Science is not democratic, and it is always the ones who think outside the box who come up with the real innovations. And about the vaccine ? Well most drugs today are created just because the patent expired on the old one. Same with engineering. you can buy two TVs of the same with sequential serial numbers and the odds are not that bad that not one fucking part from one will fit the other. They make more money that way. Cars have been "improved" so much you can't fix them without a million dollar facility.
I believe, really, that real science is dead, or on its death bed.

The problem T8r is that most of science is no longer engaged...for pure science. In Einstein's time, the Germans thought science was to win wars. Medical science was to produce a pill, not just find ways to heal or truly cure. Edison thought science was to improve consumer life, and that's where we are today and probably since WWII.
Most real scientific research today and for 40-50 years, is funded by govt. without which, we wouldn't have even 1/2 and likely a lot less of the shit we have today. Much of what we have electronically today was NASA or DARPA and medically...NIH.
SO yes, real private scientific research is on its death bed unless it's the new phone or video something or consumer driven. Even computers and for business is volume or transactional based.
Software is volume or cyber security or adding hardware, speed and volume ZFS based now. (Zettabyte File System) Theoretical physics seems as if it is all settled and got that far only because...we were curious. We seem to be curious no more.

Look at burzinskis cancer cure.
They the fucking fda brought him up on charges and threw him in jail when he was the only one with a cure for brain stem miosys, (did I say that right, been a while since I looked at it), anyway brain cancer, and it got so bad that congress ended up getting involved.
He had like 10 patents, and if that is not bad enough, the fda after throwing him in jail stole his patents which are now under the fda.
The problem is that burzinski did not use any gubblmint funding or any of the schools so they cannot claim an interest in it, which puts it solely outside their jurisdiction to tax and regulate.
So they had an insider patent the same thing and assign the patents over to the fda! This was all done while he was in jail.
Not to mention the massive champagne to discredit all his work, and restricting him to operating in texas alone.
Its all about protecting the fraud and investors in bandaid come back tomorrow medicine.
Oh and then they tell everyone this is the land of the free! Yep the mob is everywhere.
