ORIGINAL: jlf1961 I have often said that humans just enjoy killing each other, going so far as to say it is genetic. Guess what people? Science has proven me correct. quote:
As a species, humans have inherited very violent traits, including the capacity to kill each other, according to a new study from the University of Granada in Spain published in the journal Nature. Researchers studied murder rates of more than one thousand mammal species and found out that closely related species show similar tendencies. Humans are “particularly violent” thanks to our evolutionary tree. The average murder rate for mammals is of three killings per every 1,000 deaths. Meanwhile, the average murder rate for early humans and the closer primates in the evolutionary tree was of twenty killings per every 1,000 deaths. Source Of course, there is a famous line from a highly popular movie I also like, which pretty much sums up humanity as well. quote:
I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Agent Smith, The Matrix (1999) So we got cops in the US killing unarmed african american males, Islamic terrorist killing everyone, not to mention god knows how many other ideological terrorist groups, street gangs, countries, and individuals around the planet. Then you have scientists that, after coming up with nuclear weapons, decided that since those would kill everyone, have come up with bigger and more efficient conventional bombs that can be guided into your office. We have developed a gun that will not actually fire the bullet until the computer has calculated the absolute perfect shot so you cant miss. And while we are hell bent killing each other, we come up with brilliant ideas like tearing down a forest to put up a shopping mall, got a toxic substance to get rid of, dump it somewhere. But of course, at the rate humanity is running headlong into oblivion, it wont matter much in the next 200 years, because the odds are that there wont be enough humans left to do squat. I don't have a problem with what you presented and don't lament it. I've always accepted it and have always been confused by people that have bumper stickers that say, "Can't we all just get along". Well, not really confused, I just didn't understand why those people pretended to a higher understanding since they certainly didn't understand their own genetic roots. I'd like to add a corollary. People packed into tight places, cities, tend to experience negative nervous energy that seems to aggravate this sort of thing. I believe that's been shown with lab rats and I believe it's true with people as well.
