A gym responsible for an "offensive" billboard poster has replaced it with one described as "even worse" than the original. No doubt a feminist said that - yes I know you have a point occasionally respectman.

Tired of being fat and ugly just be ugly at £14.99

They’re coming (aliens) and when they arrive they will take the fat ones first – save yourself £14.99

I thought it funny we live in a political correct world run amok

Real0ne -> RE: Funny or Digusting? (8/18/2016 7:33:15 AM)

the concept of politically correct in itself is an amok

NookieNotes -> RE: Funny or Digusting? (8/18/2016 7:56:24 AM)

I think they should be allowed to market to the people that respond to this, and it makes clear to the others where not to spend their money.

*shrugs*

Kirata -> RE: Funny or Digusting? (8/18/2016 8:09:54 AM)

I think both billboards are hilarious, and I'm getting a bit disgusted with people always looking for something to be "disgusted" about.

Image - a thread to complex for me to do

ThatDizzyChick -> RE: Funny or Digusting? (8/18/2016 8:49:55 AM)

I am with Kirata on this one, I find nothing wrong with either billboard.

FR -

I don't have a problem with the ads' content (I thought they were clever and funny), but I question where they were placed.
Adults get the humor, but children might very well not - which is the point made in the article.
I think the advertising medium (open billboards) used by the gym is the problem here, not the "political correctness" of the content.

It's primo adspace, though. You know an awful lot of adults are going to be exposed to it. How old to kids have to be before they get to know what 'fat' or 'ugly' mean?

Kirata sorta mentioned it, but there are too many damn people out looking for things to be offended over.

longwayhome -> RE: Funny or Digusting? (8/18/2016 4:58:49 PM)

I don't think the billboards are offensive as they are not singling anyone in particular out and calling them fat. It's a bit like saying "Don't be thick (or insert other vaguely insulting term), use our gym".

Mind you they are not particularly funny either, or for that matter effective at persuading people to use the gym in question. Something isn't fun just because it has a cartoon. The only thing of note about this story is that some people don't like the word fat. Well good for them - they are perfectly entitled to their own opinion.

I don't think anyone is being horribly offended or hurt, and I am referring both to the people who don't like the use of the word fat and anyone who is getting hot under the collar about it being political correctness gone mad.

Nobody is being forced to use the gym and nobody is having their right of free speech taken away by a few people reacting negaitively to the use of the word fat. In fact I'm having difficulty in caring either way.

Remind me - why did I start writing this in the first place?

It would be interesting to see the campaign's results.

For me, the first billboard brought a momentary chuckle. The second fell flat. Neither would have inspired me to check out the gym. They might have worked better if the visuals weren't so cheesy.

I'd like to know where the fuck you got that idea from, the compliant has to do with having been bullied.

I actually think they are rather stupid and I am completely indifferent to them. I had no good or bad feelings upon viewing them.

about three to four years old..certainly as soon as they meet other children on a regular basis(kindergarten)

Im gonna stay fat and ugly, and spend my money elsewhere.

Termyn8or -> RE: Funny or Digusting? (8/18/2016 6:35:48 PM)

If this politically correct shit keeps going forward we won't be able to tell any jokes. There is always someone who is the butt of a joke, very few exceptions. The difference is that some people take offense.

Beam me up Scotty.

ThatDizzyChick -> RE: Funny or Digusting? (8/18/2016 8:09:49 PM)

You just need to know your audience.

Greta75 -> RE: Funny or Digusting? (8/18/2016 8:20:17 PM)

Well the ads are creative.

But I think they are offensive.

I agree it's not healthy for kids. And when I say kids, I say teenager level too.

Especially the ones who are actually getting bullied for being fat or ugly.

It is fat shaming everyone who is fat and ugly shaming everyone who is ugly.
It is singling out on a group of people.

If it says, 'Aliens will come to earth and remove the black people first!" It is the same thing.

Also on top of that, I feel it's a total lie that exercise helps people lose weight.
Diet helps people lose weight. Not exercise. Exercise is for improving your over all health and improve blood circulation and stronger heart and build muscles which have alot of health benefits. But lose weight? that's 90% diet.

I think the advertisers know for sure this is offensive and will create controversy, and people will talk about it, their ad might even go viral. Their goal is to get attention. They have succeeded the aim of their ad.

Now their Gym is known.

Not sure I agree with most of your points but one thing is for sure - the gym is much better known now.

Whether that alone will help sales is another matter.

SunDominant -> RE: Funny or Digusting? (8/19/2016 2:38:49 PM)

Its funny.

Greta, fat people should be shamed, their personal eating habits cost me money. If someone is one of the relatively rare cases where it is medical, they can tell me what institute is doing research for a cure so I can write a check.

PCOS effects approximately 25% of the female population. One of the symptoms is insulin resistance which causes weight gain. It has no cure. Start writing that check. Currently several Universities are doing research.
