course. You have to pass the tests, then you send your form from the class along with your paperwork to the Canadian Firearms Program. You have to have 2 personal references on your application, and if anyone doesn't feel you should have one they are free to call the CFP and they will make sure it goes in the file. It took me 6 months to get my license. I am legally allowed to own a handgun. The stipulations are A/ you have to belong to a gun club, and B/ you have to have an Authorization to Transport, meaning legally you are only allowed to transport it to and from the gun range. You are allowed to have semi automatic rifles but the mags have to be blocked so they can only hold 5 rounds, except for the M1 Garand. If you have a weapon and commit a crime or do something stupid with it, all your weapons are confiscated and you lose your license. Weapons have to be trigger locked and or locked in a gun safe, and we are not allowed to have what is considered a reasonable amount of ammo for each weapon.. Since the mass shooting in Montreal in 1995 the laws became what they are and there have been only 9 mass shootings in Canada since.. According to what i have read a mass shooting is more than 4 people.. There have only been 9 in Canada since then. We Canadians don't have as many weapons as the US, but we have about 2 million. I live in a city on about 218,000 people. There have been a few times we have gone a couple of years without a murder. The US has 10x more the population of us, I am sure you guys could come up with reasonable gun control laws... Why is it so hard? Because God did not make men to be "allowed" something by their government. God made government to serve men. No offense, but your ideas are repellant to me. I shudder, literally, when I read what you've expressed.
