Loneliness in a world with billions of people...

It's so easy to be around people and have friends, lots of friends, lots of activities, lots of things to do and never be physically alone again! That's the easiest part especially in today's internet era. Just pick up a hobby and find groups of people into them.

The most difficult thing is finding mental connection I think. And that is where the loneliness come from. When you don't feel a mental connection with anybody around you.

I agree. Thank God for my mom, my 2 daughters... the 4 of us are all very close and connected. I don't know what i would do without them. And now i have Master. Other than that, despite all the people i've met and friends i've had, etc... i've never felt that 'Soulmate' connection with anyone else. I thought of that just the other day... in order to have deep, meaningful relationships, i've had to give birth to them.

Do people of today still yearn to live till over 100 years old?
To what putative purpose?

Regurgitive reminiscence? Needless nostalgia? Penchant for pining away while on pension? Remembrance and regrets? Involuntary indulgence in past indiscretions?

Is there any remediation but rudimentary release by rigor mortis for my innate inclination to unabated alliterative excess?

But to answer; heck, I don't know. I could die tomorrow and not be much troubled by it. I know some who are 30-40 years older than where I am now, and it gives me pause, no question. I have no kids, so there's a non-consideration.

I'm easily bored as it is, so not anticipating I'd be the happy camper "everyday is sunshine!" type at 95-105 even if in reasonably decent health.
Reflections
Old age aint for sissies, I can tell you, but it is lovely to feel the sun and the wind, and to talk with friends and family. Ailments are impossible to avoid but loneliness and and boredom must be resisted. They are major enemies to a good quality of life.

Natural or congenital inclination to preternatural boredom is not easily or conveniently resisted, any more than a physical condition. I'm actually okay with surviving another week or another 30 years largely because I am used to it and also because I've finally gotten to such situation as to never have to deal with academia ever again in my life. That was quite a harsh experience, tripping over myself constantly in that endeavor and eventually prolonging the torture which only served to make the torture greater at the end of it. The initial lifting of spirits in being relieved of that departure has been somewhat counteracted by realization of my own error in not getting through it earlier, and firsthand experience of academia's overt hostility to anything resembling original thought. An army of post-docs who've never done a productive thing in their life and never will as long as the grants hold out is what drives that bus.

But I also know that how I feel now and how I feel 2 years or 10 years from now are likely different things, if going by experience. So it's a bit silly to even say anything about being 100 years old until one gets to at least 88-92 years to begin with.

The only reason I would want to live past 100 years old, is I remember, when I was just a wee skad, thinking how cool it would be to live to see the tricentennial of this country.

It's not that appealing to me, anymore. Simple things in life have become arduous. Sure, Puppy helps, but I'm just not feeling it, anymore.

When God is ready for me, I'm ready for Him to call me home.

There's a show on A&E network that I really enjoy called: Inside The Actors' Studio. James Lipton is the host. he always asks a ten question, questionnaire, at the end of the show, originally developed by Marcel Proust.

The last question is: "If there's a heaven, what would you like God to say to you, when you arrive?"

I'd like my son to be standing next to God and I'd like God (all three of Him) to say: "Welcome home, son. We're proud of you."
