No just want to make sure you understood that the land was not just 'empty space' but property that people paid taxes on.

When presented with data, or a phrase like "cities" versus "rural," I'm always curious to see what that would actually look like. We are highly visually-oriented creatures and we process visual information much more rapidly than pages full of numbers. I think it's interesting how a graphic can capture and present a ton of dry numerical data in an impactful way.

Fair enough. Thanks for clarifying.

While K clarified his intentions, I'm not sure that the graphic helpfully "clarifies" the red-blue divisions in the US as ThatDizzyChick has pointed out in post#13.

It seems to me that the word "simplifies" would be far more accurate. The actual picture is far more complex than this graphic is capable of conveying.

Looking at Clintons America, most of that is in areas that will be underwater with climate change.. no wonder Trump & the Rs deny climate change, they want as many Democrat voters as possible to drown as the seas rise!..

Now i understand why they want a free college education for everyone.

Not sure whom you are referring to as "they," but the argument and the empirical evidence to support it for free or lowest-cost college education is partly based on the economics notion of 'human capital,' the value of which is in direct proportion to education in terms of both quality and quantity. If you want your country to compete in the world, education is the most fundamental requirement. Educational infrastructure is what ultimately determines the quality of the physical, legal, financial, etc. infrastructure on which all businesses are dependent, not to mention quality of management and all other employees.

I think it's safe to say that quality of business management in the US has not seen anything like a high point for some years now.

I went to the link and grabbed the two maps. I was going to do a blue/red overlay thing.

Surprise! Surprise! The "Hillary" map was a bigger graphic than the "Trump" map. Therefore, the differing areas didn't line up.

Yeah. Color me shocked.

Urban voted Clinton, rural voted Trump.
This isn't such a surprise... major cities always tend to lean left.

Yeah, I apologize. I shouldn't have said it was a surprise. Oh wait, I didn't.

What about it did you find interesting?

K.

You are actually quite right. Visual graphics has been very instrumental for centuries, starting with maps and I've always looked at political graphics that tend to confirm what the numbers have been for about 50-60 years with only slight changes in all of that time...just growing numbers.

the problem with those maps is that they are wrong, as there were Clinton voters in all the Trump areas and Trump voters in all the Clinton areas. The split is artificial, being based on the winning vote (which was not always the majority vote) by county, and therefore ignores all the minority voters.
The ideological divide is not as solidly geographical as that map suggests.

In general terms I disagree and as reflected by the graphics comparing who and where Obama voters switched to Trump. It was almost all...in the large cities. (almost)

Just unimportant people since they live in "fly-over country" and vote republican. Of little use or value to anyone (on the left).

Actually, according to Al Gore it is already underwater. He has been predicting that in 20 years the Washington Monument since 1988.

Some of them, but you also have the Bundy boys and those sort of nutsuckers. So now we got at least three Americas.

FR, it's too bad the divide is so weird. Where the ones near the sea are liberals and the ones in the middle are republicans.

Otherwise, if it's a nice, Whole East is Blue and Whole West is Red, then ya can happily divorce each other and be two different nations.

Still unproven until you can show exactly what goes into those numbers. You can't because they do not publish them because they L Y I N G.

Go look at federal dollars in v federal dollars out. Been proven a million times over the many years.

Look at a county: Owsley, KY its worth a laugh a minute. A decendant of the founder (one Mr. Ousley) is a democratic state senator in another state (DUH)

I found a better map online - but it would appear no media outlets favour it..it encopasses te lerta collge vote s ytem by stae..trubutionret for that map you showed my eyeballs ;)

I always thought red was the colour of democrats and russians and the labour party

Yes... what's your point?
Do you think that having more land entitles them to more votes?
No, it means those people count for something despite what many urban dwellers would like to believe. That belief is one reason why a proposition that before you can put something on the ballot to change the state Constitution, you must go out to the rural area and get something like at least 50% of your signatures from all those rural areas in Colorado.

Sorry, I just don't see how that detail (the location of supposed Obama voters who switched to Trump), in any way impacts what I said.

Note I said "supposed" above, because there is no real way to know who voted for who, except in broad demographic terms, and given that nearly half of the electorate do not vote in any given election, even that cannot be stated with any sort of certainty as a large number of the voters for this election may have been non-voters in previous elections, and a large number of those who voted in previous elections may not have voted in this election.
