You are entitled to your opinion, I see him as a cynical oppotunist taking advantage of the situation for personal gain.

I was speaking about this with one of my professors, the other day. He's an avid fan of the NFL and has been for longer than I. I was on a jag about the absolute toothlessness of Kaepernak's "protest". He asked what I meant and I explained:

Kaepernak didn't chose a form of protest that had any potential for negative effects on him or his career. I think this kind of supports your assertion and my suspicion of his motivation.

Why didn't he refuse to dress for a game as a form of protest? Simple. He might have been fined/suspended/cut, if he had. At that point, if the team had cut him, it would have been "for cause".

I haven't been able to find a legitimate source, but I've heard rumors that his mom disagrees with his chosen method of protest. I guess that could bring some negative consequences.

Kaepernak's an entitled pussy, trying to become relevant in some way because the avenue that was open to him before is no longer available. His "ballroom days" are over.

Michael

I am sure you know that he was adopted.

I do realize that and I believe the reference was to his adoptive mother (although I can't be sure because I still haven't found a legit source).

Seems to me like the arrogant, entitled, cry-baby cowards are all the poor butthurt old white guys who don't like the fact that this is being brought out into the national spotlight by that uppity negro.

Stef I seldom disagree with you but I think you are wrong here. These are tough times and thousands of American men and women have died defending the same flag he is disrespecting. Many of these were African Americans and the vast majority were not racist or practicing discrimination against anyone.

I think there is a good chance he did not think this through and I also think he meant well… but to me and millions of others he was wrong and when his mistake was pointed out he should have apologized and used his notoriety to protest in a different way. By doing that he would have had real impact.

I don’t think it is fair to say those that oppose his demonstration are racists. It seems now in America if any act by any African American is criticized it MUST be because of racism and not just because they are not agreed with.

Those thousands of American men and women died to protect his right to stand up and protest injustice. I don't believe he's disrespecting the flag by exercising that right.

I don't think they're all necessarily racist either, but they do appear to be arrogant, entitled, cry-baby cowards.

kdsub -> RE: Arrogant, Entitled, Cry-Baby, and Coward (9/16/2016 11:38:03 AM)

Oh I agree he has the right... he may not respect the flag... I don't respect him... I don't think he is racists...neither am I just because i think he is wrong.

If this makes me arrogant, not the first time I've been called that, entitled and a cry-baby...then I'm sorry to hear you feel that way. But let me say I respect everyone's right to an opinion but I'll keep my right to disagree with it... now pardon me I need a Kleenex.

I don't respect or disrespect him. I don't know him nearly well enough to make that call. I do, however, respect that he did what he felt he had to, even with all the possible ramifications.

kdsub -> RE: Arrogant, Entitled, Cry-Baby, and Coward (9/16/2016 11:54:36 AM)

I can agree with you about respecting someone that is standing up for their convictions...but to me that does not make what they say or do right. I certainly can understand Daddysatyr's anger and disdain... he and his family has made a terrible sacrifice for that flag in loss of a love one...as have I. Our anger, perhaps not really justified by this action, rises up with little control and I hope understood.

I can't help but wonder if some of the more vocal of Kaepernick's detractors care even a fraction as much for the disrespect shown to the flag on a daily basis by the people who wear it on their uniforms while committing atrocities against members of the black community. Can't say I've heard a single peep along those lines.

That is another discussion...with merit

Yes, I saw that and it was his adoptive mother.

So only cop haters can say anything?

Nope, welfare patients are all over this thread, such as yourself.

Maybe you can tell me where the streets are that the police death squads are stacking the bodies of their victims.

That is the reason given for the protest.
I would like for someone who supports his claims to tell me where those bodies are being stacked.
If someone knows where it is, that would sure help get converts to your way of thinking.

stef -> RE: Arrogant, Entitled, Cry-Baby, and Coward (9/16/2016 3:43:50 PM)

The angry white men who are most up in arms about this, will never be "converts" to anyone's way of thinking other than their own, and you know this.

Wrong, I want him to back up his claims.
So far all I have seen is hyperbole, unsupported by facts.

stef -> RE: Arrogant, Entitled, Cry-Baby, and Coward (9/16/2016 4:16:24 PM)

You seem to have a hard on for the phrase "bodies stacked in the streets "but what he really said was "there are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder".

If you're honestly disputing any of what he actually said, then you're watching very selective newscasts or you're seriously deluding yourself.

Who got away with murder?
The cop in the Gardner case got away with involuntary manslaughter, why?
Because the prosecutor overcharged and went for murder.
A miscarrage of justice because the prosecutor was on a crusade to get cops and blew it.
In the Freddy Gray case they could have gotten negligent homocide against the driver, and maybe against the guy to straped him in. Again gross overcharging and prosecutorial misconduct made such a mess of the case that they couldn't have convicted Dracula.
Cops get away with more because crusaders try to get them with ridiculous chargeing levels and it keeps them from getting anything.
Maybe you should be mad at the crusaders who agree with you for so grossly overplaying their hand that the cops walk.
As for the cops commiting atrocities against blacks every day you have to be kidding.
You have clearly bought into this to the extent that any claim is justified to you.
Are you aware that 36% of violent crime is committed by blacks and that 52% of murders are.
This compared to the fact that 30% of people shot by the police are black, if cops were targeting black people wouldn't the the % of people being shot exceed the % of crimes being shot by cops, just stands to reason.
I want bad cops put away as much as anyone, but this garbbage that if a cop shoots a black person it is automatically murder is just stupid.

That's probably why nobody here is making such asinine claims. Nobody but you, that is.

You need to give the strawmen a rest if you want to be taken seriously.
