Parhaps Trump was right, the elections are rigged. Al Gore won more votes than George Bush and Hillary Clinton won more votes in the Popular Votes process. The Popular Vote represents the true winner. One person, one vote. Whoever gets the most votes, wins. Its that simple. The current system does need an overhaul. Do away with the Electoral College process and actually make elections fair and square.

Focus on the phrase, "united states". Meditate on it. Break it down: "united" + "states". The popular vote in each of the states determines who wins that state's Electors. Why would you think it shouldn't?

I believe that when I went to bed last night Trump lead the cumulative popular vote in all closed elections except California.

If Hillary lost the popular vote and won the electoral vote, her supporters would be fine with it. You can’t protest a system only when you lose.

There are some that hold to the original pact and allocate the electors. Not many. couple of states.

You realize that Ike would have been president till 64 with all the recount that woul have follwed.
And Clinton would have stated on till 2004 since the recounts and challenges.

In a state that is solidly red, or a state that is solidly blue, if you belong to the other party your vote is never counted under the present electoral system. But the idea of one person, one vote doesn't really work either. Under that system a few of the largest cities around the country would control the vote. More rural places would have very little say.

All this electoral college shit is because of the nature of the country.. States used to be considered damnear countries in the past so that is how it is set up. In fact there was a tie when you did not vote for senators, your state legislature would appoint them. You did however vote directly for members of the house.

There have been calls for direct voting for the President but that is easier said than done.

It's interesting now that, 2 republican candidates have lost popular and won electoral.

But electoral in this race was not even close. Trump won by a respectable margin!

I gotta go with , due to the differing cultures and beliefs of all the different states in the US.

Popular vote will not be fair for that country. Blue states will keep winning.

Personally, I think that's the way is should be. The People's house is the House of Representative. The Senate is the States' house. The way it is now deprives our state governments of representation in Congress. If I recall correctly, there were issues with Governors appointing crony Senators. A reasonable objection. Better then to have them elected by the state legislature; or maybe having one appointed and one elected would strike a fairer balance. But leaving the State governments with no representation at all was a step too far in my opinion.

This is speculation, but I agree with the second part.
The real problem is the two party system.

People deserve better choices that the conniving neoliberal vs. the boorish fascist.

There is zero two party system.

The problem is, nobody bothers voting other parties.

Through democracy, it ends up the people always choosing the same old same old two parties.

They could have voted for anybody.
