But alignment with US or Soviet as a definition for "Third World" fell out of use in the late 1980s with the fizzling of the Cold War. It is now defined as "underdeveloped nations".

I don't see any references to that being a measure of "First World" or "Third World" though.

And Bhutan, the happiest country in the planet is third world too? That's Crazy! In Singapore, that's the country, we look up to.

This page gives the most comprehensive overview of the "three worlds view" of the Cold War era.
What isn't mentioned for political reasons is the propoganda that led to the current view of third world being underdeveloped impoverished etc. The propoganda was instigated by both American and Soviet sides to encourage countries and peoples to take sides. As the Cold War fizzled out, the lasting impression of "third world = backward" stuck around in English speaking spheres (you'll notice it's not a common term or concept in other languages any more)

Contrary to the OP Australia is a wonderful place to be a human, male female or otherwise. Not many of us Aussies are whingers like RM or deranged boors like A'ness . In fact racist whingers and whiners don't go down well here at all - such types are despised by most Aussies. Most people here also tend to avoid the RMs of this world like the plague, which might explain why that dynamic duo, RM & A'ness find the internet a slightly more welcoming place for their incessant whinging and whining. I note that A'ness has already realised that he's wasting his time trying to impose his (ahem) unique 'worldview' on us Aussies and has shifted his fat ass and associated bulk to the US. Good riddance. Don't feel any need to hurry back.

If there are any countries out there that might want to take the other half of the dynamic duo, I willing to start a crowdfund to buy RM a one way ticket anywhere - and the further away the better. Perhaps somewhere he can express that masculinity he feels is so oppressed here ... Saudi Arabia springs to mind as the ideal macho society to suit his needs.

Koalas like to be left alone to chew their fav eucalyptus leaves. If I was an animal I suppose I wouldn't like well meaning humans pawing me all the time either.

But far more important is crowdfunding RM off on a one way permanent trip to Saudi Arabia, the land where women can't even get driving licences let alone vote or participate in life outside the domestic home, which must be the nearest thing on the planet to the kind of society that RM craves. There may be a small issue around religion but I am sure once he enjoys the benefits of male supremacy for a while, he will make his peace with it, perhaps even convert ..... who knows what a looney will choose?
